That's solid advice about the Sangean radios, those things are tanks. The U4 especially punches way above its weight for the price Just wanted to add that some of the newer Anker Soundcore speakers actually have decent build quality if OP wants something more portable, but yeah you're spot on about most combo units being hot garbage. The separate transmitter route is definitely the move for the earbud situation

Does a Bluetooth Speaker With AM/FM and Earbud Connectivity Exist?
Most combo speakers try to shove the radio, amp, and Bluetooth into one bargain-bin board, which is why they die right after the return window closes. If you want something that survives actual use, look for a radio with a real tuner instead of one of those digital scan chips that wander off frequency the moment the house gets warm. Get something with a battery you can actually replace. The thin pouch cells they glue inside the fashion speakers puff up like a balloon and take the whole thing with them. Physical knobs and switches matter. Membrane buttons crack, let moisture in, and then the whole thing starts acting like it's haunted. And about the earbud thing: speakers almost never rebroadcast Bluetooth. You'd want a simple 3.5 mm output and a tiny Bluetooth transmitter if she insists on wireless earbuds. Sangean makes radios that don't fall apart for sport. The PR-D18 or the U4, plus a cheap transmitter, will work better than any "all in one" box with fake bass ports.

Don't they already? I went looking for one b/c, for whatever reason, all of a sudden "Hey Siri play NPR" stopped working right in our kitchen, so I figured it was my excuse to buy a nice radio. The only Tivolis I could see were eat up with shit i didn't want, like Bluetooth or USB connections I have no use for -- but Sangean makes a similar one that's *just* radio, so that's what we have.
