$2K Amazon Budget—Help Me Turn Digital Money Into Sawdust
Skil worm drive circular saw. Festool sander with their portable dust collection unit. If you wanted to spend a chunk of that at once I’d look into a Sawstop table saw.

$2K Amazon Budget—Help Me Turn Digital Money Into Sawdust
Woodworking like fine furniture or like building sheds. Bird houses. Simple tables ? 2k ain't much... id get a sawstop jobsite. Sliding 10 inch miter saw Variable speed impact Drill And some sort of matching orbital. Then over time. Dust extractor...trust me.. Track saw And various sanders. Now I sold all my stuff... but I had a lot of festool. And its amazing gear. That being said.

My hot take on Buy It For Life
My version of this was to buy used tools, and rebuild/refurbish them. I learned how my machines work and know how to fix them. Most of my machines and hand tools are older than I am, with the exception of my table saw (Sawstop, on the wife's insistence) and my CNC machine (hard to find one from the 1950's.) Used tools can be bought for less than Harbor Freight prices, and typically are BIFL quality.

Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?
While tools like that are expensive, you don’t always need them to build a table. Yes, sawstop table saws are super nice and handy but you can also get the same work done with a circular saw

Buy Once Cry Once items?
Sawstop is rare in that if it ends up not being BIFL, it means you actually got more value out of it than normal.

Has everything we buy reduced in quality over time? Has anything increased in quality or stayed high quality and durable?
you can still get excellent quality woodworking tools - Lie Nielsen, Pfeil, Veritas, Narex, Kirschen/Two Cherries, DMT DiaSharp. Even some of the Wood River stuff is pretty good. Sawstop stuff is also amazing, and most modern power tools are surprisingly excellent, even the battery powered stuff.
