  Larson door handles have a one year warranty

  I moved into my house and one of the Schlage doorknobs wasn’t working right. This doorknob was almost certainly original to the house so 20+ years old I emailed Schlage to ask if there was anything they recommended for me to fix it. They said it couldn’t be fixed and they would mail a new one that day. I didn’t even buy this knob and they still sent me a new one!

  I think we’re talking past each other a bit. You’re comparing Larson’s warranty to consumer products in general. I’m comparing Larson specifically to other door handle manufacturers. In that category, a one-year warranty is an outlier. Emtek, Baldwin, Schlage, and Kwikset all offer lifetime or limited-lifetime warranties on mechanical door hardware. So yes—Larson meets the minimum standard most consumer products have, but compared to its direct peers in door hardware, it falls short, which makes sense given what recently happened to me.

  Best Quality of life gift ideas under $150

  The big box stores have a lot of good options such as Schlage. Browse by material of construction. For historical accuracy, House of Antique Hardware and Nostalgic Warehouse are great, though pricey. Good to check on Marketplace or EBay for those.

  I’ve had great warranty experiences with Hunter Douglas, Kohler/Kallista, Schlage, All-Clad, Wusthof, Harbor Freight Icon tools, and Concept 2.

  Kohler, Schlage , Anderson windows, NorthFace…those are just the top ones that come to mind at this moment. All have amazing support Not all lifetime but decades long like Andersen.

  Do smart home items really work in long term?

  It will seem easy to just jump on Amazon and buy any smart product be beware of a lot of cheap devices. Think about essential items that you can make smart and look for quality brands that have a reputation. Also a good rule of thumb is to make a smart home to will work as a dumb home too, e.g. what happens when your internet is down or when someone doesn't have their phone/app? Examples: -Smart bulbs. You can get some cheap smart bulbs that will likely be a pain to use and might die in a year or two. Or you can get something like HUE from a company that has a track record of quality items. It'll be much more expensive but worth it. -Light/wall switches. Not everything needs a smart bulb. In fact, I'd say most people would prefer a smart light switch that works exactly like a traditional one, but with the option to just turn on and off a light. I spent an extra $20-30 a light to have color bulbs in my kitchen. Ask me how many times I've actually used a color feature? Maybe 5 times when I just installed them. Most of the time I am just adjusting the brightness or turning them off and on. -Home appliances: if it's a traditional appliance made smart, id avoid them. Your washer doesn't need to connect to the internet. Just wait till you cant wash your clothes because your washer is in the middle of an update. Only thing id actually recommend is a robot vacuum. Roborock is my pick. -Home security: cameras, smart locks. Again, don't just go to Amazon and pick the first one. There are companies that have been making locks for years such as Schlage that offer smart devices now. Their priority is a quality lock that works like a normal lock with their secondary goal being to make it smart. Brands I recommend: Philips hue, Inovelli, Lutron, Schlage, Roborock, Reolink.

  Do smart home items really work in long term?

  I am on my second Ring doorbell camera and Ring Spotlight camera. The doorbell camera stopped working after 5 years and it was hardwired. The spotlight had issues with the led spot lights went bad and would just constantly flicker and the kicker is that you can’t replace the spot lights which is BS because they could easily be swapped out but they make you replace the entire spotlight. If I have more problems with the latest versions I will go to another brand. I have Wemo smart plugs and they have been good for 8 years now and some other cheap no name smart plugs that I only use between Halloween and Christmas for lights on 11 windows for lighting and they work every year and also 8 years old. The only issues is the Wemo sometimes need to be rebooted and the cheap plugs sometimes don’t turn on or off, but the next cycle work fine. I have 7 echo dots all different versions from cheap pucks to large round ones with good bass. I never have had any issues I have the Schlage door lock and don’t have any issues. I have smart washer and dryer from Samsung and their app is shit and never use it. We are on our 3rd robot vacuum and have been 3 different brands. So ymmv on smart items.
