  Help with Leather Jacket Economics?

  your math makes sense, but full grain leather jackets can easily last 8+ years with minimal care - they often last decades. the textile parts are the weak point though, especially elastic cuffs/waist. those might wear out in 5-7 years depending on use. the buffalo jackson ones you linked look decent. for that price, you could also check schott nyc or vanson - they're known for lasting forever. minimal care is fine: condition with leather cream once a year, store on a wide hanger, don't get it soaked. the leather will outlast the textiles, but you can often get those replaced by a tailor.

  Why is it so hard to find well-made clothes that aren't insanely priced?

  I really like Schott NYC if you are looking for a rugged/urbany style, think less posh Pendleton. Their flannels clean great in regular hot machine wash/dry rack, the jackets are well made and if you catch a season end sale you can go ham on some of their more expensive items. I have some of their sweaters too that I love too which I take care of at the dry cleaners. If you live near a store definitely visit to try things on as their fits per style can be wildy different from slim to big and boxy (unfortunately) but I think they might have a generous return policy if you are adventurous

  What used to be buy it for life but is now more questionable?
