Looking for an office chair, but can't spend a $1k+ on a Herman Miller. Are there any cheaper alternatives I can get online?
I WFH and am 2 years into a Secret Lab Titan Evo XL. Zero regrets.

I came here to recommend exactly the same chair. They have a bunch of colors that can be more or less subtle as you like, but they're great chairs and hold up super well to long-term sitting. Super adjustable all over, plus they recline to like 120 degrees which is just straight up decadent (and shows their overall stability). I got the omega version back in 2020 or so; I think they only do the Titan model now but I've got a bunch of friends with it and it sounds from them like SL both upgraded the design and simplified the range since I bought mine. Highly recommend them.

We bought two Secret Lab chairs in April 2020 and have worked from home 100% since then. At the time they felt like more of a splurge as we thought we would be home for only a few more months…. Little did we know! The chairs are still like new though. I’m not a huge fan of the gamer look but they are firm and offer great support for my bad back!

What brands/products do you AVOID because of their poor longevity?
Yeah secret lab seem to be one gaming chair that is ok. I had a "premium" DX racer that just fell apart. My friends gaming chair just fell apart... Now I have a herman miller x logitech that is a few years old now and still great.

A chair breaking down in 5 years is not the selling point you seem to think it is. I have two office chairs that are each 30+ years old. Niether of them are coming apart and they both together were probably cheaper than the secret labs chair.

I guess I lucked out with my Secret Lab chair. It's been great. Maybe I have one before they got shitty; it's about 4 years old I think.

Yeah to my surprise, the Secret Lab chair I bought years ago used is still in great shape, now on its third owner. I was dubious about it but bought it because my neighbor was moving and sold it to me super cheap. It was amazing, but he had the largest size and I’m 5 feet tall and <100 lb, so I ended up giving it to my brother after a few years. It’s still in flawless shape except some minor scratches from his cats.

I've had a secret lab chair that I find to be quite comfortable and has held up as well as I could expect from any foam and upholstery. Is it perfect? No, some of the fabric is breaking down and I bought a cheap piece of foam to add under the seat when the foam started to flatten, but I'm totally satisfied with it and will likely buy another one when this one eventually gives up the first For context I'm 6'3, 220 lbs, I've owned it since early 2020, and I sit on it between 40 and 60 hours a week since I both work and game on it (I know I shouldn't sit that much but it is what it is)

Should I buy a new tv or a new chair first
I’d go with the **chair first**. Comfort affects everything — gaming, watching, even how long you can sit without feeling sore. A good chair like the SecretLab will last years if you treat it well, while TVs keep getting cheaper and better every year. Once you upgrade the chair, you’ll enjoy your current TV more anyway.

Chair. 100%. You can live with 1080p, but not with your spine screaming at you every hour

Office chair for 250+ lbs used for 12+ hours a day
$300 or lower is the problem here. The cheapest thing you should be looking at is a secretlab titan xl or a used steelcase leap.

Desk/office chair for big guy
I have the SecretLab Titan Evo XL. Its rated for 395lbs (not sure if there are others rated higher, but I can't imagine by much). I am ROUGH on it, and a pretty big guy. I have had it for several years, and it is basically in new condition.

PSA: Secretlab chairs are overpriced bullshit
My Secret Lab chair (going on 3 years) is the only reason I don't experience intense backpain anymore when sitting all day. I have a lower back injury, and I have to do stretches once every 2 hours, and exercise twice per day to keep my core muscles strong. No other chair has been able to work this well for me. That sucks that it didn't work out for you. I hope you can find something good. Just wanted to share my experience since it's been quite literally life changing. The chair is still in pristine condition too, but it is worth noting that I sit all fucked up sometimes and move around constantly. I am small and very limber, and often nestle myself in the chair with a blanket. I alternate evenly between that and sitting upright and in proper form.

PSA: Secretlab chairs are overpriced bullshit
I found a Titan XL on marketplace for $60 a while ago, dropped $40 to rent a steam cleaner and remove all the gamer sweat in it and it’s been great ever since. Chairs are super subjective so it’s goofy to immediately shit all over it because it didn’t fit your body. Maybe with your budget you can find a used office chair because the higher end ones are cracking $1k easily. Maybe try before you buy next time too.

PSA: Secretlab chairs are overpriced bullshit
Chairs are very personal. Not every body is the same, and some people will fit some chairs better than others. As far as gaming chairs go: SecretLab is at the top, they even have the EU certifications for ergonomic chairs. Some people also swear by Herman Miller Aeron chairs, those are not comfy for me at all, and after a day of working I'm kinda sore. It's not a quality thing, it's a preference thing

That’s exactly it. The plastic rigidity is just not comfortable to me, at all. It gave me back problems because of it wanting me to sit in a way that wasn’t comfy for me. The Titan is great

PSA: Secretlab chairs are overpriced bullshit
I was one of the ones that bought one of these years ago after sitting on a cheap wooden desk chair all my life. I really disagree, genuinely. My chair is still in perfect nick after uhh… 5 years? I got the Secretlab Titan XL for context. I’ve got Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and this chair is so massive I can comfortably cross my legs in it, put my knees up, sit like an idiot, and honestly be perfectly comfy. You can rock the thing backward too, adjust the tilt and what have you. I sort of angle it like 10 or 15 degrees backwards so I sort of naturally slide slightly back rather than forwards, and it’s amazing for my back tbh. The only adjustment I’ve done to the thing is laying down a thin blanket on the bottom seat to protect it just in case, cause I got the cookies and cream finish, and it’s obviously really easy to stain grey fabric. Comfy as fuck for what it is. I’m not expecting it to last forever.

I got the the titan when it came out in 2017 for $388 and it's the best chair I've had. I'm a big boy and I would usually go through a chair in two years. Only thing thats work out was an arm rest I found a cheap replacement for on Amazon. I also despise the Hermann miller chairs we use at work.

PSA: Secretlab chairs are overpriced bullshit
Had mine for years now with no problems. They are definitely better than pretty much any gaming chair but yeah, with the recent price increases it's more worthwhile to get a refurbished aeron, for reference I paid £369 for my titan 4 years ago and at the time I would consider it the best chair for the price. Shows absolutely no signs of wear so far.

What's are home office purchases you've made that have more than paid for themselves?
I got a Secretlab chair to replace the crappy gaming chair that was falling apart. It’s worked out great. Subsequently replaced the IKEA desk with a Secretlab motorized desk so I can work standing most of the day. That too has worked well. A wide screen monitor with two smaller monitors on either side has helped too.

I had this happen to me earlier this year. Bought in 2020. I didn't have a receipt for my purchase. But Secretlab sent me a full replacement base without proof of purchase and without giving me a hard time. I was impressed with the customer service and overall I still really like my chair.

Surprising to hear, that sucks. I've had a Titan XL 5 for years and only yesterday have I ordered new foam for the armrests, everything else is perfect. I work from home so I'm in that thing 8+ hours a day at least. My wife got one last year and while obviously fresher, no issues with that either!

I have nothing but good things to say about my SL chair. If anything it was slightly more expensive then it warrants, and the arm rests have some wear from normal use. Ive had this chair for ~5 years and i have no regrets.

Mines been better and more comfortable than the anthrose, embody and leap plus. I’ve tried the 3 top rated $2000 chairs and they didn’t work for me like my SL does. While they excel in certain areas where they lack is massive but the SL is slightly above average on all areas. Have had mine for 7+ years no issue.

Yep my son is one of those people, he has had his for 6-7 years and not only has had good luck with it, but also had some warranty replacements right before 5 years with no hassle whatsoever. He is in that chair ALL THE TIME and he is a pretty big guy (6'4", 350#). He says it's still comfortable, which seems pretty amazing to me. Maybe the Titans are built better?

I know you said you’ve owned a gaming chair but was it a secret lab? If not I’d look into them I have one and my boyfriend as well, amazing for long hours of sitting, has lumbar support and all kinds of adjustments and it’s definitely less than $1000 but still pricey.

I’ve had my Secretlab chair since they released. Seven years or so? It is still in perfect condition. It’s so comfortable and supportive, I use it to game and to work from home full time. I sing its praises. The XL in their Titan line is recommended for 5’11”-6’9” and 175-395lbs.

You should be going after him for nothing less than a Secret Lab Titan. If he won't go for it, small claims court doesn't require a lawyer and works for anything under 5000$. I have a secret lab. That's a 500$+ chair. I'm not saying to go all the way to small claims court but the threat of it usually works in itself

Office/Computer chair?
For under $1000, check out Secretlab Titan EVO 2022 (great for heavier guys, super comfy for long gaming sessions) or Steelcase Series 1 (solid ergonomics, durable). If you want more cushion like a La-Z-Boy, try Serta’s Big & Tall Executive chair. All have swivel and wheels. Test a few if you can!
