  Do you guys think this wireless vacuum has BIFL potential?

  I’ve cleaned houses full time for 5 years. I’ve never encountered a wireless vacuum that had even close to the suction power of a corded vacuum. I swear I’ve tried most brands and models at this point. Shark vacuums are my favorite, and you can buy most parts online to replace anything that breaks.

  Little luxuries or upgrades that you made this year that makes your everyday better?

  Not the original commenter, but I had a cheap no name one and two sharks. Those three each lived about 18 months. I do use them heavily (at least 3x a week) but love them so much. I wouldn’t pay more than $300 for one that vacuums and mops with a station that cleans it. But that seems to be the sweet spot for me. Right now I have a shark and a yeedi. The yeedi app often stops working but the cleaning itself is fine.

  Best home air purifier brand(s)?

  Really like our Shark Never Change. The big hepa filter lasts multiple years due to the washable pre-filters. The thing just sits on “auto” 24/7 and has gotten us through 2 wildfire seasons with great results.

  I don't know, I recently got a Miele to replace the Shark that I bought in 2014. There was nothing wrong with it, really. Rubber on the hand grip was starting to degrade, I guess. I replaced the cord once. But it worked great. Emptying the cyclone canister thing was easy. It was easy to grab and clean up messes. But it was just too small; we bought it when we lived in a little 2-br condo, and now...it was like mowing an estate lawn with a 16" black-and-decker push mower. But suffice it to say that I got my money's worth out of the thing. I like the Miele, of course, but I'll admit that it's a whole thing to get out and carry/drag across the house. So now I also have a cordless dust buster and a robot vac (the latter of which I highly recommend). But man, when I'm actually using that Miele cannister, it is indeed a pleasure. But I could have bought 50 years worth of Shark stick vacs for what I spent on that thing, so it's certainly luxury.

  We’ve got a Shark that works great on our hardwood floors. We have a Great Pyrenees, and literally every single day there are piles of fur swirling in every corner of the house. The Shark does a great job getting everywhere except behind doors. Plus it gets under the bed which I can’t get to without tossing mattresses. It runs a solid 4+ hours every day though, but the kids only have to empty the dustbin once a day, and once every 3-4 days I have to detangle brush.

  I have a Dyson and a shark. I change out the filters and do a full cleaning of the vacuum every couple months. Maintenance matters. I just bought 6 pads and filters for my shark for $8. Makes a huge difference. I also have vacuflo central vac which uses a canister and vents to the outside. It is 25 years old and the suction is amazing.

  I bought a higher end shark made for pets and I adore that I can take apart and clean / replace basically every piece of it.  Had it for around seven years, use it at least once a week, and put it through hell. As long as I make sure to switch out the filters and unclog it from time to time, it still runs like new.  Really happy with it overall.

  How do you even find real product reviews anymore?

  Genuinely not a bot (lol), but I've had mine shark robo for 3 years and I still love it. I do use it for a small space, it takes awhile, and certainly not a replacement for a real sweep. But it's relieved a lot of my burden of sweeping animal hair every day.

  I have an older version of the [Shark Duo cordless](https://www.sharkninja.com/shark-powerdetect-cordless-stick-vacuum/IP1251.html) and it is outstanding for both carpet and hard floors. I've had it at least 5-6 years now. The Duo brush system requires cleaning fairly regularly but outside of that, awesome cordless vacuum.

  This Hoover Decade 80 from the Early/ Mid 1980's is Better than anything Hoover makes/sells today

  8 years for a vacuum is pretty good. I had a Shark that was pretty damn good, like 90-95% of a Dyson but at a fraction of the price. Some things just aren’t meant to be used for a really long time.

  I just upgraded from a cheap conair to a shark flexstyle pro and !!!!!!! My hair felt noticeably way smoother and softer compared to the conair, kinda like the feeling of your hair after getting a blowout. Granted, I could never do a typical blow out with separate brush/dryer very well so I bet you can achieve similar outcomes with conair. The airflow felt smoother but more powerful at the same time, & quieter!! This felt really worth it to me.

  I have a Shark steam mop that’s 10 years old and I still use it. I also have an O’cedar spin mop and a Hoover Floormate. I used to love the Floormate and it’s going strong after 12 years but it’s bulky and a pain to clean. It does an excellent job cleaning the floors though. I’m waiting for it to break so I can upgrade to a newer (slimmer) mop/vacuum

  What's the best BIFL item you own?

  At least half of my clothes are 10-20 years old and still in good condition. My work clothes go to the dry cleaners, but I have Old Navy tops and pants that are 10 years old, machine washed and dried, that are still in great shape. This year I’m going to buy a new ski jacket because the two I bought ~2000 are starting to look their age, but I certainly got my money’s worth out of them. My Kenmore canister vacuum from 2008 is still working like a champ, especially after I watched a YouTube video on how to clean it last year. Tbh, I only use it every couple of months now because the Shark stick vacuum is so much easier to use. The floor nozzle isn’t as convenient, but no matter which vacuum I use, I’m going to end up lying on my belly, using a swiffer duster to corral the dust and cat toys from underneath the furniture. If a robot vacuum could fit under it, I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

  Just got the [Shark NV352](https://x.com/DealHopperHQ/status/1952303389427016126) and I’m honestly impressed. Super lightweight and easy to move around. The suction is no joke – pulled up so much dust I didn’t even know was there. Love the Lift-Away feature for stairs and corners. Also really appreciate the HEPA filter since I have allergies. Overall, totally worth it for the price.

  I like the Shark wandvac self-empty system. I'm not sure if it's BIFL but the battery is replaceable and the self empty function means the suction doesn't have to work as hard bc it's always empty. And the self empty stand gives you a good place to keep it.

  Cords last longer. The thin plastic connectors are prone to damage. Be gentle if you want it to last longer. I had one like this from 2017, and the battery never lasted more than 30 min. It promised 2 hours. I got free Shark 25.2v duo clean that has been working great. It’s on year 5. I had to get a new battery but it’s solid.

  Shark Prodetect! Was like $200-$250. Fully sealed HEPA filter, removable battery, and self-cleaning brissels (amazing). 30ish minutes of run time depending on setting. Shark has a good warranty too. I went down the rabbit hole when picking one and have been very happy with it.

  Bifl is hard to find with a lot of modern vacuums, especially of the stick variety. I’ve been doing a lot of research on vacuums recently, as I have a shark rocket from about 4 years ago that still works, but doesn’t do the best with pet hair. If you are looking for something good with pet hair, and are committed to a stick vacuum, the shark stratos is one of the best currently available at the price point you listed. There is a corded and cordless model, but when it comes to bifl, I will always recommend corded over cordless. I am currently repairing a Dyson dc35 cordless, and the suction power is a fraction of what my inexpensive shark rocket has. I have used the Dyson V15 detect, and that is beautiful, but crazy expensive. Dysons are like luxury cars. They feel great, and the experience using them is excellent, but repairs are not great, and the quality of their parts are not congruent with the cost of the product. I will say, repairing stick vacuums can also be a little bit of a pain depending on your confidence in doing them.

  Stuff you will continue buying for life

  After trying dozens of different blades I run Shark Super Chromes in my 1958 Gillette Superspeed (BIFL and then some) Feather gets all the love, but they are too aggressive of a blade for my skin. I love the shave I get from the Sharks. (Look on Etsy if you are interested in a vintage Gillette safety razor. They can be had for much less than many of the “fancy” new safety razors and it’s true that they don’t make ‘em like they used to.)

  Looking for a quality hand vacuum

  I just purchased a Shark Rocket Pro DLX, it's corded (but I prefer that vs. a batter that goes into a landfill) with a great assortment of attachments. I absolutely like it so far for flexibility and ease of use. It's a little louder than my Miele, scared the hell out of the cats. But picked up dust and fur like a dream from flat surfaces, blinds, window ledges, and furniture. I haven't had it long enough for any downsides, but I will def. report back.

  I bought a Shark Navigator around 2013ish. It continues to outperform and out clean my very expensive Rainbow vacuum cleaner. I regularly(once every 6 months) clean or change all the filters. I’ve had to buy a new handle hose attachment once. That part is notorious for breaking but easy to find on eBay or Amazon. However, I purchased a new smaller Shark for the office and although it has great suction, the air blows out the front and upwards so I have to smell it and it’s a stupid design.

  I had a Rooma i3 until super recently (downsized and moved, it still works great). It's able to be repaired and cleaned regularly which is key to making sure it lasts a long time. Not sure if this applies to the robot vacuums but Sharks are easy to repair and have five year warranties.

  I didn’t like the Miele I bought. Something kept falling off of it the day it was delivered, and Customer Disservice was absolutely no help, so I returned it. (I don’t remember which part kept detaching, but it was ludicrous that a $900 machine was sold without any quality assurance.) Bought a corded Shark Stratos upright, and it is the best vacuum I’ve ever owned, in terms of performance.  For a quick, convenient, and small cleanup, I prefer a cordless vac.  But for heavy-duty, deep cleaning? That Shark is amazing.  The Shark takes a little getting used to, because the head rotates to get into nooks and crannies. Pushing it feels a little odd at first because of this, but the cleaning performance is outstanding. Especially if you are having to vacuum around way too much furniture and other floor-dwelling stuff.

  We just bought a new house! What are your BIFL items for new homeowners?

  Food grade diatomaceous earth, Borax, peppermint essential oil, small tarp, a few foil pans (water drip catchers as well as kitchen friendly), 30% vinegar (Home Depot) small Shark quick vacuum mop, squeegee to clean windows (forget anything cloth), sealable bins for pet food or bird seed etc, table lamps that dim with touch, recessed lights that have two settings: one normal one with a halo light around the unit - great for low light watching a movie and not expensive (Amazon), voltage meter, first aid kit, power washer (buy the highest psi you can afford), pets? Get the sticker for your windows letting ems know you have pets in the house, be still my heart solid cotton sheets from Italy or Portugal, vintage French linen towels - iykyk, get stemware you love, dessert spoons never hurt anyone and they’re great on the counter to sample the wonderful dishes you’re cooking, must we add cloth napkins or is it assumed? Splurge on upcycled furniture that you can tell was done by a talented person and you adore it. My goodness of course go out and look at local art galleries and buy things you love.

  Yeah, I've got lvp and tile in other areas too. The shark I have doesn't have a bag, just the tank lift away style, but it does have hepa filters. I did a sweep with a swiffer pet and then ran the shark and it seemed to do a good job. But yeah, I definitely want to invest in a Miele or something for especially furniture.   Fair enough, in the past their products haven’t been the highest quality. My recent sharks have been harder and longer wearing than scarpas I’ve owned. I haven’t put a ton of use into their draws, but they feel nice to use, are smooth, and are rated/certified. I have a handful of friends with their newer crash pads too, and they are equal to any other pad we have out at the crag.

  This was my first razor as well in high school! Going to agree with the other poster here that said look into a safety razor. The amount you’ll save in blades and quality of shave is significantly better. It’s also not that much more difficult than cartridges to use. As someone with sensitive thin skin and course dark hair, going to a double edged razor made shaving enjoyable. Pick up a handle of your liking and an assorted variety pack of blades. Every hair/skin combo will prefer different brands. My favorites have been Shark super chrome blades.

  I dunno about "changing my life forever" but there are some things I wish I'd bought earlier: Shark Rocket cordless stick vacuum cleaner. I hated lugging my heavy, corded vacuum around and I hated cutting hair off of the roller. I have wooden floors, a small, very dusty apartment, and like 4 electrical outlets total. The stick vacuum is also way better at picking up hair and doesn't get jammed up. Loop ear plugs. They are cute and I can attach the case to my bag. I get migraines and am sensitive to noise, and these are great to use on public transit or in noisy areas. Costway twin tub washing machine. I hate using communal laundry machines because they're disgustingly dirty and expensive. I got the kind without a pump. I just put it in my tub and fill it up with my hand held shower head. I save $60+ a month and don't have to worry about other people's nastiness on my clothes.

  Best vacuum for pet hair?

  Don't know about longevity, but I decided against a Miele and Sebo (I've had both in the past, and yes, they are great vacuums) because I like having the option to fix things. Besides, I'm old. BIFL isn't as long as it used to be. If I have to buy another vac in 8 or 10 years if I'm still around I'm okay with that. I ended up with a Shark Stratos. I wanted one of the largest dust cups and suction that you didn't mess with. IOW, pick up everything off the floor you don't want it sucked up. It's delivering on that. But it is a beast. It's not a lightweight vac like my old Shark. I have rabbits, and their fine hair get practically woven into things. After the first vac, the edges of my rugs no longer look white and fuzzy. Because of the bunnies, this vac also has to deal with hay. I was freaking when I couldn't snap out the main roller when some hay got caught on it. Read the instructions on clearing the roller (lowest height setting, switch it on), and it cleared it out right away. And amazingly, no hay clogs. Can't remember the last time that happened. Also, not having to clean that main roller of hair is heaven.

  In the market for Cloth Iron

  Some Rowenta irons are made in Germany and some in Mexico. Most sellers list country of origin. I left my German Rowenta with my ex and am perfectly happy with my Shark iron. Empty the water after each time you use it and keep hitting that steam button to totally clean it out.

  My NV352 lasted for over a decade and only was replaced because the HEPA cover broke and replacement wasn’t handy. I was not pumped about other ways to hold it together, and ultimately thought it’s probably time. The Shark Rotator replaced my 352 and it is a good replacement. Maybe a canister is better but my wife won’t use it, hates the Sebo (just pictures) and even though since I do most of the vacuuming i still have to consider her wants. She wanted/still wants a cordless, which we have a shark version and I refuse to buy another. I’ve replaced the battery on it to extend the life, but to buy the Dyson and see the battery issues they have is a non-starter. Shark for life and budget. I’m sure for $1200 the Miele is great but it’s hard for me to justify that to my cost conscious wife.

  My shark vacuum uses three different filters, including a hepa filter; though, it doesn't require replacement-containment bags because of its slick canister design. Purchased this vacuum eight years ago, around the time I adopted a husky, and I still love it. At this point, I think the only factor that would cause this sucking machine's demise would be discontinuing the filter's availability. I've stocked up, just in case.

  Shark is the move from the Wirecutter article the thing is amazing for like $150. You can buy 8 of them or 1 miele. I know this is BIFL but things with moving parts are never "for life" get the shark and a nice rigid shop vac from home Depot for heavy duty vacuuming and you'll be set.

  I’ve had a Dyson v8 for 5 years and it still works great which seems impressive for a stick vacuum. I also have a near decade old shark navigator that still works like the day I bought it. Now if I could just find a robot vacuum that lasts better than the POS roomba I have.

  My parents and I have each had the shark for over a decade, and we just replaced the tube that was cracking, but otherwise it's still going strong. The Amazon reviews also might be due to a decrease in quality, since we each got ours for like $100 in the days of stacking Bed Bath and Beyond coupons with other discounts.

  Funny. Have a Dyson V15 and hate that thing. Underpowered, always clogging. Got a cheap, lightweight plug-in Shark and love that thing. Handles everything and never complains. My only point being life rarely provides one right answer. Hope everyone finds their BIFL.

  I had the shark navigator. Bought it refurbished from a seller on Ebay that sells specifically refurbished vacuums. Worked super well until my dumbass was holding it in a stupid way and dropped it from several feet up. Even so, it's repairable, just one of those project we haven't quite got to. Very much reccommend.

  I have two sharks (neither is that one, but one is the original Navigator Pro) and they are both awesome. My original NP has lasted for over a decade now, and I haven't had replace anything in that time, nor has it ever broken. I take it apart to clean the filters regularly, and it just keeps going.

  Check out thrift stores for a few weeks - you're sure to run into vacuums like old Kirby models from the 50s-70s that, while they weigh 50 pounds, will suck an egg through a straw. Edit: and Orecks come up a lot too. Grabbed one for $10 and it's completely replaced my Shark. Saw a professional model for $50 at a goodwill today actually.
