  If you want real quality - get quality headphones and a separate mic. Shure sm58 for example is a mic that will last you forever - they are built like a tank, and have been used on countless recordings and tours.

  What are the Best Earbuds for Sleeping Now?

  Shure SE215. End of story. I travel for a living and spend much of my time sleeping on buses overnight as we travel between shows. I have used these for literally thousands of nights to help drown out the sounds of the road and my colleagues who stay up much later than me. They're comfortable, they stay in, and if you want them for listening to music during the day they're great for that too.

  What signs do you look for to tell if something will actually last years?

  If it's a product that has been around a while, see what the secondhand price is...if a used one is selling for a good portion of the price of a new one, it probably holds up well. My best example of this is used Shure SM58 microphones. Used they sell for about 80-90% the price of new ones, because they are damn near indestructible

  Came here to recommend shure. Been using since before the wireless iem fad and they are still better than most earphones i have. And sound blocking still better than active sounds isolation

  I wear them to ride motorcycles. Caveat is I like the ones that wired together. Best sound is Shure se215. for quality at a good price the Beats Flex are great.

  My 20+ year old Shure IEMs sound amazing, but I can’t replace the cable. I have to be careful with them. The side benefit is that no noise filters in when listening to them. They’re like the best noise canceling IEMs.

  I had a pair of Shure iems that were easily 15 years old before finally developing a short, after having been used ~15-30ish hours a week the entire time. Also had good experiences with Sony's professional headsets. Got 25 years of service before the headband broke 🫡

  +1 for wired IEMs , Shure cables and the 215s can be picked up for $70 multiple times during the year. Their 30" cable can loop through a belt loop and they stay pretty out of the way if it's under your shirt. Sound quality and replacement cables for $30 are pretty good combo. Still have my first set of 215s from 15 years ago. I'm currently rotating two pairs of Asus Cetra but I've lowered my listening hours to 8 hours a day. In 2 years span I've had to return 2 pairs and I've had my current 2 pairs for a year. I'm really tough on electronics, work in a warehouse, use them for weekend projects, and I can't sleep without them. Super light sleeper and tinnitus are my issues.

  Looking for in ear monitors with sound quality comparable to my earbuds

  Try any Crinacle or Moondrop! Shure is good, but also quite expensive for what you get, with any other brand you're most likely to get metal ones, which serves as longer lasting material Also the cable is replaceable, which is great (but that applies to p much every IEM tbh)

  Anyone know any good bluetooth earbuds that still have a wire connecting them?

  Shure se215. They are detachable and can be connected to a normal wire with headphones jack for times you would have use of that, but can also be attached to a Bluetooth controller (rmce-bt2) with buttons on it.

  I have some: shure se215 (2006 ones), shure e3c, sony mdr15ex, akg samsung earbuds, panasonic ergofit, and some xaiomi mi, skullcandy (cant remember) and akg k-44 not earbuds these. best for price IMO are akg samsung. even they only come with mic, sound was amazing... cannot find them only copies not good sounding (look for china made not vietnam, they came w/ samsung cell phones back in the day. sony budget are really good. shure se215 are great but pricey and e3c not that great but flat and not so expensive. xiaomi's suck panasonic ergofit are good but too bassy as are skullcandy (some wired some bt) and do yourself a favor and get akg k-44 or whatever the new model is!

  best wired earbuds with mic

  So I just bought the Shure SE215's to use for work calls, and the seal in my ear is pretty overwhelming. I'm coming from the QC-20's which felt really light in my ears; these feel really present in my ears. Anybody have an idea on a better option here?

  I would recommend the Shure's as well. Bose ultra open are probably the only other one I'd consider. They are different and take getting used to but worth it.

  They are a very old design/model, but I have had my se846 from sure (think I have had them for 10 years and they were used). Now my ears are also small and they are boarder line to big for me and I use the comply tips. Now the se215 is more more comfortable and secure along with being smaller. The se535 is similar in size while sounding better and now they offer a wireless module.

  Need a reliable pair of earbuds that won't die on me.

  I have Shure Aonics which are quite robust. There is a wide range of price/performance with Shure, all the way up to $800+. Mine are medium-low $275-ish range and are fantastic. Best to buy them from the Shure website directly.

  Especially with the old/very-cheap adapters that use SBC audio. But if you look for aptX HD or LDAC markings on your adapter, you should get proper good quality audio! AptX is more common on snapdragon-based phones. LDAC is quite common nowadays on other phones. Make sure your phone (or whatever device you store your music on) has these features before buying an adapter.

  I’ve used a bluetooth adapter with cheapo earbuds for years. It lets me put my phone on the machine and watch a video but also removes cables that I might get tangled up in. Wireless earbuds are something I would absolutely lose.

  Recommendation for earbuds

  I second this. My shures are over 10yrs old (I think around 15), have been through a washing machine, dropped god knows how many times and are still going strong. Need to replace the tips frequently but that’s with any buds. I have them with the Bluetooth adaptor but would not recommend them for their microphone. Any Bluetooth microphone will suck. SO also has them and his Bluetooth adaptors are dying after 4 hard years of work so still pretty good for their money. 10/10 would replace if lost or when they finally die

  Best over the ear headphones for less than $150?

  I know you said you wanted "over the ear" type, but I've had a pair of [Shure 215s](http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PNZFZ8) and I love them. They're tiny and don't get in the way, like earbuds, but due to the design they don't fall out, even during activities. They do a fantastic job of blocking outside noise, which means you don't need to turn the volume way up just to hear your music. The sound quality is really good as well (disclaimer: I'm not an audiophile). I was hesitant to spend $90 but I'm glad I did.
