NHS mattress painfull
If the NHS mattresis too firm, you might want to try a good quality memory foam or hybrid mattress topper first cheaper and can soften things up a lot. If you’re set on a new bed, brands like Emma or Simba (if you’re in the UK) are well-reviewed for softer comfort.

Best mattress in a box advice needed - which ones actually hold up over time?
I can second the Simba. Bought a Simba 5000 hybrid 3-4 years ago and I'm still amazed every time I get into it.

I bought the Simba from Sleep Country. Had it about 2 years now and it feels brand new. Not long enough to know anything else but it’s excellent for sleep quality and side sleeping. Great support! But pricier though about $1700 CAD for the model I have. We also have a Douglas (Canadian Brand) and I like it too. We have had it for about 5 years and no issues yet. It’s a little firmer and not as great for side sleeping in my opinion which is why I got the Simba instead, but still a solid well made mattress and doesn’t have a “body imprint” on it yet even though it was used daily for at least 2 years and then now is in a guest room. It was about $1000ish 5 years back.
