  What are the up-and-coming companies known for quality goods?

  As a watch guy this makes me cringe. In general I try to buy from brands that are focused. They sell leather goods, watches, surge protectors, calendars, dog sweaters bocce ball sets, and who knows what else. Shinola is charging $2k for their automatic watches that are using an sw-200 movement. Sinn, Christopher ward, marathon, anOrdain (those dials are stunning and made by hand in house), etc. for 2k you are running into gray market or used omegas and tudors even. Sorry for the rant but I have been entirely unimpressed by their watch offerings after initially being really hopeful.

  Yea it is. But as others have said, tritium fades and might have to be reapplied at some point. But marathon are tough as nails. Check out Sinn and Damasko as well. CWC is another (although overpriced in my opinion)

  Don't concede. I own a Rolex and I'll be the first one to admit it's a vanity purchase. You can get a Sinn for 1/4 the price and it's more durable. Plenty of even cheaper quartz options that will last just as long.

  I’m saying you don’t need to spend $1000, OP could do just as well with a Sellita watch at half the price of a Sinn. After all considering they want buyitforlife, the movement is the most important consideration.

  Nomos or Sinn have wonderful pieces you can get in that price range. Personally have a Nomos Club Campus and a Sinn 556i - very easy to change bands to them dressy, casual, sporty etc Both watches are 38mm but I’d try them out before buying- might just work very well on your wrist just down to their styling and colours. If you’re open to second hand, the Longines Legend Diver 36mm or Oris Aquis in 36mm fall into range. Hope this helps!

  I have a 104 and was going to recommend sinn. In my late night experience, I can read the time with adjusted eyes all through the night. They aren't cheap, but are built very well. If you are a fan of mechanical devices, the sapphire case back (on any mechanical watch) is mesmerizing. If you are US based, the only dealer is watch buys and are online only. I was able to find mine second hand.

  Durable Watch for hands on work

  Thanks for all the recommendations! Gonna take me a bit to go through everything. A little more background- I wear a rolex datejust pretty much 24/7 since I've gotten it 8 years ago. I only take it off for the field work but keep on for gym, housework, some shop work, sports, etc. Its great but don't wanna risk it during the field work. When I first started about 15 years ago I broke a Casio Edifice and that's made me take watches off during the field work. I do heavy mechanical maintenance on wind turbines. Lots of grease, oil, solvents, impacts, grease, scratches, vibration, more grease. Since I have a nice and great watch I am not looking to buy another crazy expensive one. Not looking to start collecting. The Casios are a little over the top for me now as far as style. I like it to be just a single dial, not too distracting, or big. Something under 40mm, in the 35mm range. So far looks like Timex could be best cheap option. Bertucci, Boldr reasonable with Hamilton a little more. Vostok for the dark horse. And Sinn if I want to splurge.

  Anyone have any watch recommendations? I’ve been wearing the same $30 watch every single day for 11 years to my blue collar job and it’s reaching its breaking point.
