Looking For Shoe Recommendations
You can try checking out Dansko clogs for comfort and durability, they're popular in healthcare for being supportive, long lasting and stain resistant. If you want something a bit more versatile, Alegria or Skechers Work clogs are also great options. Both offer good support and should be gentle on your ankles too. Hope this helps.

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Thunderbolt massage gun. Tenderises sore calf and thigh muscles after long day at work or after the gym. Aids muscle recovery. Also: invest in good footwear. I’m on my feet 8 hours a day and my feet never hurt thanks to Sketchers.

What alternatives to shoes do you use when stepping outside?
I have a pair of Skechers, I think, cushiony-foam loafers that I had to buy one day when my new docksiders were chewing up my heels. They don’t have any support so they get used for short trips outside.

Sketchers may not be considered “cool,” but they are incredibly comfortable and durable.

Looking for a pair of “car slippers” that will actually last
I think sketchers slip ins would be great for this. I have a pair that I use like slippers in the house and for short trips outside (dumping trash, mailbox, etc.) Sketchers last pretty well in general and I think they would last a long time in this use. There are other brands that are similar. My pair is a few years old showing no wear with light use around the house. I dont use them for more only because I prefer laced shoes for walking any distance.

What's a purchase under $50 that has genuinely improved your daily routine?
BIFL suggestion but it's over £50 - Skechers. I got a pair of slip-ons about 6 months ago and they're so comfortable they've ruined other shoes for me. I had a pair of their standard flat ballet pump type shoes when I was doing 12 hour shifts in a kitchen and the only part of my body that didn't ache was my feet.

Should Birkenstock soles look this bad after 1 year of occasional use?
In one year, my Birkenstock shoes completely fell apart. They split in the middle and the heels crumbled into pieces. After replacing them with another pair of Birkenstock, the same thing happened again within a year. This was with walking 2+ hours daily. I wear sketchers now. Going strong for over a year still.

What's everyone's go-to sneaker?
Since the 80’s, Nike tennis shoes have held up longer, for me, than any other shoe brand. I’ve tried them all, multiple times, over the years. They’ve also been the most consistent in size for me too! To the point where I just buy them off the Nike App directly from the factory. A close 2nd would be Sketchers, which I didn’t try till about 15 years ago. They were a good choice too. Reebok and Adidas fall apart fast on me, within a year or less.

Very sad to say Blundstones are no longer BIFL. I had a pair in my youth that lasted me a decade. Now after a few short months the soles of this pair has literally turned to dust!
While I agree with others that you are putting the miles on them, I still think they wore out too quick unless you're walking on gravel. I wear steel toe Skechers for work and get about 2000 miles out of these $80 shoes.

Non-popular sneakers which will last at least couple of years
Sketchers cessnock, they are essentially shoes for kitchen workers but they are slip on for the most part and lasted me a few years

What brand of shoes that lasts?
Hey! Yeah, sneakers wearing out fast is annoying. Your Reeboks lasting 3-4 years is solid! I’d stick with Reebok’s Club C 85 Vintage comfy leather, good sole, around $75-$90, lasts well. New Balance 574s are another good one suede/mesh, comfy cushioning, $80-$90, holds up 2-3 years. Or try Sketchers Go Walks light, flexible, under $60, great for daily use. All fit your $100 budget and should feel good everywhere. What do you think?

Looking for quality durable shoes
The shoes you described are all flat-sole types, not really supportive for a job where you walk a lot. You should have at least two pairs to rotate, so they dry out between wears. Otherwise, they will disintegrate from the moisture in your feet - one pair will never get the chance to dry out. Rotate three pairs and you will get many more wears from all three. I have had several pairs of Clarks shoes that have lasted for 10+ years. I also love my Skechers, they bounce so I am not plodding my feet in them. My On Trainers have also lasted me an age so far. Also look for barefoot shoes, which let your toes naturally widen and breathe. Vans, Converse etc confine your feet too much if you are on your feet all day.

Boots that will last a long time
In the early-mis 2000s Sketchers made a boot like the. I lived in mine (and still own a pair in black and brown because when they were discontinued i bought a couple spares). While not BIFL, you may be able to find a [vintage pair](https://poshmark.com/listing/Womens-Sketchers-Black-and-Brown-LaceUp-Ankle-Boots-67d423420a60d593545c2862?utm_source=gdm&utm_campaign=21905647186&campaign_id=21905647186&ad_partner=google&gskid=pla-2266644948945&gcid=721145050256&ggid=173216423911&gdid=m&g_network=g&enable_guest_buy_flow=true&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw--K_BhB5EiwAuwYoyhh80wYY0qgdo1kc8Q_RgKIGZXIeGBrcHmJn1-mpDn6518Zrv0XbIxoCL_wQAvD_BwE)

How do I repair this part of the shoe? I know I could buy a new pair but why when the rest of the shoe is in great condition?
Darn it! Or patch of its easier for you. If you sew one in, you don’t have to worry about glue failing, and can even stuff a scrap of fabric inside to cushion the soft bit

How do I repair this part of the shoe? I know I could buy a new pair but why when the rest of the shoe is in great condition?
^ This is the main answer. I got a couple pairs of dress shoes a year ago and invested in a shoe horn to use with them. I started using it for my sneakers too and it + the little hangey strap on the back of the shoe prevent the interior plastic/metal from ripping & poking out.

as a cobbler do not under any circumstance ever even think of ever using super glue on a shoe it wont hold, in this area it'll cause issues, it'll likely cause blisters, and make you toss the shoes because you wont be able to remove it from the fabric rubber cement in some mole skin if you want an at home fix. cobblers can sewn in a patch of whatever you desire

Also, start using a shoe horn. That may help against abrasion when putting them on. Assuming this isn’t happening because you wear them loose or something.

Ladies, what are the MOST comfortable boots you’ve worn for walking 10k+ steps a day?
honestly? i have a cheapo pair of sketchers ankle boots in black. they’ve lasted me for ages. i walk a ton in them and they’re as comfortable as my brooks running shoes or topo trail shoes. i’ve been very surprised and impressed by them.

How is ASICS durability?
I’ll never by them again. Had one pair for not even 6 months and got a hole right near the big toe. Filled out a warranty form on their website for a credit for a new pair, got less credit back than what I paid, whatever. Picked a new pair, a different style and a few months later, the same thing happens! And yes it was the right size, they were definitely not too small. I’m back to Sketchers since they have never done me wrong.

Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?
I developed foot problems last year and as a walker, tennis and pickleball player, this is BAD. Sketchers worked better than any other shoes I tried. Cheap "recovery" slipped work for around the house - and I have largely given up New Balance (I have wide feet) for Amazon house brand Fitville....all my foot problems are solved.

Black non slip work shoes for walking all day
Every couple years I go to the Sketchers store and buy two new pairs (they're always running a buy 1 get one half off sale). I think they're usually around \~$70 before the discount.

Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?
Camper, Cinnamon shoes, Naturalista, ART shoes - depending on the model, some are very comfortable, but not all of them. I’ve seen some shoes with crocs sole but tennis shoe top? And some medical workers and elderly really like Sketchers shoes due to the memory foam sole.

Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?
If you're expecting to walk serious distances you might look at the more casual models from hiking brands such as Lowa or Salomon. Just for around town a simple retro model from any brand (Adidas Samba?), Sketchers or even just All Stars will do fine. To me behavior screams American more than outfit, maybe except for elderly travellers with their cruise ship tour guide wearing a baseball cap, New Balance dad sneakers and oversized kaki slacks pulled up to their armpits.

Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?
Sketchers. As a man in his early 40s who just wants comfort and style-be-damned, I dig those shoes. I've got hella wide feet as well, and Sketchers are just way more comfortable overall. Europeans are gonna judge you no matter what you wear, so shoot for maximum comfort. Those streets are hella uneven, so you'll really appreciate the extra comfort. BIFL? Nope. But European streets will put any BILF shoes to the test. Get some cheapies and toss em after your trip.

Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?
Sketchers, in black. Not memory foam, they're rubbish for all-day walking. Comfy & no-one will even look twice at them, because the logos are almost invisible on black.

My friend goes through shoes/boots within a couple months, are there comfortable, lifetime quality options for restraunt workers in the 300usd range? Please advise, thank you
I have had good luck with non-slip Crocs and Sketchers work shoes (the kind that look like sneakers more than the clogs if front of house). I have tried Gortex running shoes for easy cleaning but found them too hot. I find any kind of boot heavy and therefore tiring or hard on my joints (props to everyone who uses steel-toed boots at work!!). I haven't found a truly BIFL shoe for people who work on their feet all day. I work in healthcare and rotate two or three pairs through four-ish years (although now I just wear straight-up running shoes). I did have a pair of Sketchers that somehow made it seven years with new insoles every couple years. Some of my colleagues like Dansko shoes but I find the heels are so stacked I feel wobbly. I have done some work in restaurants and also never found anything truly non-slip in tiled kitchens that don't have mats, but that was a long time ago.
