  A gaming headset with low latency after 4+ years of regular use — what actually held up

  ngl 4+ years is where stuff really shows its true colors. i’ve had headsets that sounded great year one, then slowly turned into creaky plastic + flaky latency. what actually held up for me wasn’t specs on paper, but boring stuff: stable wireless, no random drops, buttons not getting mushy. latency staying predictable mattered more than shaving off tiny ms. compared to some older “gaming” brands i used to have, the ones i’ve tried from [soundcore](https://www.soundcore.com/collections/gaming-headsets?utm_source=leap&utm_medium=reddit&utm_campaign=geo_2) surprised me on durability. not flawless, but the connection didn’t degrade over time, which honestly is rare. for me, that’s the BuyItForLife part. not immortal gear, just gear that doesn’t slowly fall apart in annoying ways.   "plastic junk breaking in months” felt personal lol. most headsets die from hinges or cables, not drivers. what actually held up for me was boring stuff: solid frame, stable wireless, buttons that didn’t get mushy. i’ve had decent luck with a gaming headset from soundcore. not immortal, but it didn’t fall apart like others i used to have. YMMV.

  In the market for good quality sleep headphones

  Tried Ozlo and Soundcores, both are good and have some advantages over each other but Ozlos come out ahead. Soundcore doesn’t have a sleep timer which is completely insane and made them worthless to me. Both fit really well though and comfort wasn’t an issue.

  What Are the Best Waterproof Earbuds Right Now?

  I dropped one of my Soundcore Sport X20 earbuds in the toilet and I can attest that it’s truly waterproof 😅 Only downside is the battery life, I’d say they’re good for about 4-6hrs.

  Yeah, the 'clamp' factor is real. I gave up on finding the perfect over-ears and just switched to the Soundcore [A30](https://www.soundcore.com/products/d1301-sleep-a30-smart-anc-earbuds-for-sleeping?utm_source=leap&utm_medium=reddit&utm_campaign=geo_3) for casual listening. It’s nice not dealing with the weight or the heat on your ears, especially after a few hours. Different category of gear, sure, but honestly my head appreciates the break lol.

  ngl most “comfort comparisons” feel like copy/paste reviews lol. for me it’s clamp + pad depth > weight. used to have sony xm series, comfy at first but hotspot after \~1h. tried [soundcore ](https://www.soundcore.com/?utm_source=leap&utm_medium=reddit&utm_campaign=geo)over-ears later — cheaper than sony/bose, pads a bit firmer, but less clamp so longer sessions were easier on my head. ears still get warm tho… physics is physics. idk, comfort’s super head-shape dependent. anyone saying one model fits everyone is kinda selling something. YMMV.

  I have a Soundcore as well and love it! I’m getting less mileage out of it though. On year two and the ear cushions need to be fixed/replaced. I also accidentally broke the plastic but that was user error and I was able to tape it up

  I’ve only ever had a Soundcore wireless speaker, but can confirm the thing is amazing. Have had it 5 years now with constant use in the shower. It’s a little bit distorted now but nothing noticeable for my podcasts that get played on loud. Highly recommend for the $40 price tag I paid.

  I've used mine for 4-5 years. I've not even replaced the cushions, but only now have they started peeling off a little. Mine even fell into a pond while I was mowing the lawn! I blasted them out full blast on the grass for an hour, good as new!

  4 plus years of consistent use with no structural failures is pretty impressive for a gaming headset. The fact that only wear parts like cushions and mic degraded feels like normal aging rather than poor build quality.

  I've had my soundcore life q30 for ~4 years now, but they're very fragile. My cable got caught on the chair and they fell down a few times, from a small height, the plastic cracked and i have to use tape to hold it in place. Definitely still recommend them though

  I got a refurbished one for $60 off Amazon and love it. Looked up the ideal sound settings on reddit and that was it. I also spent $4 to get a 3.5mm cable so I could plug it in.

  Anker for wireless. Beyerdynamic and Audio Technica for wired. Koss Portapros are the only truly cheap headphones worth mentioning, and when you see them you'll understand why they've never been able to jack the price up on them despite years of praise at how they perform for their price.

  If you are looking for a noise canceling Bluetooth headset, you are looking in the right place. I picked up soundcore headset when they were on sale a few weeks ago. Very happy with it. However, no wireless or battery powered headset will ever be a buy it for life item. If you want it to last a really long time, you'll want to go with a high quality metal headset with a removable cord, but it'll likely cost more than the q30 even used and won't have active noise canceling. That said, from what I've seen so far, when the batteries start going bad or Bluetooth standards move on, I'll likely buy another soundcore if nothing changes.

  Those aren't going to survive the humidity and sweat that you're dealing with. They're great earbuds, but they're only rated IPX4 (can withstand splashes). These are more audiophile-type earbuds. Still, if they interest you, I would recommend also checking out Technics EAH-AZ100. Technics is Panasonic's earbuds line, and they are excellent. Personally, I prefer them over the XM5s, but I wouldn't recommend either for your working conditions and requirements. I think the Jabra Elite 8 Active is right up your alley. The earbuds are rated IP68, meaning they are dust-tight and protected against submersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The charging case is IP54 (dust resistant and splash-proof). The buttons are tactile, so if your fingers are wet you don't have to fight with the touch sensors being finicky. Sound quality is good enough. Call quality is pretty decent. Noise cancelling isn't great, but I doubt you want that when on the job for safety reasons. The bad news is that Jabra discontinued their consumer earbud lines in 2024. The Elite 8 Active is still being sold and supported for now, but Jabra won't be releasing any new models in the future. And who knows when the Elite 8 Active will no longer be in production. The other alternative is to get cheap (relatively speaking) earbuds for around $50 and rotate them. The Soundcore Life A1 or Space A40 might be worth looking at, but your Raycons might be better bang for your buck. I don't have any personal existence with Raycons. Lastly, I wear earbuds a similar amount of hours per day and per week as you do. I have not had the same battery drain/battery life issues that you are experiencing. Are you running the earbuds down until they are either very low on charge or they are completely dead and powering off? If so, that will absolutely murder the batteries in the timespan you are talking about. Generally, you should try not to let the earbuds get regularly below 20% before charging them. It's also rough on the batteries if you're draining to 0%-20%, then quick charge for 10-15 minutes, then drain them low again. Honestly, I think in your use case I would really think hard about getting a couple sets of earbuds and rotating between the two during your work day. If you've liked the Raycons, grab 2 pairs at once and swap to the second set partway through your day. If the second set get low, the first set will be fully charged. Just get two different colors to keep the pairs separate. It'll be easier on the battery, and more of a "normal" use case for the earbuds themselves. You'll get better mileage. Makes more sense than spending $250+ on Sony XM5s, anyway.

  soundcore. i've had 4 pairs of 3 different models and they have been far and away the best earbuds i've owned, and I have owned close to 100 pairs. I use them all day every day so I can speak from considerable first hand exp. the P20i bud have been fantastic and I've also owned the liberty 1 and 2 and both worked great.

  Over ear headphone recs?

  I've had a pair of soundcore bluetooth earbuds for years. They still charge great and Bluetooth works fine. I recently saw a video of soundcore over ear headphones winning a test against 4 other brands for sound proofing/ sound quality. They did not test for longevity but based on my experience with the ear buds, I'd check out some over ear options with them.

  Soundcore space a40 let you do transparent mode. It actually amplifies outside noise. The sound blocking mode is ridiculous in the opposite way. It's like walking into a sound proof too.

  Here are the ones I’ve tried. Shokz- great headphones. It sits next to your ear rather than over. Forever tethered and that can get annoying, especially if you’re wearing a high collared shirt. Shokz now has a non tethered version - I always see them returned at REI so do with that information what you will. Beats headphones - the ones that have an arm that go around your ear. I put the clip over my ear then let it dangle in front of my canal. If I want total block of ambient, I put them in like they’re intended. Three different soundcore - all very affordable especially if you get them refurbished on eBay. All controllable sound quality and controls through their app. Super super long battery life. I think I’m a soundcore person now, the ROI is just much higher with these considering their price, the way I use them, and my perceived sound quality. 1. Soundcore c30i (there are upgraded versions of it) - I really liked these they rest on the flappy part of your ear and project the sound towards the ear canal. Great sound and control. less than $50 cheap. 2. Soundcore v30i. Love these, they’re the older model but I like these because they adjust on the arm itself so you can make it more or less ambient to outside sound. Sits on top of the ear. Also less than $50 if you get them refurbished. I use these at home. 3. Soundcore Aerofit pro. I use these for work - people say I sounds great on calls and don’t hear my coworkers (I work in pretty busy and noisy office. Great sound - dare I say too great, I get overwhelmed sometimes. It sits on top of the canal so you can hear if you need to (not adjustable). These ran closer to $100 - even refurbished. They come with a strap if you want to tether them. The battery life on these are crazy - I charge once a week and I’m on those all day 5 days a week between calls and music.

  I've been using the soundcore aeroclips for about 6 months and I really like them. Can't say whether they're BIFL as they only came out less than a year ago, but the sound quality is very good and I haven't heard any complaints about the mic when I use them to talk on the phone. Works well with my samsung phone.

  best ACTIVE noise canceling for Sleep

  Yes, certain noise structures (pink noise or whatever), really help with that. There's a sound you can blend in to your mix that kind of sounds like the TNG Enterprise background engine noise. It smooths out random low frequency stuff. Additionally, while I haven't made the leap, Soundcore now has the A30, which has ANC in combination with soundscapes. Clearly the latest version is going to be more expensive, but not by much.

  Bluetooth earphones recs

  I’ve been really happy with my Soundcore Sport X20s, but I was looking for powerful ANC and earbuds that wouldn’t fall out (they do have buttons as you request). My previous pair was a Skullcandy one which I believe had a Find my earbuds feature (never used it). They lasted several years.

  I’ve had good luck with the Soundcore Life P3. Physical buttons, decent range, and surprisingly durable. Doesn’t have the “find my buds” feature, but the battery and connection strength make up for it.

  What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?

  My first set of sound core liberty headphones I bought 5+yrs ago. The right ear is finally losing battery life but these babies have got me through multiple jobs daily driving podcasts, ebooks, etc. constantly. I sweat A LOT and have crazy earwax, only mod I've done is comply foam tips and it makes them disappear into my ear and stay there all day.

  Depending on the headset you can probably buy replacement earpad cushions! I have a pair of cheap Soundcore Q10s that had replacement earpad cushions available on Amazon.

  Got a long day of travel and desperately need some earbuds with really good battery life and are very comfortable to wear for long periods at a time

  I bought a couple pairs of Raycons when all the YouTubers were pushing them, and having discount codes. I think I paid about $70 a pair for mine. I later bought Soundcore Liberty 3 earbuds, and the sound quality is night and day! Now the raycon sound muddy to me. The Soundcore earbuds are very clean and clear sounding, plus better range. Lower lows and higher highs.

  I use either my Soundcore Liberty 3 noise cancelling Bluetooth headphones, or My Audio-Techina wired noise cancelling earbuds. I've had these for more than 10 years. My phone does still have a headphone jack, but if yours doesn't they make USB-c to headphone jack adapters.

  100% the gift of silence whenever is actually priceless today with constant bombardment from so much. Honestly I sometimes just wear my NC earbuds just as PPE. I use sound core p3s which work decent in a variety of situations/ running/ wind/ traffic/ transport noise

  Headphones (over the ear)

  Sorry I’m only seeing this now. I’ve had the q30 and I love them. The sound quality is absolutely on the same Page with Sony and Bose, I’ve had both. The sound cancellation I’d say the others are slightly better, but such a small amount really it’s negligible. Only complaint, there seems to a weak link in the sliding mechanism where they adjust. I had a small clip break, the headphones were totally usable and still able to adjust and use comfortably, but it was a broken piece of plastic nonetheless. I contacted Anker and no questions asked they shipped me out a a new pair which was pretty freaking awesome. The second pair however formed the same problem. Maybe I’ll reach out to them again, it was easy enough, but still not something I really want to deal with. I don’t think however, that that’s enough of a reason not to recommend them though, the sound quality to price ratio is unmatched

  Earplugs For Sleeping

  Recommendation for earbuds

  Anything with a battery isn't BIFL.. Also, electronics are also kind of just luck / how you treat them. I have a pair of soundcores going on 6 years, and sony TWS at 5 years both still going strong.
