Sperry Gold Cup Orleans Lite Leather or Gold Cup Full Grain Leather?
I had a pair of Sperry shoes that look like the Gold Cup photo that I got second hand with a good amount of wear already and they lasted for at least 6-8 additional years of heavy use. The biggest aspect beyond the leather quality is maintenance - cleaning and keeping up with waterproofing - and then the wear of the sole. I think the Gold Cup looks nicer and the tan soles might be easier to find replacements when the sole wears down.

Sperry Gold Cup Orleans Lite Leather or Gold Cup Full Grain Leather?
No however mine are ~4 years old and I can’t speak to how they are constructed now. I just compared my GC pair to an old pair of Sperry originals which I keep around as a beater yard work shoe- the leather is noticeably softer, the insole has more padding and more comfortable and overall the shoe is just better constructed. I would go through a pair of the originals every 18 months or so before a stitch would tear on the outsole. I don’t baby them; wear them 4-5 days a week for about 10 months out of the year. For me the GC versions are a good value proposition. They are well made, regularly on sale (in the States at least) and are the classic preppy/Ivy look that are incredibly versatile style wise. However BIFL they are not.

Sperry Gold Cup Orleans Lite Leather or Gold Cup Full Grain Leather?
I love boat shoes and actually have had the second pair for ~4 years. While the Gold Cups are definitely more durable and better materials than their entry line (having owned both I will only buy GC going forward), I wouldn’t say it’s BILF. Someone else mentioned Rancourts and I’d agree with that recommendation. I own a pair of their penny loafers and the quality/craftsmanship is top notch.

Sperry Gold Cup Orleans Lite Leather or Gold Cup Full Grain Leather?
a full grain leather is almost always sturdier. It'll take a bit longer to break in than a split grain or other type of leather. The other thing about full grain is it's a leather that gets better looking as it ages. It gets a great patina, and the natural scars and scuffs you get over the years look great better on full grain than on any other leather. It's like the difference between a scar on Danny Trejo's face and Timothee Chalamet's face.

Reef Flip-Flops aren't even "Buy It For Now"
About 11 years ago when I started wearing flip flops more often during the summer, all my bartender friends recommended Reef. I probably had around five different pairs, and some of them were cool designs (I didn’t get the bottle opener on the bottom). They were ok in comfort. The most expensive pair lost the grip on the bottom. I was just not impressed. At the same time, my old roommate got a pair of Sperry Baitfish, and I quietly scoffed at him. I thought the brand was just for boat shoes. I tried them on and they were comfortable due to thicker sole from toe to heel. I had Reef with thick cushion but they were thinner at the forefoot. I just bought my second pair of Sperry Baitfish because they were on sale and my old pair got slightly torn from stepping on a nail. Always wanted to try Rainbow and Olukai, but my flip flops times have reduced drastically and don’t see a point owning multiple pairs.

Driving Shoe Recommendations
Sperry Davenport have lasted me several years. I beat the hell out of them. Piloti also do great shoes, but the rubber sole is wearing fairly quickly on mine.

How are the mighty fallen
I recently bought a pair of Gold Cup Sperry’s and they are definitely more comfortable and feel more substantial. I’ll be interested to see how long they last, I typically burn through a pair each year.

In praise of Sperry Gold Cup Boat Shoes, ca. 1995
Hmmmm. I haven't had that problem. But I do follow the advice of an old sailor friend, because they are designed for wet slick surfaces, to sometimes flex the soles to open up the pattern and give it a light brushing w/ a wire or very stiff bristle brush to - and I quote, "Open it up and get the bird shit out."

Alternates to LL Bean duck boots?
Sperry offers duck boots for a similar price. Not sure about their quality but I know their boat shoes are good from experience
