BIFL, but also BISecondhand. What are some things that everyone should keep an eye out for, but can commonly be found for cheap when preowned.
The obvious clothes, but especially ski gear. I've found personally on sites like vinted, I can get loads of clothes for work that are second hand. Because the majority of the vinted audience is young people looking for trendy clothes like lacoste, ralph lauren, and they want T shirts, jeans and jackets, I almost hit an untapped market I got a pair of RLX (ralph lauren golf) chinos for 10 quid, I wear them to work and golf, and they're my favourite trousers. I got a spyder half zip (about 150-200 new) for 40 quid, and all of these clothes you could pick up in a store and be happy with, no signs of aging at all. Trendy fashion is hard to get but for smart gear, or ski gear, people don't know what they're missing and the massive oversaturation isnt there, so you can pick up some nice ski and smart gear on sites like vinted.

In need of warm winter coat with a budget of $350-400
I bought an awesome snowboard jacket 24 years ago. It is a Spyder brand and I paid around $500 for it in 2000. I wear it still. I have replaced the Velcro, and the drawstrings need to be replaced. It is still super warm, waterproof, and windproof. The shell needs to be treated though, because a day in the snow it does get damp, but does not get to skin.

Yellowknife here. I just wear a Spyder beanie bought at Costco for $20. Also wear a [bula](https://bulabula.com/products/convertible-balaclava_sucon_black) and a [neck gaiter](https://www.sportsexperts.ca/en-CA/p-power-fleece-adult-neck-warmer/365116/365116-7) if it’s below -30. It was -41 yesterday and I was fine.
