Best thing to buy for $100
The plastic backing on the inside of some of the Swiss gear backpack does disintegrate over time unfortunately (10+ years). I have one that has that coating and another that doesn’t. The laptop backpack that doesn’t have that feature is still holding up to daily use just fine to daily wear and travel. I also have a Swiss gear suitcase I bought for $35 on clearance cause I needed a suitcase that day for a work trip a decade ago. That’s held up really well too.

thinking of splurging on a luggage set, any recs that'll last for years?
I have some Swiss Gear luggage I bought at Target 5-10 years ago that still looks new. Some of it has been to Europe multiple times and survived baggage handlers just fine. I think the most expensive was the large one at about $130.

Backpack suggestions?
Swiss gear makes a good largish backpack thats TSA approved and has a laptop sleeve. Its also waterproof. My college kid has had it for 5 years and traveled a ton with it, she abuses it and it has held up great, its on year 6 now.

I have a light but steady use Swiss Gear computer backpack from the mid 90's. Still looks like new. Also have a Kelty backpack from 2012 that has also held up remarkably.

Agreed! I travel for work and my Swiss Gear is with me on every trip. Shoved under seats, crammed in overhead compartments, overpacked, rain, whatever… still looks great and not a scratch on it

My husband has had a Swiss Gear backpack for ~30 years. Just recently a zipper ripped. I bought him a new one but he still uses the old one. I’d skip Samsonite.

Can't decide on a backpack
I quite like my Swiss Gear bags. I had one all through school from 5th grade through senior year, but then had to get a new one when I snagged it in my locker and tore one of the shoulder straps in half. I bought a new one, and one of the laptop bags, and they’re still tanks all this time later.

Can't decide on a backpack
I know they aren't on your list but I'm a huge fan of Swiss Gear. I have 2, one is the bag I got in middle school and it's still going strong after 20+ years, the other I use daily for work and it's about 12 years old. Both are still holding up super well, no signs of them giving up any time soon.
