  A few underrated brands I keep seeing praised for real quality and value are Outerknown for durable, sustainable apparel, Fressko for surprisingly premium leak proof drinkware, Finex for boutique cast iron that feels heirloom level, Proof Eyewear for well made eco friendly sunglasses, and Taylor Stitch for responsibly produced menswear that actually holds up. They’re all still early enough in their lifespans that most people haven’t caught on yet, but the craftsmanship is already better than a lot of the long established big name brands.

  Is Taylor Stitch BIFL?

  I own a few garments from them and overall I am pleased with the quality. Full price is usually a little steep but I feel confident most of this stuff is going to last and will be easily repairable when worn through. For context, I mainly own their shirts and chinos, and avoid anything poly-blend or made with some kind of elastic. I’ve got shirts from TS that are made in USA, Portugal and China. I wouldn’t say the quality has changed dramatically, though some people complain about QC since they moved production to China. Some people will balk at the price point for clothing made in China, others will gladly buy from brands like RRL because of the quality regardless of the country of manufacture…

  Is Taylor Stitch BIFL?

  I live near one of their brick and mortar locations and I like looking at clothes more than I like buying them, so I went and looked at the jackets you mentioned. TL;DR, I like the chore coat and it looks well-built, and likely to last a long time with proper care and proper fit. I would avoid the blazer. Blazer - I'm not impressed by this piece personally. The seams were mostly acceptable and the seam allowances were sewn flat, so the manufacturing isn't bottom of the barrel. However, the edge finishing was mediocre, with a fair amount of serged edges (which are more prone to unravelling. Even the edges that weren't serged looked sloppy with inconsistent stitching. I took a pocture of the collar which I thought was particularly poorly finished. Lastly, the fabric looks difficult to care for (although I forget the exact care instructions), and the wool/nylon composition is acceptable for outerwear but I'd personally avoid it. Overall, I think the blazer is built in a way that doesn't justify its price, and I don't think it will last based on its materials and construction. Chore Coat — I was actually quite impressed with the one I tried, although I had one fit issue with it. The seams were better than the blazer, and all the high-stress parts of the garment I looked at were properly reinforced with an extra row of stitches. The edge finishing was harder to evaluate because there are few exposed edges, but to me that seems like a good design feature that will improve the garment's durability. The only flaw I could find were the button holes, which weren't particularly well finished but were acceptable (and probably repairable). I know the chore coat comes in a few different fabric options, but I only got to look at the moleskine (100% cotton twill). The fabric is on the lighter side for a jacket—IIRC the Taylor Stitch is 8oz, and similar jackets often use 10-12oz fabric. However, it should hold up unless you wear the garment particularly hard, and you might prefer the lighter weight. It's also a super easy garment to clean because it's 100% cotton. I liked the chore coat enough to try it on. Unfortunately the armpits on the jacket were too restrictive and limited range of motion in my arms. YMMV of course, and a proper fit will avoid stress points and improve longevity of the garment so you should try it yourself before committing. As far as the brand goes, I think some of their stuff is still worth it despite being made in China, but you will have to evaluate the construction and QC of whatever you buy.

  They used to be made in the USA and I bought their stuff. It was high quality. I got married in one of their suits, have a few shirts, and a few pairs of pants. When they moved production to China, and kept the high price, I quit buying it. They appeared focused on growth not on American workforces which had been why I liked them. Sorry that doesn’t answer your question entirely.

  Thoughts on the Taylor Stitch brand?

  A lot of Taylor stitch comes in measurements like a suit jacket with a tailored/slim fit, I’d say their sizing runs comparable to brands like Lacoste or Ralph Lauren slim fit. LL Bean, Duluth, Eddie Bauer run larger than RL and are usually a more relaxed fit for bigger guys. For example I wear medium in most LL Bean items, but a large in TS or RL.

  I’m looking for a sweater that will last me a long time & is very comfortable - an investment (:

  I love the LL Bean roll neck sweaters, have had two for years and they are in near new condition. Same with Taylor Stitch Crawford Sweaters. I’ve worn two of those almost daily the past three winters and they’re in great shape.

  Good Quality T shirt?

  Not sure where you live, so here are my top picks across the US and Europe. If you're in the US, Taylor Stitch is solid so is Lady White Co. In the UK, Spoke is great as they have a lot of different sizes. In France, GoudronBlanc makes what's probably the best tee-shirt there with their proprietary fabric. In NL, there's No Label which is quite minimalist with durable tees. In Germany, Merz b. Schwanen is worth checking out.

  Real textiles and quality-price is disappearing...

  I have no doubt that in many cases Chinese factories genuinely can put out higher quality because of how much American garment production has declined and shifted there, but I wasn’t buying Taylor stitch to find the best constructed shirt or jeans, I was buying it because they were one of the few places I found that made anything here that also looked good lol.

  Taylor stitch used to be MIUSA, when they switched to made in china their reasoning was the Chinese factories could genuinely put out better quality…but personally the main part of their allure was that they were made in the USA. Their quality was good enough imo. I despise when companies do an about face on something that made them distinct, and I don’t think their prices got lower either.

  Slim but durable double knee work pants?

  You probably bought something by now, but I’ve had the Taylor Stich chore pants for about a year now. Working as a home/septic/well/chimney inspector. Not the hardest on clothes, but sometimes crawling around on dirt/concrete and these have held up great. They feel “bullet proof” but they are stiff as fuck. No stretch at all. Took a little getting used to, and they wear better with age along with every time they get washed.

  Thoughts on the Taylor Stitch brand?

  I love Taylor Stitch and for the past five years, wear them almost exclusively. I have had no issues with shirts, sweaters, or jackets from them. Love the style and the fit. However, I have had issues with their pants. Some have held up over the years and some have prematurely worn out (specifically in the crotch). I've also had multiple pairs where the crotch zipper flap fabric has started developing holes for some reason. I've been in contact with their customer service to communicate these issues. For the most part, they've offered to cover the cost of fixing the pants, and offered to refund one pair of the pants. They say that they've only seen this amount of issues with me so I don't know if I'm somehow wearing them out prematurely or if other people just don't contact them if their pants wear out. I'm currently trying out some other brands' pants to see if I have the same issues. Personally, I love the brand. It's expensive, but I almost only buy items when they're on sale.
