  buy it for life cowboy boots?

  I just commented something similar above because I hadn't seen your post. I love my Tecovas and don't understand why people think they're phony. I get that they advertise to a broader crowd than some of the heritage brands do, but does that impact the quality? From what I understand, they are still handmade with quality leather. I don't do manual labor in mine (Redwings for that) but can walk all day in them. I also love that I've got a store down the street that will polish them up and give me a beer anytime I walk in!

  I've worn my Tecovas multiple days a week for over a year now and love them. Is there any real reason why you don't think they're good? This is gonna sound crazy but I actually find them more comfortable than my Luccheses.

  Just out of curiosity have those of you saying Tecovas is trash ever owned a pair? I have nothing but good things to say of the multiple pairs I have owned. For the past few years I have been wearing a pair of Cartwright's daily and get them resoled about once a year. I do actually work on a family ranch and do actual cow work in them. I am not saying anyone in here is wrong for their opinion I am just curious what specific experience has lead to that conclusion. I am always down to try another brand at some point but so far I haven't found a need to change. All this being said I can kind of see what you mean by their recent change in direction. Sometimes I see the adverts and just think its a bunch of people playing dress up which I take issue with generally as it seems western wear is in style which leads to enshittification of the products I rely on. This includes Carhartt, Wrangler, and the like.

  Soles fail long before the leather, and that’s what you’re seeing. Cemented soles peel, and there’s no saving them once the glue gets tired. If you actually want boots that can be rebuilt, you need a stitched welt. Goodyear welts, double welts, anything where a cobbler can put new bottoms on without the whole thing coming apart. Stick with full grain cowhide for daily wear. The pretty corrected stuff is just sanded and coated, and it shows its age fast. Leather linings matter more than people think. Fabric linings turn into grit traps, then the inside of the boot chews itself apart. For exotics, ostrich is the only one that holds up to actual walking. Caiman looks great until the scale joints start cracking, which they always do. Tecovas and Lucchese both have their decent lines, but avoid anything sold mostly on how soft the insole feels on the store carpet. Thick foam midsoles feel nice for a month, then they pack out and the whole boot feels dead.

  My belt got rubbed off after a short backpacking trip. What belt do you have that lasts?

  I just got one of those amish made belts and it seems to be great. I've been rocking a Tecovas leather belt for a few years too. But any time i'm outdoors, I use either my trayvax webbing belt or my blue alpha belt. The trayvax and blue alpha belt have seen many hiking and camping trips, hunting trips, and invasive species control work throughout the US.

  Best BIFL items I have: Kitchen: Le creuset : Standard Dutch oven The big frying pan 11.75” Sauce pot - the smaller kind Tea kettle Vitamix Blender Zojirushi Induction Rice Cooker Cold Steel chef knife - $26 https://a.co/d/18dqGoL I’ll die on this hill. I had Miyabi, Henckels, all kinds of fancy pants $500 knives. This $26 knife beats the shit out of them. Sharp, strong, throw that bitch in the dishwasher… sharpens to a razors edge and holds it. 5 years old, still like new. It’s also super thick, so you can abuse it pry bones then go finely chop garnish. I love this goddamn thing. Bonavita Coffee maker - 12 years old works perfect. Outdoors/sports/hobbies: Tikka rifle - will go to my grandkids. TRX - training system - nylon webbing - no reason for it not to last forever Pentax 645 Medium Format lenses. I’ve been using them across camera systems for decades now. Still like new, so smooth and beautiul. Got them new old stock from Japan 20 years ago. Unbelievably cheap at the time. Like $75 a lens. I have 4-5. You can adapt them these days to any mirrorless camera. I have a few RH pieces, like wardrobes, dinner table etc, all great, but from about 15 years ago. Not sure how they are doing nowadays. This is all natural selection. These are the items that have made it through the gauntlet of life, both reliability, but also usefulness, utility, and aesthetics. They look good, they work, and I actually use them.

  Wallet recommendations

  I have been slowly compiling a list of leather wallet makers, as recommended throughout Reddit. I'm reading reviews on different social media platforms. I have left off companies that have known issues responding to customers, always seem to have a 365 day sale, or their least expensive wallet is over $99 (like a basic card wallet).
