  Staub, speedqueen, bosch, miel, levis, pendleton, west elm contract grade, san yang pai, tesla (incredibly reliable and tesla has super efficient and relatively cheap repairs for basic issues)

  What is the equivalent of "Apple removed 3.5mm jack" of your favorite products ?

  My Mom is 70y/o and loves new tech. She bought a Tesla Model 3. I can’t stand it bc you have to press so many things to change the AC. I feel like it’s less safe vs physical controls. With my 2006 Scion xB, I just twist a knob for the AC.

Zojirushi Coffee/Tea Tumblers Miir Insulated Camping Mugs Tom’s Majorca Cutout Heels + Jutti Flats Nike Flex Sneakers Tesla/Rivian Kongs (for my dog) Bare Minerals Foundation Open Farms Rawmix Dog Food Pronamel Toothpaste Flamingo at-home Waxing Strips Clorox Wipes This isn’t exactly buy it for life. Some items I have I wouldn’t stockpile because I only need one. My favorite toothbrush for instance. I find that things that touch my body or my food tend to be products I select carefully and then am fanatically loyal to, so I would be most stressed if my cosmetics, underclothes etc were discontinued. But these are high quality, long duration consumable items that would make me panic if I could no longer find them when I went to get a new one. Hope some of these help!

  Which is better for BIFL - electric or gas-powered transportation?

  There's a Tesla out there with 1,250,000 miles on it - that's about 5 times what a reliable ICE car gets - so I think you could call that bifl Dude's on his 3rd or 4th battery, so clearly it's not too hard to swap it out (Supercharging lowers battery life, so you want to mostly slow charge over night instead of supercharge while out in town) Link: https://insideevs.com/news/699413/highest-mileage-tesla-model-s-3-batteries-14-motors/ EVs only got big in 2019 when the model 3 came out, so we only have 6 years of data for mass market EVs to work with to try to predict if they are bifl - but I think the early data is positive

  The only few models that I can find is the volt and the euv, and they're not cheap by any mean, in fact some are well above my 20k budget. I'm also concerned about reliability and maintenance as well as charging abilities I, however, was able to find a Kia Niro EV S for around 19.9k around 80k miles on them, and a few 2018-2020 model 3s for around that price range as well as the usual 10k 2nd and 3rd gen nissan leafs as well.

  I think something nobody has bouight up at this juncture is that we really have no idea what the future holds for gasoline production. There's a non zero chance that access to gasoline will become nearly impossible or prohibitively expensive in the next 10 to 20 years. There is just a huge amount of uncertainty around the subject regardless of where you stand on the science or politics of fossil fuels.  Electricity on the other hand is poised to only get more available and cheaper to produce as time goes on. As far as EVs go in general, I have an old model 3 (2018) and it has been extremely reliable besides one issue right when we got it that was quickly remedied. We have had some other issues with various peripherals but nothing major and they've mostly been handled in a very reasonable time frame. Certainly less hassle than any ICE car I've owned.  I'll echo concerns about manufacturer capture, though. I don't really like being linked into the Tesla network, as it were. That said many of not most modern ICE vehicles also have this problem these days.  One consideration is that there's a lot of new stuff coming up in the EV space. I've had my eyes on the Slate truck recently.

  Probably depends on where you live. There are way more tesla parts available now. Crashed cars are a great source of used parts.

  Electric car batteries easily survive 250k miles. I’ve seen people selling Teslas with 300k miles. My Model 3 has 180k miles with zero maintenance costs so far apart from tire replacements.

  I've been a passenger in my friend's Model Y once. I've also driven a C7 Corvette. No contest. I hate Elon as much as anyone with a conscience, but those motors can MOVE. It's probably the closest I'll ever come to a rocket launch with the amount of g-force you're under while it's accelerating. The fact that we were on a dark road while it was snowing only amplified the space-travel vibes 😅

  LOL, we currently own a 2007 V70 manual and love it. Planning on giving it to our child who daily's a 1991 240 sedan. We just gave our other child our 1991 VW Vanagon with > 305,000 mi. However, we did just buy a 2021 Tesla MY about two weeks ago. My husband has maintained our constantly changing fleet of old, 'interesting' vehicles for over 45 years and wants to be done lying on cold concrete garage floors. The MY is so simple and should be good for many, many years.

  Has everything we buy reduced in quality over time? Has anything increased in quality or stayed high quality and durable?

  Yup! I had a ‘14 Tesla at 235k miles. All the “maintenance” was in gizmos. Center screen, door handles, window regulator, etc. Mechanically the drive train was in incredible shape and the battery had just 15% degradation and had been at that level for the last 100k+ miles.
