Used Subzero - still tons of life left
Gaggenau is a Thermador (Bosch) and the Miele is probably made by Liebherr which is a good thing.

Dishwasher with no smart features
I have a thermador and it has an app but we've never had a desire to connect. It works perfectly fine. I think the only thing I'd use the app for is changing the LED lights to a different color. Default is blue, if I ever connect I'll change it to purple and that's probably it.

Do modern Miele, Bosch, and Huebsch/Speed Queen washing machines live up to their BIFL reputation? Or should I just get an LG instead?
We have the Thermador dishwasher and speed queen washer and dryer. Absolutely wonderful products. Only reason we went with Thermador over Bosch, we liked the quality of the racks more. Everything felt like toys compared to the Thermador.

Requesting appliance brand feedback and opinions
Thermador all the way. I have thermador 24” freezer + fridge, drawer fridge/freezer for raw meats, 48” range dual fuel so I can gas + induction and has a steam oven. Hood is amazing compared to what I used to have. Microwave and dishwasher were less important to me but stuck with thermador because of the offered deal and aesthetic. Works fine. 5 years no problems. Has been great.

Why are gas range brands like Viking, Thermador, and Bosch so much more expensive than other brands?
These are open to debate. I’d say Miele dishwashers are very good but high end Gaggenau and Thermador are as good. As far as ovens Gaggenau is better than Wolfe which is probably better than other brands. For fridges I own both a 36” French door subzero and a 36” French door Gaggenau, both less than a year old. The Gaggenau is MUCH nicer and more refined. Not even close.

In line duct / vent hood pairing
Sounds good! Seems like I should basically choose the hood I like at the corresponding 1000cfm blower.

In line duct / vent hood pairing
There are a few different variables at play. You *can* mix and match the blower and hood/insert but you may have to use a separate blower controller. If you use an approved pair, the hood might have a compatible control switch built-in and a connection that plugs directly into the blower. If not you can use one that fits into a single-gang wall box but you/your electrician will have to hook it up, or there might be some adaptation between two different connections. You are correct that you can run a 1000 cfm blower on low, but you can't run a 600 cfm blower at 1000 cfm. The big blower will likely be quieter than a smaller blower at an equivalent cfm. Above 400 cfm many jurisdictions require makeup air, however it's only a safety issue if you have combustion appliances like a fireplace, gas furnace, or water heater. Minimizing duct transitions and using the largest compatible round duct will also minimize sound and maximize airflow. In many cases if you're not going perpendicular through a wall you won't have cavity depth for a 10" round pipe so that's where the rectangular transitions come into play. Baffles are easier to clean (many are dishwasher safe) and don't impede airflow from clogging like mesh filters. A 42" insert will be more effective at capturing smoke but it won't match the width of your cooktop, though if you're building a hidden hood with casework you can make it look clean anyway.

Best induction cooktop?
The Thermador Freedom only requires a 30A circuit. We have decided to go with this model for the same reason - and because it can accommodate a large stockpot and 11' skillet at the same time.

Range cooker advice for our forever home. Overwhelmed by choices and reviews.
Induction stovetop, and electric convection stoves. The performance, efficiency and ease of use with induction is worth the price. Gas stove tops heat the entire room, inductions heat only pan. We had thermador appliances in last house and were thrilled. New house has huge “pro” gas double stove and hob with griddle and grill built in …. Hate it. Hard to clean, pot handles get hot before contents do.

Luxury Propane Range Options
The sweet spot (IMO) is both. I have two ranges (two different properties) - one gas, one electric and I think they both excel at different things. Love induction for rapidly boiling water, and love gas for general sautéing , using a wok, or being able to use nonstick aluminum pans to gently cook something like eggs where I want instant temperature control. Thermidor makes a range that has something like 4 gas and 2 induction burners which would be perfect for that preference.

Everything for a brand new appartment
I have no idea why he deleted it but here is the comment: Washer dryers - The closest to "life" i think you are going to get is either Speed Queen or Miele (of the two the Miele hands down) . If you have the electricity to power a Schulthess, its probably the best machine one the world. Ovens - Miele Cooktops - Thermador Range hoods - Vent A Hood Dishwasher - Miele - Bosch is acceptable but not its equal. For fridges/freezers - it's probably either Sub Zero, Liebherr ,or Miele. Toaster the Dualit is hard to beat

Gas range recommendations
Wow. You’re so cool. Your frugality is so impressive! We all aspire to be like you. My Miele range was $6500 brand new. A thermador spice been $5500 and included a free $1200 dishwasher. My parents have a Miele range that’s 27 years old and works like new. You always have the option of buying used/rebuilt. There’s a place near my house that specializes in this area. I buy appliances from them for my luxury rental properties. If you buy another piece of garbage like a Samsung it’s just going to break again after 6-8 years. Although, stoves aren’t complicated and can often be repaired with inexpensive parts.

Dishwasher recommendations
Another vote for Bosch. And if you don't like the label, Thermador (which is Bosch internals with a prettier UI). Due to EPA regs in effect from 2008 to roughly now, the best dishwashers are going to be either pre-08 ones or the Bosch/Thermador ones that incorporate Zeolite. For the rest of 'em, the energy budget means either water spots, ineffective cleaning, or high likelihood of breaking down.

What's the oldest appliance you own?
Thermador range and oven. Subzero fridge, KitchenAid trash compactor and Instant Hot hot water tap. All 31 years old.

The day has come, I need a new fridge.
It's really a wash when you look at GE, LG, Whirlpool, Frigidaire. If you really want something that outlasts all those brands you have to look into the high end market like Sub Zero, Monogram, Thermador. If you're going to stick with your typical brands, only buy fridges with the ice maker in the freezer, avoid water / ice dispenser in the door, and for the love of all things good, don't buy a Samsung. (Don't be like me who bought Samsung because it was cheap right out of college).
