  Thorogood boots. Made in USA, built extremely well, long-lasting, and comfortable. Most importantly: AFFORDABLE. I have a pair that have lasted for 8 years so far, and they barely look worn. Before that I had a pair that experienced very heavy use, daily wear in harsh work environments, and they lasted 3 years before they needed to be resoled. And they are DESIGNED to be resoled, as proper boots should be.

  Hey bruh, it's been a LONG time since you could get high quality boots for $150. If you want good lace up boots look into Thorogood. Kinda hard pressed to find a bifl shoe. I see people say they've had boots for like 10 years, but they obviously never wear them. Myself and the guys I work with will wear boot soles out in about a year. Thorogood is about the only one where the leather lasts that long. The cowboy wranglers are still plenty tough, you can typically get the indigo ones for like $25.

Wheb you get some money Thorogood are very good for the price and will last for a while, I've had mine for awhile and they can be repaired. If you're just looking for fashion then all of the fast fashion brands arenbgoing to hold up lol

  I’ve had these Timberland boots for over 10 grueling New England winters, still going strong

  Thorogood or Danner. Timberland Pro, the kind with the rubber reinforced toe cap and heel with the comp toe are better suited for work than the ones you have. As a teenager I wore your style of boot before working and it maybe made it 2 years before falling apart. I went through ~3-4 pairs. I will note that I spend up to around $350/pair on my boots and still buy a new pair every year or so. Aerospace machining is brutal on boots. Your style might make it 3 months at my job. If you only wear your boots for "winter conditions" and not even for work purposes, then you really shouldn't be praising them as lasting 10 years. Anything will last a long time if you only wear them a few days per year.

  Does anyone have a lifetime work boot?

  I only wear Thorogoods wedge soles (moc or plain toe, waterproof or not, steel or plain toe, lace or pull on, I’ve used em all), they’re less expensive and more American/Union Made than Red Wings or Danners. Like others have stated though, there’s no such thing as a BIFL Work Boot if you’re using them as intended. For example, I’m an Ironworker, lots of Rebar & High Steel in my line of work, meaning welding slag/sparks, sharp edges, 40+ hours a week on my feet wearing 30+ pounds of safety gear & tools. So I’m really hard on my boots, but with regular cleaning & oiling, Thorogood’s last me at least a couple years before truly needing replacement.

  Work Shoes/Redwing Boots…

  Be mindful of mobility too. If you currently or in the future could need to climb inside vehicles etc, you may want a style on the thinner or lighter side. Red Wing Thorogood and Danner usually get the most praise. I spent a while last year looking for something similar and settled on Keen. I was pretty happy with what I saw from Ariat too. When I worked in a plant where I walked the floor constantly, a few of us settled on a particular style of Rockport at the time as the most comfortable and longest lasting. I put two pairs through hell and still have them 15 years later. That’s not to say they make them like that anymore but don’t be afraid to branch out to different styles than a boot too. Personally for that, I’d look at Merrell, 5.11. Maybe try on some police or military style boots or shoes too. And if you haven’t already, Amazon try before you buy is a huge help.

  I haven’t tried red wings myself but I have a pair of Thorogood boots that I’ve worn daily on construction for the last 5 years and I had actually bought them used. I sent them back in to Thorogood for new soles and to repair stitching 2 years ago (which isn’t free but very reasonable). I use Obenauf’s “Heavy Duty LP” to condition the leather, probably not as much as I should but I notice my boots lasting much longer than other guys I work with who do not condition the leather. This is the link for the ones I have which should work for you. They have a heel and steel toe. I’ve always liked the mock toe but they have round toe options as well.   I work in the construction industry as a welder. Thorogood is the only brand of boots I will wear for work. They do have boots made in the usa and cheaper boots made overseas, I only purchase the us made ones, the overseas made boots don't seem to hold up as well. Boots with an outsole stitch can be resoled to extend their life. For laces I buy rhino laces, they can be found on Amazon. Rhino laces have outlasted every single pair of boots that I have put them in. Regular laces get eaten up by the weld spatter and sparks from welding but rhino laces hold up extremely well. The only time I had a rhino lace start to fray is when an eyelet broke and it was being rubbed on the sharp edge of the metal eyelet.

  Some notes to guide your choice:  1. The sole type and hardness will matter a lot. Hard rubber soles on concrete make the shoe feel harder, no matter what insert you use 2. There are few wide toe style steel toe boots. Your best bet is probably a boot with a moccasin style toe 3.   Any suggestions for high quality tactical platform boots like these ones?

  You might check out PNW logger boots like White’s/Hathorn, Nicks, JK Boots, maybe Thorogood. The soles are 2x stitch down and replaceable at a cobbler, and they’re hefty. Pricey but they last, some eBay pairs I’ve seen have soles that look unworn despite being 15yrs old.

  For me two main things: the lace to the toe design is as comfortable as anything I've tried and the technical design of the shoe makes it capable of everything from general hiking to daily wear to scrambling. As an added bonus they are easily the most durable footwear of any kind that I've tried. They outlast my Danner combat boots, they outlast my Thorogood work boots, the outlast my Salomon Quest/Forces,...

  Buy American! Look for re-soulable boots with a goodyear welt. My work boot collection consists of Danner's, Thorogood's, and Carolina's. It is getting increasingly hard to find made in USA boots, but even my Redwing Lineman boots are like 15 years old and I just recently had them re-glued by a cobbler last year. I had a pair of Chippewa lineman boots that saved my left foot during a motorcycle accident, but when I tried to replace those boots, they are no longer made in the USA.

  Tired of shoes lasting 6-12 months. What to get?

  The bigger problem is that people do not know or care or perform the proper maintenance of shoes or boots. They need to be cleaned with saddle soap on a regular basis, they need to be waxed/oiled, and most importantly, they need to be kept in cedar boot/shoe trees when not in use. Dirt of any kind will destroy leather due to abrasion, salt, or drying out the leather. I worked in a factory environment, recorded by pedometer at 2-4 miles daily, and I would clean monthly. Friends who were in the trades would clean weekly or more if needed. Leather needs protection, either by waxing or using mink oil, it keeps the leather subtle and prevents premature curiling. Boot/shoe trees are required. Cedar will absorb sweat and moisture and prevent curling, which keeps the boots/shoes lasting longer. I wear shoes from the San Antonio Shoe Company, their Ambassador line. My oldest pair is 13 years old, just recently factory refurbished, my second pair is from their Aden line, now going on 5 years.. My son-in-law is a pipe fitter, and his goto are Thorogood 8-onch fly boots. His current pair are now past 5 years. Also, know what you are buying, a good leather boot/shoe with Goodyear welt, and a composite or steel shank arch will always outlast a boot/shoe with no arch and a glued on sole.

  Stuff you will continue buying for life

  Thorogood steel toe boots, the pair with no laces that you pull on. $200 and have lasted through 4 years of daily abuse, and probably 4 more. More comfortable than nearly all my sneakers. I used to buy a $50 dollar pair of work boots and take them off on my lunch break, would throw out yearly and think I was getting a good deal.

Look at RM Williams, Blundstone, Red Wing or Thorogood boots. If you're on a budget then Thursdayboots. all you need is to resole it every couple of years and give the leather a bit of care, and you're good to go. unless you're working on site as a tradie.

  1.) A Martin acoustic guitar. Old, used or new. They hold their value and get better with age. Buy once cry once 2.) Good pair of leather boots. Love my Thorogood Moc-Toes 3.) Craftsman tools. All the ones I have are hand me downs that are 20+ years old but work great. Pretty sure they could be swapped out if they get broken but haven’t had an issue after 10 years of abuse 4.)   What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?

  Thorogood Moc Toe boots, both in steel toe and non-steel toe. I wear the steel toes multiple times a week going to manufacturing facilities/plants for work. Some are really dirty. I went through two pairs of cheap steel toes when I started, bought these back in 2018, and despite being dirty they’re still in great shape. Highly recommend. Oboz hiking boots. Didn’t hike a ton when I got them, and was worried I’d over paid. Now, I’ve been to Arches, Canyonlands, Joshua Tree, the Rockies, several trails in Asheville and around Seattle/Leavenworth, and a ton of local trails around me in the South. I hit one trail about twice a month on average. Put countless miles on them, and they’re still in excellent shape, and super comfortable.

  Thoughts on Thursday Boots

  I'm only commenting on this year old post because I also want to say F these boots and hope that someone reads this while trying to make their buying decision. I had a pair for a little over a year that I conditioned and cared for. One day I walked through some wet grass and the moc toe just collapsed... Maybe they were defective? Either way Thursday said take them to the cobbler and that it's "normal". Spend an extra $70 and buy some red wings, thorogoods, jim greens... really anything else.

  look for the thorogood american moc toe or the redwing american series,, long time tradesman 38 years,, a $120 set of imported wolverines from academy sports will make it a year or so, if cared for. a set of top quality american sourced and built redwings or thorogoods which will be 250 plus make no mistake will last 2 years if kept clean and dressed. ill find a boot i like and wear it for a few month till im sure its going to be comfortable and then buy a 2nd pair and rotate them out every [day.so](http://day.so) they can dry out from my sweaty feet theres 2 pairs of the thorogood moc toe steel toe boots on my rack now, theyre 4 years old and still look good. i expect at least another 2 years wear from them. they were 300 dollar boots but worth every penny in comfort and longevity. keep em cleaned and oiled and they will last a really long time.

  Actually Durable Clothing

  A year of walking will wear out the soles of any normal boot with rubber outsoles. Metal would last longer, like horseshoes, but that has other issues (weight, low friction, damage to what you walk on). So shoes for humans are typically foam or rubber. Anyone saying their boots last more than a year with original soles is probably not wearing them much (or is just very light). Boots that last long can be resoled. There is a ton of information and misinformation about this topic. My suggestion is Jim Green footwear, by far the best on the market considering their quality and cost and also ethics as a company. Best US-made option generally are Thorogoods. For clothing, as noted - washing and drying makes a big impact. Duluth and Carhartt are certainly decent - there are more durable options but these should last a while if your washing and drying is fine.

  Thorogood is the brand that my job issues me. Not this particular model, though. I hate them mostly because their wide sizes aren’t very wide, and I have feet like water skis. lol It takes me weeks to get a pair broken in, so that’s why I wear them until they fall apart. And yes, I wet the leather or use products like “Shoe Stretch” to speed up the process. Granted, I don’t shine them very often or take much care other than a quick wipe down. Also, I walk on concrete a lot, and the soles don’t last as long as you’d hope. I will say, once they are full broken in, they’re pretty comfortable.

  You might want to check out the Thorogood american heritage moc toe boots, they’re right around $200-$250 (sometimes just under on sale) and built like tanks. Made in the USA, resolable and can easily last a decade+ if you take care of them. If you widen your budget by like a $100 you can get some truly BIFL quality options like redwings

  Comfortable work boots?

  In my experience, you need to be at the $250 mark, and that was 5 years ago, so $300 is probably more likely.  That said, my buddy loves his Georgia boots that were $190.  I personally love my US made Carolina boots. I have some Thorogood boots, but they are too narrow. If they fit, I'd like them a lot better. Thorogood and Red Wing are the starting point of quality boots from what most people say. I personally like my Carolinas, but they were only $15 or 20 cheaper than the Thorogoods.   Goodyear welts and as much leather as possible is key to BIFL. Also, unless you need it for comfort, wedge soles tend to wear out. The Thorogood and Keen soles are about the best from  what I hear, but a hard leather will last longer.

  Very good quality but those soles look to be cemented on instead of stitched on. Stitched soles [welt] are the gold standard of “BIFL” boots as they can be resoled easily after they wear down. These will last a long time but you might have trouble finding someone to stick a new sole on in a few years.

  Depends a lot on what you're doing. In general I'd recommend a wedge sole and avoid things that are waterproof. Water resistant will be much more comfortable and keep the vast majority of people perfectly dry. Thorogood, Keen, Red Wing, Danner and Carolina are good choices. Nick's and White's are great choices. For casual/dress boots I'd check out Thursday Boot Company, Red Wing Iron Rangers, and Grant Stone.

  Best all day/everyday BIFL boots narrowed down between these two

  I own both of these boots. Neither are BIFL. The setters cannot be resoled, I have also found that initially very supportive midsole breaks down quickly. They become uncomfortable in a few months. The Danners fail in a very specific way because of the way the moc toe is stitched. On the Danner it is actually 2 pieces of leather stitched together and the seam is the moc part. On other moc toe boots like red wing and Thorogood the toe is one piece, with a carved ridge and the stitching is decorative. If you bang your toes or kneel a lot in the Danners you will blow out the stitches on the toe and have flappy toe box leather. All this givin the Danners are my pick. They break in quickly and the soles are soft and are great for walking and standing on concrete. I had 2 pairs of black 6” Mocs and recently bought a pair of the 8” Cristy toes. I have resoled my first pair of moc toe and glued the toe flap down twice, they still go strong after 6 years. The second pair the plastic heel cup broke and became too uncomfortable to wear. I like the Christy toe Bull Run a lot but 8” is not a casual boot. I also have a pair of black Thorogood moc toes that I like a lot. They seem to be better made than the Danners and the leather is softer, but they are heavier.

  Definitely need boots if youre in those conditions. I own a shoe store and work with the railroad and even the most hardy boots last a year or so. We mostly sell Red Wings, Timberland and Thorogood work boots. Also try Oboz hikers if you don’t want a full blown work boot.

  Thorogood boots are manufactured in the US by a union. I have a pair and they are the best pair of boots I've ever owned. I've owned Timberland Pro, Carhartt, Wolverine, and Danner boots and none of them have been better than my Thorogoods.

  Best shoes to buy???

  I would get some merino socks for starters. Smartwool, Darn Tough, Icebreaker, etc. Then I would get a pair of moc toe boots with a wedge sole. Danner Bull Run, White's Perry Select, Red Wing, Thorogood, etc. The Danners and Thorogoods feel great from the get-go, the others will take a week or two to break-in. I might consider adding a cushy insole if I felt so inclined. Then After a month or so, I would buy a 2nd pair...maybe something completely different - Lems or Xero, zero-drop maybe? I would rotate them. If they have to have safety-toes, I'd probably get another boot with a wedge sole. I work outside on a golf course year-round. I have a locker full of shoes/boots, with more in my car. Like you, I do a lot of miles on my feet. I have a lot of conditions to contend with, however, I am constantly changing my shoes. If my feet start to hurt or I don't have the right shoes on for what I need to do, I change them. I wear a pair to/from work, and might wear 3 different pair in a day. Again, being on my feet all day, I can't afford to have any issues with my feet/footwear. The only thing worse is just being cold and wet all day, lol.

  Sneakers or boots for daily wear.

  I work in a warehouse and I've worn Thorogood moc boots and Jim Green AR8's. They both hold up well, but the latter are much more comfortable due to the wider toe box. I recommend getting some aftermarket insoles like Superfeet Green and some good thick socks (I use Darn Tough Socks). Boots take awhile to break in and you will get blisters - buy some Leukotape P to help with that.

  Sneakers. I’d only recommend boots in situations where your shoes would otherwise get destroyed or you need ankle support. Wedge sole boots are kind of in the middle, soft sole for comfort, with the ruggedness and ankle support of boots. I wear Thorogoods for work. Sneakers to the gym. I only ever wear sneakers when I go to the gym. Boots everywhere else but that’s just a fashion/enjoyment thing I do, not practicality or logic

  Alright, only thing I am concerned about here is again, quality drops since in your case you originally bought your boots. Reading here for boot recommendations on other posts people have talked about Sorel boot quality dropped and going down the gutter in recent years. Definitely might grab a pair of Thorogood Genesis 6" boots though.

  I would go with Red Wings but it looks like most lines have been outsourced to other countries, and as such I am worried about the quality possible having dropped. Thorogoods look good but I'm just worried about their winter abilities, as I plan to use these boots for daily use, so that way I can get good traction on concrete, mud, and ice should the need arise.

  This will be such a debated post but here I have two brands that are going somewhere between 26 and 32 years. Red Wings and Thorogood. They’ve done me well all these years and have never had a need to look elsewhere.

  Add in Thorogood, I've had Red Wings and Ariat but Thorogood have lasted longer and have been better for long days on my feet. Can't attest to Danner, I have not had a pair.

  Thorogood Has some good work boots. 10% off on amazon right now. American made as well. I know Redwings work boots are made in China and fall apart. My Brother in-law just bought some through work and the front part of the sole is already peeling off.
