  I recommend a brand called Porter. They are a japanese brand, make their stuff in Japan, and their stuff last basically forever. They are on the premium side of things. If not, anything from Thule.

  Babyjogger. Even easily converts to two kids while being relatively compact. Thule or BOB if you’re active, but they are big.

  I skipped a stroller and only got a Thule jogger. I didn't want two different strollers... they take up so much room and a jogger does everything a stroller does and more.

  We bought the Thule Spring. It has car seat attachments you can purchase separately and then when old enough they can be forward facing. We’re pretty active so a three wheels stroller worked well for us. Bonus is that it’s not super heavy and easy to fold! I looked at BOBs but could lift them myself. We’re currently using ours with our 3+ old and it’s practically still new!

  Uppababy Cruz. Vista imo is too big and even if you end up having more kids it’s still huge and awkward. Even the Cruz I find too big sometimes and heavy. We used it w the Clek liing. My daughter is 2 and still using it (except in the winter when it sucks lol). (For context we ended up w 3 strollers lol - we also have bugaboo butterfly for travel and quick trips like mall and zoo, and Thule urban glide for winter).

  Best bifl for bag in this style? A lot seem mass produced and poor quality

  I am using a Thule Accent right now for 2 years. Its a solid backpack for a pretty reasonable price. Really solid fabric and looks like day one.

  I love my Jansport too. I would also say Thule, as I’ve had nothing but good luck with them. Only had one loss and it was my fault - I ripped it accidentally with my gutting knife.

  Thule Escort 2. Lot of space, great quality, well priced. I really like the Peak Design Every Day backpack too. It's pretty pricey, but the access and organization is fantastic, which I love for my work.

  Best of luck. My last recommendation over the tomtoc would be Thule. They make some extremely high quality bags if you don’t mind the synthetics. By that same token Mystery Ranch is probably even better than Thule, but very different looks. One last plug for Fjallraven: since you mentioned they have a store near you, if you want your bag waxed they will do it for you at the store for free, whenever you want (same with jackets and pants and stuff). And they also do repairs for cheap, usually in their stores. So ask if they have a repair shop in your store and you might be set for good.

  Need Help Choosing a Backpack

  Swiss albeit are known to show a lot of failure on the zippers have a lot of designated space, not as much storage opportunity but are definitely decently durable I would go with a Jansport, especially considering price, but Thule also has a good selection that kind of meets in the middle as far as individual storage options and durability all around. Can’t speak for Thule personally but I have had the former backpacks and both are going strong for 15 years +. Really the best option ove had though is a hand me down leather bag. Sure it’s not vegan if that’s a concern but leather is a very durable material and the copper and brass fittings are 60-70 years old. It really all depends on your price range. But if you can make your wallet cry once knowing you’ll get a bifl I really think leather and other versatile dry bags are very suiting as far as durability. If you can give a bit a more specific price range I’m sure there’s a lot of people who could give you options based on your range.

  Very happy with my Thule. It has a good balance of organization and separate large spaces for bigger gear/clothes. Most other backpacks I've seen either waste way too much space with organization or seem to have no smaller pockets at all

  Luggage (again!) but deciding what to buy is only half the battle

  Osprey, Patagonia and North Face, Thule allhave excellent "luggage" . All extremely durable and come with a lifetime warranty. Better than any traditional luggage I've ever seen if you're OK with their look and philosophies.

  Stroller Recommendations

  We had a Nuna that was good, but then I rented a Bob jogger on vacation and fell in love with it. I ended up buying a Thule Jogger which is going strong with kid number 2, but the Bob is a great choice too. Joggers are just better with different terrain, hop curbs easy, and are simple. The Nuna was great if you're on a smooth sidewalk or something and had too many plastic parts

  Stroller Recommendations

  You're going to have trouble with this for multiple reasons. 1. Budget - $500 is pretty low for a durable stroller. Most will be closer to $700-$1200. Although I did see that Thule Urban Glide 2 is on sale at Amazon right now for under $500 2. Purpose - jogging, travel, compact, all terrain, newborn-toddler, single, double, tandem... there are a million types of strollers that all serve a different purpose. Those purposes may seem silly now, but they do matter. 3. Kids' preferences - your kid may HATE whatever stroller you choose making it a total waste of money. Like I got a single stroller that could be converted into a double (SilverCross Wave). My first loved it. Used it everywhere, then my second came and they DESPISED being front/back. We had to buy a side-by-side stroller so they could see each other (Zoe Twin) - -Another note is that a lot of jogging strollers (which is what you should look at if you want all-terrain), are meant to only be used from 6-9+ months. You may be able to find one with a car seat adapter, but not a newborn bassinet. Jogging strollers will also be heavier, bulkier, and not fold as compactly - so make sure it will fit in your car or home storage. The good news is there are always a ton of jogging strollers available used on FB marketplace. I've gone through 5 strollers and wagons in three years (SilverCross Wave, SilverCross Jet, Wagonfold W4, Zoe Twin, and a jogging stroller) My recommendation would be to get a travel stroller that has a lay-flat seat and is compatible with your newborn car seat, get through postpartum, let baby develop some head control, and THEN get a jogging stroller.

  What is a BIFL item/product you recommend?

  I’ve got a Tom Bihn side kick bag for sale 😂 definitely bifl just don’t buy too many like me…not sure if it will be bifl but I use my aeropress daily and have for the past few years and it’s in great shape, they make a glass/metal version now and that’s probably what I will get if mine was to break. My Briggs Riley suitcase has a lifetime warranty and I have been very impressed with it so far, I have the two wheeled cabin bag and use Thule compression cubes that are very sturdy and might be as close to bifl as you can get for compression cubes.

  just a heads up, the main compartment is convertible between divided and undivided. The divisor is quite well designed to unzip and fold into an internal pocket, giving you the full interior's worth of unobstructed space. It makes for a great travel backpack. That said, I wouldn't recommend the covert for EDC, and to clarify: I brought up the Covert to highlight the Aspect's side access feature as being extremely convenient, based on my experience.

  What’s one product you bought that has lasted forever and was totally worth it?

  My Thule Subterra backpack. It has been all over the world for travel, in harsh conditions, on boats, in the snow, on safari in Africa... but it has also been carried to my office daily, on planes, road trips, etc. I've had it for several years and it still looks brand new.
