  Of course no shoes are going to last a lifetime but I’m trying to build a pretty good collection (are made in Japan converse worth it?)

  The Birkenstocks, I believe, are your only BIFL item here (I hear they are resoleable thus you’ll get good mileage from them). For sneakers, you’re pretty much screwed. I’ve done a bit of research on this front and there are only a few companies that make repairable sneakers, all of which charge way too much to make it worthwhile (unless you’re rich, which if you are: can I have some money?). For the boots, however, Blundstones are arguably your worst offenders here becuase you have options. I love the look of Blundstones and from what I hear they’re also really comfortable and durable—my wife has a pair that she has beaten to hell and they are still going strong 7 years in. In spite of their really good build, they are still not resoleable and thus are doomed to the landfill. Even the Blundstone website says that because of the way the sole is made to be comfortable and durable, the process makes them nearly impossible to replace. It’s basically the same story as with sneakers, except for the fact that you do have plenty of alternatives for boots that can last you a lifetime. Goodyear welted boots are easily resoled by any cobbler worth their salt, and there is no shortage of options. I myself have 4 pairs of boots*, all of which are Goodyear welted and have taken their respective beatings in stride. For something in a similar look and price range to Blundstone, I suggest looking at the boots sold on Huckberry (I own a pair of Rhodes Boone Lug chelseas that I love), or Thursday Boots (they have two chelseas that would stand in for the Blundstones really nicely: the Legend and the General Purpose, with the latter being really close to a Blundstone clone). Obviously you already own a pair of Blunnies, OP, so I say use them to their fullest and take good care of them, and they’ll still last you a good long while—not BIFL but pretty close. When the time comes, I recommend you look into GYW boots for their replacement. *For anyone curious, my goodyear welt collection includes the aforementioned Rhodes Boone Lug Chelseas from Huckberry. These are new and I am still breaking them in, but even with the necessary discomfort that comes during the breaking in period of new boots, they’re pretty great so far. I also have a pair of Thursday wingtip boots for a dressier option, which I’ve had for about 8 years, a pair of Red Wing Chukkas that I’ve had for 7 years, and a pair of Chippewa Boots from 2015 that are only now due for a resoling. Chippewa is the only brand I wouldn’t recommend because it appears they’ve gone in a different direction with their products in the last 10 years and the stuff I see on their site does not resemble my boots in quality or style.

  Looking for new boots like this

  I like my captains, but I probably wish I'd gotten iron rangers. I had to size up though. I also found their wide to be...not wide, so I had a cobbler give em some stretch.

  Looking for quality wide casual/dress men's boots. GYW.

  I really like my Thursday Captains. I will say, that even though I got the wide, they're still quite narrow. I got them stretched by a cobbler and now they're perfect.

  Thursday Boots are a good choice in your price range. I've had my pair of their flagship boot for almost 4 years now and wear em almost every day, had them resoled once
