  I have a fuzzy logic Tiger that also takes 45 minute for a couple of rice-cooker-cups, but that includes the 30' soaking. Fast mode is like 20'.

  We've got a Tiger that's been passed down to us. My spouse's mother bought it ~30 years ago and the only part we had to replace was the condensation collector that fell down the garbage disposal. Tiger still sold us the exact replacement part. Perfect rice every time

  Is $75 fair for this Zojirushi Rice Cooker from FB Marketplace? It seems the pot needs to be replaced soon.

  Granted it's been a while since I bought mine, but isn't this a fairly low end model that cost around the same new? Factor in a new liner pot and you've definitely passed it. Costco sells a tiger (made in Japan?) model around $80 I believe.

  Tiger Rice Cooker - 20 years and still going strong

  If you're comparing apples to apples, [the one switch Tiger rice cooker with the flower design](https://www.tiger-corporation.com/en/usa/product/rice-cooker/jnp-0550-1000-1500-1800/) compared to the [one switch Zojirushi rice cooker with the flower design,](https://store.zojirushi.com/products/nsrpc) they're pretty much literally equal. I for the life of me couldn't tell the difference between rice cooked in either of them. There's only two differences between them. The Tiger has a retractable cord that winds back up into the unit itself, whereas the Zojirushi has a detachable cord. The Tiger is made in Japan (although made in China models may exist too) whereas the Zojirushi is made in Thailand. So unless you strongly prefer one cord design over the other (Both cord designs are fantastic and will literally last you decades) or are only considering buying a Made in Japan rice cooker, the Tiger with the flower design or the Zojirushi with the flower design are literally equal.

  Costco has this rice cooker - the brand is Tiger. It’s usually $99 but they put it on sale for $69. While not as good as some other rice cookers out there, it is a decent one!

  I know it’s against the spirit of this sub, but rice cookers shouldn’t be that reliable, lol. I have this basic Tiger rice cooker for like 20 years and it just won’t break. That’s why my wife forbidden me from buying another one. But it struggles with cooking brown rice or multigrain stuff those new and fancy ones can do better🤣🤣

  Does anyone else feel like it's impossible to buy quality stuff anymore? Seems like every single thing I buy falls apart absurdly fast. I try to get quality stuff, but reviews are all fake, star ratings are bought... how do you avoid buying junk?

  Really depends on what I'm buying, sometimes you just know what is good simply being interested in the space so you absorb information over time. I'm very much into cooking and recently have been looking for a rice cooker, bought a Tiger because I know they are one of the best even if they aren't cheap. Otherwise, I overdo my research even on a $100 purchase because I hate looking like a fool, lol.

  Did you find a good one with a decent keep warm for a few days? We have two zojirushis and they are trash at keep warm. Thinking of going back to tiger because that’s what I remember my family using and it kept rice perfect at keep warm for daysss

  Stainless steel sticks and hard to clean. Tiger use ceramic inner pot which is non toxic nd easy to clean. Problem is heavier and fragile.

  I mean, I used my old one for almost 15 years before finally making the jump. There was nothing wrong with the Aroma one, and it made wonderful rice. It's better with the Zojirushi, but it's not like it's anything but a luxury at this point. That being said, they seem to be pretty BIFL, and I've heard of people having luck finding them cheap at garage sales and stuff. My mom actually has a Tiger rice cooker that she bought in Japan when we lived there.... in 1990. She's still using it to this day, so I would definitely trust those brands used.

  I didn't either until my boyfriend moved in with his rice cooker. It made rice consistently delicious and fool proof. And that was with a push-button Tiger. Fast forward to now and we have Zojirushi and the rice is at a whole new level. The flavors are more complicated and the consistency/texture is incredible too. Thank being said, you can find a Cookoo rice cooker for $60 on sale and it's worth it.

  I just recently upgraded from an Aroma rice cooker that I bought in 2010 to a Zojirushi, the induction model. The Aroma definitely made rice, and made it well enough. It still works fine, and I used it regularly. We only upgraded recently because I have always wanted a Zojirushi and we found one on sale. The difference in rice quality is night and day. I would not be able to (happily) go back to the Aroma. I don’t know how to describe it, but the rice I have been eating over the last few weeks has been so much better. At very least, it isn’t nearly as mushy as the Aroma was. (And I have experimented with water levels a LOT over the last decade and a half.) So I’d take it a slight step further and say that if all you can afford is a $20 rice cooker, it’s absolutely going to be fine. But if you can afford a nicer Tiger or Zojirushi, it is absolutely worth the price difference and then some.

  it’s shocking to me the amount of people who are unaware or unwilling to buy off marketplace. I life in a very wealthy neighborhood as a lower to middle income for my area earner. The shit you’d see listed for free or pennies on there would make your heart drop. Got a brand new cusinart juicer ($160), tiger rice cooker ($120), and a norditrak stationary bike ($1k+) all very lightly used for $90 TOTAL. Rich people are crazy

  Any Made in Japan rice cooker will last a lifetime. Just get whatever is cheaper. Zojirushi is good, but the price is too expensive. I have one for 10 years. My parents and GF both have Tigers. One is at 20 years (one button model), the other is 8 years. If my zojirushi ever dies, I'll buy a tigers next

  Gyudon is great. Steamed eggs is also a winner in my household. I chose the Tiger over the Zojirushi. In Japan, though most consider the Zojirushi as “better”, most of my Japanese coworkers admit they’re about the same.

  I have the Tiger. Use it often. Have used the orange steaming tray to cook a decent amount of things with the rice: broccoli, carrots, other veggies, eggs. I sometimes synchro cook a gyudon recipe to eat with the rice and it’s very easy!

  I have a similar Tiger model that I bought from Walmart for $50 from the clearance aisle. This was around 2016. It just works every time. As long as both are made in Japan, it doesn’t really matter which one you get. They will both be bifl.

  I have that Tiger model, and have owned Zujis in the past. No discernible differences tbh, just get whichever you like the look of better. Plenty of people just buy the Zoji because it is perceived as the best, but plenty of companies make great rice cookers.

  I got a zojirushi for our wedding and it lasted 5 years before it died. We replaced it with a tiger from Costco 6 years ago and it’s still going strong. In the period after we switched I missed the zojirushi but at this point I can’t remember. I think either way you’ll be happy, both are way better than any other rice cooker I’ve used.

  Both of these are old-fashioned models by Japanese standards (the Micom rice cooker was introduced in 1979). Zojirushi is the industry leader in Japan but Tiger is close behind. I doubt that you could tell the difference if you made a blind comparison.

  I have that Tiger model you’re looking at, bought it from Costco over the summer. I’ve used it tons, rice comes out perfect each time. Very easy to clean the bowl with some soap and water. I don’t do anything fancy with it but it gets the job done perfectly for what I use it for, no issues yet.

  Got the Tiger one for prolly 200 bucks 13 years ago. It worked great but the interior coating was coming off. I was afraid of the toxic chemicals so I switched to instant pot with just a stainless steel pot. It could do so much more for cheaper.
