  I’ve had good luck with timberlands and I’m now a fan of Uggs also. I got timberlands at Designer Shoe Warehouse which is great for cheap and i got two nice pairs of Uggs men’s boots both new for under $20 at a thrift store. So I highly recommend looking around at discount stores and thrifting. Full retail is for like millionaires. TJ max Ross Marshall’s Nordstrom Rack DSW Burlington Coat Factory places like that is where to get some good deals on nice quality stuff.

  Work boots in the 150 USD range, with and without toe protection

  Red Wing boots are garbage compared to what they used to be. It used to be almost a no brainer that Red Wing was the gold standard. Now they are merely "standard". And the majority of their models these days are direct attach, which for anybody looking for something with actual quality is a no go because they are mostly all garbage regardless of brand and are unlikely to last more than a year regardless of what brand or model you buy. Especially Keen. I wouldn't take a pair of those if you gave them to me for free. I'd have recommended sticking to the higher end models by Georgia boot, Timberland Pro, Chippewa, and only stitched models, no direct attach, or if you want an ACTUAL very high quality boot, then look at White's boots which are hand made and a lot more of a BIFL boot than pretty much anything else out there.

  I bought mine about 15 years ago and they’re still going strong. I’ve had to replace the laces a couple of times but the boots still have a few more years left. BTW, I don’t drive, don’t have a desk job and I wear them all winter. The newer timberland boots are terrible, apparently.

  Thorogood or Danner. Timberland Pro, the kind with the rubber reinforced toe cap and heel with the comp toe are better suited for work than the ones you have. As a teenager I wore your style of boot before working and it maybe made it 2 years before falling apart. I went through ~3-4 pairs. I will note that I spend up to around $350/pair on my boots and still buy a new pair every year or so. Aerospace machining is brutal on boots. Your style might make it 3 months at my job. If you only wear your boots for "winter conditions" and not even for work purposes, then you really shouldn't be praising them as lasting 10 years. Anything will last a long time if you only wear them a few days per year.

  i got the pro line soft toe pitboss boots about a year ago. i dont work daily in them though. Theyre for yard work, lawn mowing, landscaping, chopping wood, rain etc. i know its only a year, but so far they have been awesome for what i got them for. I might be looking for proper hard tow work boots in the spring and really dont know what to get

  That’s awesome. I’ve got some Timberland Earthkeepers from ‘08 that I’ve put through hell. I wore them somewhat frequently in the early mid 2010s, but mostly indoors or on trails, not on rough concrete. I don’t hike on them anymore and are regulated mostly to work around the house. The uppers aren’t too bad but the soles are looking a bit rough and mids are packed in at this point. I could probably put some inserts in to make them comfortable and still get a decent life span out of them for their current use.

  That's sad - I'm similar to OP in that I've had my Timberlands for around 10 years and they've been heavily used. They're still going strong but I was thinking about picking another pair up when these start to fail. Is there any other brands available in the UK with a similar style?

  Bunch of weird haters in this thread lmao I work in construction and have had a pair of classic timbs I’ve worn ~100 days a year whenever I knew I didn’t need steel toes that day. Wore them all over NE and the upper Midwest before I moved to the southwestern US and they basically look like this since I clean and treat them every year.

  Preach man. I’ve also got a pair of timbs going on 12 years old. Worn each winter out in the Colorado Rockies around snow and wood covered property. Keep my feet warm and dry, and still keep plugging on while I chop wood, shovel snow or generally walk around in icy conditions. I think some people are just really rough on their things.

  6+ years on Timberland Boots

  Probably in 2015/2016 Timberland still made decent boots, before replacing the leather insoles with compressed cardboard and save money on the other materials. I own two pair of 80’s Made in USA boots and they are great. Leather inside, waterproof, insulated (went in Poland in wintertime at -11 degrees and did not feel cold once) and strong long lasting outsoles. No red wing, no Danner and no Thorogood have the same features these Timberland have.

  Is there a name for brands that only focus on highest quality?

  Luxury means exclusive most of times. I see luxury itens to be more conceptual rather than functional. It's ostentation, not purpose. Most common life time brands - le creuset - timberland - the north face ( Not all countries have the same quality products) Look for military gadgets, camping gear for extreme weather. Even clothes. Furniture - my advice is to check thrift stores and find the ones with great wood that survived decades; handles, knobs and hinges are probably falling apart, varnish probably blistering. Look for potential, not aesthetic. You can fiz furniture aesthetic, not structure.

  I don’t buy them anymore. Tried a pair of no name brand from Amazon  for $60 about 8 years ago and they are still going strong. Noticed there’s a nice pair from timberland pro that I think I’ll grab ($119 on sale) and move these to my yard work fit.

  What’s the BIFL item that you love but everyone around you thinks is ridiculous?

  They aren't ridiculous, but people think it's weird I'll have shoes for 10+ years. I always get compliments on my light brown suede Original Penguin chukkas I got at DSW 14 years ago. I had them cleaned recently and couldn't be happier with them. I also have a brown leather Timberland belt about 15 years old. It cost $20 then, it cost $20 now. I liked it so much I bought it in black and another shade of brown. It just gets softer with time, and it's only 1 layer of leather, no double side, no padded leather. So there's no stitching to worry about other than the hefty amount to secure the fold around the buckle. Best casual belts ever. I liked them so much when I lost 80 lbs I cut one down and made my own new holes.

  Nice looking men's boots that will work in an office, but stand up to Chicago winters

  Timberland cortina valley Chelsea boots. They’ve stopped making them but can get them new off of eBay. My sil and I both purchased pairs of them in November 2021. From when I purchased them to April 2023, I worked retail and they were my everyday winter shoe or the same reason. They have good tread and never had water come inside them. The exterior still looks great, just some scuffs on the toes my stupid klutz nature. I’ve been meaning to use boot polish on em. I’m just replacing the interior insoles now.

  Are the Timberland greyfield boots durable for regular wear?

  I tried them on in store today and walked out with them! They are super lightweight if that's important to you. I'm usually a 37.5 in Tims but needed a 38. It's not as wide as the classic boot but still comfortable. Zero break in time needed. I literally skipped out of the store.

  I forgot the one I had for a couple decades but it was from somewhere silly like sport check. Then I found a timberland one for super cheap at a Nordstrom rack 7 years ago and its like the day I got it. That's one of the only things I've had good luck with.

  Honestly, the $14 Timberland belt I buy at Marshall’s is a one solid piece of top grain leather. No vinyl coating like yours, not bonded like Levi’s belts. Just one piece of leather and it lasts years. I’ve had mine for more than 5 years and I wear it every single day. It’s still for sale there. They always have it in stock.

  Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!

  The two socks that I have recently purchased and loved are Stance socks, and Bioaum athletic socks. They fit really nice and are super comfy. I have narrower feet than most people though, so I wonder if that factors into it at all. I hope they last a long time. In terms of socks I have owned for a long time that have held up: Timberland crew socks have survived a lot of yardwork, caving, and hiking adventures.

  They’ve gone all-in on wrinkle free no iron crap for a lot of their shirts, which contain a lot of polyester and coatings. In my experience they don’t last long anymore, and they still wrinkle. I have boots from 2010ish made in Maine, and they’ve held up pretty well. I find that the soft rubber chain tread soles wear pretty quickly, but they’re made to be resoled

  Might seem odd but I like my workboots. I bought a pair of Timberland Nashoba slip-on boots. They look pretty good, are easy to take on and off, and I do 10-15k steps a day in them. I will say this though, you've gotta give it a couple of days before you go on a trip or something and let yourself build up some callouses on the heel. Once I was there, man, these boots are amazing.

  Handheld game consoles- one could. I found my Nintendo DS after more than a YEAR of being unplugged and it still had > warning level charge. My first Gen Switch Lite would, at first, hold a charge with active play for at least six hours, turned off maybe a 10-14 days. It stopped holding a charge and i broke it trying to replace the battery, so I bought another one. This one barely holds out for four-ish hours actively playing the same games at the same brightness i used to. Will hold a charge turned off for maybe a week. Also clothing brands that were originally considered mid-scale but are now lower-scale but still have brand recognition like Liz Claiborne. I have a pair of 80s LC suede pumps that are just terrific- real leather outsole, made in Spain, very comfortable. Wouldn't waste my money on LC shoes or clothes now. I do have to stan my Timbs though. Yes, their "fashion" styles tend not to be as sturdy (though I do have what would be considered a fashion boot style and they're 11+ years old and going strong with typical maintenace) , but their hiking and workwear boots are great. I had my first pair for 15 years and only do not have them anymore because i left them in a rental car last year. I bought another pair and they're just as good.

  Timberland might not be buy it for life any more but I have a pair of their boots (not the typical style ones) that have been going on years now, they’re not my work boots but are worn a lot. I also bought a pair for work that lasted about four times longer than the Magnums the company supplies, we walk about 75-100 miles or so a week.  I remember years ago being told some years ago Magnums were good quality and lasted a long time but I find they’re ruined in a couple of months.  Also New Rock boots. I have a pair of New Rocks from some time around the late 90s-Early 2000s. They’re still in excellent condition. I replaced the laces (but it was only because I wore them to prom and wanted purple laces to match my clothes then never changed them back!) and whoever owned them before me removed a logo but other than that, they’re perfect. I got given another pair of New Rocks from about 2008. They’ve definitely not got the same quality soles and have shown their wear but have only just started to crack. My partner has bought several pairs of New Rocks since 2011, the soles last like 2 years at most. It’s like there’s a timeline of their downgrades sitting on my shoe rack.

  Looking for water proof work shoes/boots

  I’ve recently purchased five pairs of Timberland pro flex. I love them. I’ve got one for each day of the work week. Super comfortable, most of them are waterproof and you cannot tell that you’ve been on your feet 10 hours wearing these shoes. They are absolutely the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had.

  I’m sad to hear this. I have a pair of Timberland’s I’ve worn the snot out of for over a decade and I was just noticing while camping this weekend that it’s time to put a new sole on the heel (I have a hard left side heel strike to my walk). But the boots, including the wood heel are still very solid.

  There are Timberland pro boots that are Goodyear Welted, can be resoled, and are worn by tradesmen. Even higher end books like Redwings/ Irish setters, etc. may only last one or two seasons if constantly wet and not properly dried, oiled, or cared for.

  Same here. Everyone saying a single daily pair of shoes can't last more than a year hasn't owned a pair of Timberlands original full grain leather boots. I've recently replaced my mostly daily 6+ year old boots with a brand new pair, but the new one is just for looks and for SHTF events. The only pair of shoes I'd trust for a zombie apocalypse. My old pair is still heavily used for rough trekking in sand, snow, mud, etc. It just needs a cleaning and wax every several months or so. Not the same style OP is looking for, but it works for me. At this point I cycle through several pairs of different shoes but none will last as long as my last pair of Timberlands. For OP's style preference, Thursday boots are great but won't last nearly as long.

  Stuff you will continue buying for life

  Aveeno shaving cream will last me approx three months and I follow up with Nivea shave balm, which lasts about four months T-shirts and jeans are purchased at Ross Dress For Less. Jeans: $12; Ts $7 (less when on sale). Both last about a year or slightly more. Work boots: Timberland: $130 (up from $100) and last approximately five years or more. Socks and underwear: whatever and whenever on sale and cost $20 for 5 pair and lasts five years. Sheets: used to buy the best but now buy whatever is on sale. They last seven years or more. Everything depends on how clothing and accessories are washed. i.e. water temperature, how clothing is placed in the washer and how much. Care of clothing extends its life

  This is going to be super unstylish “dad” advice but I wear a pair of black Timberland Pros steel toe shoes casually everyday and they look indistinguishable from brand new after 3+ years! Will probably be good a decade or longer. Side note: I do have dedicated hiking shoes so the shoes don’t experience any of the super dirty/rough style.

  Safety working boots help.

  I love my Timberland boondocks. 9” high. The black ones are warm and waterproof. Not too warm, when it’s 35° on a roof, but warm to wear as winter boots in Canada. I’ve also got a pair of the brown ones which aren’t waterproof or insulated. They both have a composite toe which makes them lighter and less influenced by heat or cold. I’ve been wearing them for over 10 years. My last pair was still good and comfortable after three years, but since work pays for them yearly I decided it was time. I have them stored just in case I need to go to the rendering plant (ewww) so I don’t wreck my daily pair. They aren’t cheap at about $300 and I regularly walk 5km in them plus ladders. My biggest day was 11,4 km according to my phone. Everything hurt but my feet.

  Actually Durable Clothing

  I like Timberland jeans and the ones I look for have Cordura woven into them - and a special tag on the inside so it’s easy to tell. They don’t really feel any different but I haven’t managed to get a hole in any of them yet.

  It sounds like you need something really durable. You might want to try Timberland PRO or Red Wing shoes. They’re made for tough, physical work environments and should hold up much better over time.

  [Request] Shoes that last longer than 5 months for people who actually work physical jobs?

  Definitely need boots if youre in those conditions. I own a shoe store and work with the railroad and even the most hardy boots last a year or so. We mostly sell Red Wings, Timberland and Thorogood work boots. Also try Oboz hikers if you don’t want a full blown work boot.

  I thrifted some timberlands a few years back that were roomy enough for nice insoles. Still going strong as my fall/winter boots. Otherwise, I have just gritted through the Dr Martens break in period by putting bandaids on my ankles. One of their new styles though is AMAZING easy to wear right away and they feel SO stable to walk in due to the wide sole. It's the dmxl chelsea. I love these boots so much. I do also have a pair of chelsea boots from franco sarto that have held up very well. I dont quite remember the style name though because its been years and I'm sure they dont make the exact same ones anymore.

  Lodge cast iron skillet - grandma hand-me-down from the 50's. Timberland bookbag - 1997 Parent's pull out sofa - 1980's Sony Plasma TV - 2000's heavy as heck but still trucking along in the basement.. Classic NES - 80's one day my kids will appreciate it with the gun and gamepad in the 2030's, WILD!

  My friend goes through shoes/boots within a couple months, are there comfortable, lifetime quality options for restraunt workers in the 300usd range? Please advise, thank you

  Timberland Pro They arent quite BIFL durable, but are for sure above average for durability. But, they are extremely comfortable to wear all day every day. As a bonus they have steel/alloy toes and most have soles that are electrically insulated enough that you can touch a live 120VAX wire and not get electricuted (dont intentionally do this of course). they are usually in the $100-159 range, but Ive seen them on amazon for significant discount. I managed to recently snag a couple of pairs for $25 and $40 each. So that $300 ciould potentially buy enough pairs to last for many years to come.

I think fine shoes and boots that are made well, whether affordable or expensive, should be celebrated and cherished. Work boots and even select sneakers are a part of that too! There's a pair if badass Oak Tree boots I'm a huge fan of, the *[Trench Boot in Whitewash Overdye Abetone, Commando Sole](https://oakstreetbootmakers.com/trench-boot-whitewash-overdye-abetone-commando-sole)*, but limited/sold out (😭). Though I'm unsure if they work with what I wear, I think they are just badass! Maybe I'll add a pair to my collection if they come up again. Clarks and Timberland are ace choices too, which models do you have? I also like Cheaney & Sons too, but Crockett & Jones are my ultimate fav bootmakers for quality and price, with my aspirational favourites being Gaziano & Girling (UK), Yohei Fukuda (JP), and Siroeno Yosui (JP) (checkout there [YT channel](https://youtube.com/@ken_kataoka) for ASMR traditional Japanese shoemaking craftsmanship!).
