  Backpack suggestions?

  If you’re using it for school, Swissgear makes affordable, versatile backpacks with a lot of pockets for one thing or the next. I had one that lasted me 10 years before starting to rip. Ogio makes really good backpacks for office and school too. Mines lasted 5 years so far with a good amount of abuse and weight. But I find their stuff to be more expensive. There are plenty of other options that make more specialized backpacks. Outdoor/travel brands: osprey, north face, Cotopaxi. Travel specific: aer, tortuga, matador, evergoods,: the list goes on. I find these aesthetic but I think I would have preferred the extra pockets and all where I find these other brands make really nice bags for large compartments with some organization pockets that might be good for minimal use of office supplies and more packing space. Some of the smaller commuter backpacks might be good to use for school. But I still love my Ogio renegade for standard use with way too many pockets. I have a glasses case on top for my safety glasses. Two zip pockets on each side for everyday carry stuff. Water bottle pockets. One of the water bottle pockets holds zip ties and twisty ties. Laptop and folders of course. Main pocket holds all my bulky stuff. Two secondary pockets: one holds all my Office supplies. The other holds flatter objects that I need separated from everything else for one reason or the next. Unfortunately this is padded which you don’t like.

  What’s something you’ve bought once and never had to replace?

  Tortuga backpack, have had it for 10 yrs, spent multiple years backpacking globally with it, lent it out for a shorter backpack trip, use it for camping, hiking, as luggage for work trips and vacations etc.

  The Best Backpacks for Travel Available Now?

  I just went through this process again the last several days preparing for an international trip at the end of the month. I can say at least for me, it was essentially down to the Aer TP3 and the Tortuga Travel Pro 40L. I went with the latter, but can’t comment on it yet for others since I haven’t taken the trip yet.

  The Best Backpacks for Travel Available Now?

  So the fundamental question that matters with a backpack is what do you intend to carry (and the related question is for how long). I have had several backpacks but I finally have one (two-ish that I like). Tom Bihn, Synik 26 (middle size but holds a laptop in its own compartment). Most important features of this bag to me, it can take a hip belt and it has a luggage handle passthrough. While not the biggest, the hip belt helps with a full backpack. Also it has a boat load of pockets. Tortuga laptop backpack - bought this before Tom Bihn release the Synik 26. It is a good back but misses the hip belt and the luggage pass through was a bit skimpy. The wife uses this as her normal work bag and she seems to have warmed up to it. Patagonia Refugio 26. It works as a backpack. Not my favorite though but it works well in a hurry, especially if we don't feel like unloading our work bags. However the most important question is how much do you plan to carry. My primary use case is day use, but I bought the Synik 26 to pair with a rolling carry on for travel and also for a day hike in the mountains. The others are fine bags and all my bags hold about the same amount of stuff, change of clothing and creature comforts for a long flight (as I said, the rolling carry on does he heavy lifting). Would honestly recommend all of the above. From your list Osprey makes great bags (they were bought in 2021 by Helen of Troy which owns other brands that seem to have maintained their quality but there is definitely a push to scale) as I have several of them for hiking. My carry on is a Briggs and Riley and it is a great bag, and I know they make backpacks too, they just weren't my cup of tea, but I would expect their quality to be great (and an amazing warranty). I think Tumi is a poor allocation of resources. I looked at the Nomatic and Aer bags, and they didn't check my boxes, but people liked them.

  Best backpack for everyday use and for travel

  For everyday use, I’d suggest the **Nomatic Backpack**. It’s sleek, versatile, and comfortable, with a lot of organizational pockets and compartments. It’s not too bulky but still fits everything I need for work, the gym, or a quick errand run. The **Tortuga Outbreaker** is another one I’ve looked at. It’s slightly larger but has fantastic organization and is built to last.
