  When we visit friends in the UK they always request the following: ranch dressing packets, Tylenol, ibuprofen, tums, a specific bbq sauce that is local to us, and a few spice blends they like

  Meta: Can we stop with the "but its all made in the same factory" BS

  Obviously it was a generalization, but for the most part it's true. Why buy Tylenol when you can buy acetaminophen for cheaper? As far as the buffers/other, I think this is primarily a way to keep patents going rather than to benefit the consumer, though there are exceptions, I'm sure.
