What do you guys think of UGG blankets? Is it good?
I have slept with one every single night (very very rarely not slept with it, if I did I was traveling and forgot it) I wash it very often and it still looks the same as a I bought it! It was a gift back in 2018, so it has lasted with almost daily use and weekly washing for 7 years now. I'm not sure the exact throw exists anymore, but it's a polyester blanket. I do only now purchase more sustainable materials but I refuse to give up this blanket ! Lol

The 21st Century Ruined Everything 😭
I’ve had good luck with timberlands and I’m now a fan of Uggs also. I got timberlands at Designer Shoe Warehouse which is great for cheap and i got two nice pairs of Uggs men’s boots both new for under $20 at a thrift store. So I highly recommend looking around at discount stores and thrifting. Full retail is for like millionaires. TJ max Ross Marshall’s Nordstrom Rack DSW Burlington Coat Factory places like that is where to get some good deals on nice quality stuff.

Is a heated blanket really worth investing in for long-term use?
This doesn’t answer your heated blanket question, but… Our family has settled on Ugg brand comforters as being incredibly warm. This season we’ve already had mornings as cold as 12° and 13°F. Our Ugg comforter, with a fairly conventional fuzzy blanket beneath, keeps wife and myself very cozy.

Snow boots Danner (lookout) vs. UGG (Butte)?
I've lived in snow country all my life and was starting to get chilblains on my toes. I needed some really warm boots that were flexible enough to drive with so I tried the UGG Buttes. They're warm and limber and are now my favorite winter boots but they aren't waterproof. They're great in snow but your feet will get wet in slush.

Nice looking men's boots that will work in an office, but stand up to Chicago winters
Is bringing a change of shoes an option? The times I've worked downtown in the winter I've brought a separate pair of shoes with me, either in their own small bag or in a grocery bag in my backpack. As far as the boots go I don't really have any better suggestions than what's already been mentioned here. I wear a pair of black Ugg winter boots I got on clearance about 6 years ago; idk how "bifl" they really are, but they're comfy and and have held up well. That said, even the comfiest winter boots I still find to be a little too clunky to walk around an office all day with. Id much rather bring my other shoes with me and change when I get in.

What have you used the most at home these two years?
A whiteboard. It lives in my kitchen. I love writing my shopping list/ to do lists on it and it's fun to let friends leave little doodles on it. Physically crossing off items on my list just gives me a lot of joy and walking into my kitchen and thinking "look at all the stuff I've done!" if my list is almost accomplished is great. Also, a really nice warm blanket. I was gifted one of those "Ugg" brand ones and it's been six years and it's still nice and soft after regular washing. I thought it was stupid and overpriced at first, but so worth it.

I have a pair of the shin high Ugg boots like Jason Segel in I Love You Man . They’re mostly my house shoe/slipper(socks only) but I’ve had them since 2016. They’re the American Ugg but they have lasted a long time. I’m definitely upgrading to the Australian ones this year though.

They feel like real rubber, and I still have them! They've lasted me quite a few Canadian winters now! I've never had boots last this long and still feel warm. I may get new ones this year just to get the ones that go up higher.

Womens winter boots that are warm!!
The Adirondack UGGs have very good traction on ice and very comfortable to walk in! They are true winter boots so designed for cold winters and snow. Your feet will be dry and warm on the worst winter day. For black ice/ice storm weather I would also get a pair of metal crampons regardless of whatever boot you buy. They go over your boot and have metal spikes/studs for walking on ice. I’ll wear these occasionally when walking the dog or in extreme weather. This model of boots also has a regular version and a tall version. I would only get tall if I lived in the country or spent a lot of hours outside everyday.

Yes I should have added mine were still in amazing shape after 9 years. I just looked it up and that UGG model has been around for 25 years with thousands of 5-star reviews. My Sorels were good/warm but I don’t think they would last as long. The materials UGG uses are better.

I’ve had these slippers for about 6months wearing them nearing everyday and they are just as comfortable now as when I bought them. They are SO comfortable with memory foam and a nonslip bottom. Stuff you will continue buying for life
I kind of look at this like what things would I immediately repurchase if lost or destroyed (not including electronics) and the first that come to mind-- a yeti water bottle and a yeti mug for tea, Birkenstock Arizonas in either black or cognac, Duluth trading no yank tanks, Fantasie side support bras, classic short Uggs (great house shoes/slippers when it's cold.) I'll also never be without either a kindle or a kobo if I have a choice. I'm also stupidly loyal to cetaphil gentle face cleanser, cerave and vanicream moisturizers/lotions, and Aquaphor.

What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?
Got my very young daughter Uggs for Xmas at a screaming good deal. Being little she loved them And wore them to death culminating in them being left at pool lost and then subsequently finding them there the next season. I wrote asking about how to get repairs as there was a hole in the toe. Said send them in for Warranty, and we know it’s a kid so if you need a bigger size or different color no problem. They replaced them two more times for free.

What's something you've bought because of bifl that you're still using?
Linen sheets, kitchenaid mixer, Birkenstock sandals, Ugg boots, Columbia winter coat, cast iron pan. Hand me down fiesta ware dishes that I helped my mom pick out at their tent sale over 20 years ago. My daughter was gifted a Steiff Bear when she was born and it still looks brand new at almost 10 years old and multiple washes. A hand me down Copenhagen table, the model is still sold by them and has gone through several moves across the country over 15+ years.

What are some items under $500 you’ve made so far that changed your life?
Jogging stroller free off market place. It's been through 3 kids and looks brand new (aside from dirt on the wheels). I only had to replace an inner tube once. Encouraged me to take walks after dropping the big kids at school. Really helped my mental health and helps me get some momentum to get my day going. A set of multiple material crochet hooks from an estate sale. There was a box of wooden, bamboo, plastic, metal, etc. Hook of all sizes and husband didn't know what to do with it all, and I got it for $10. I make stuff constantly thanks to his wife. I'd never afford all of those on my own unless it was years of accumulation. Random furniture or toys found on the curb and refurbed at home. The OG UGGs. Anything from that brand is so worth the price. I've had a tan pair that's 18yo, a grey pair 15yo, a pair of the Converse Chuck style 13yo, and a pair of purple moccasins 8yo. My feet are never cold and never hurt in those. Boots were about $125 each, chucks were $95, I think, and moccasins I bought new but from a thrift site for $20. Incredibly well-made and natural fibers. I'm always a big proponent of buying quality shoes because they affect your whole body and it'll cost you in medical bills in the long run. As a chef, I love Jamie Oliver cook books because they are actually good and keep budget and availability in mind. I find them at thrift stores. I've almost got the whole collection. If you're looking for good gifts for a cook, these are great ones, especially the ones with neon spines and numbers. They're full of recipes for when you're too tired to cook or are just out of time. Most are less than 30 minutes or 30 minutes of prep and an hour in the oven so you can do other things. Great for parents.

Ladies, what are the MOST comfortable boots you’ve worn for walking 10k+ steps a day?
I love my Ugg Ashton Chelsea boots. They’re waterproof (which reduces the breathability a bit… I have sweaty feet and never had a problem wearing thin wool socks), stylish, and super comfortable. I wear them biking in Seattle rain and I walk in them all day on Seattle’s hilly streets. They have a pretty good grip on slick sidewalks. They have a lug sole, which looks cool and helps with support! I have flat feet and don’t need insoles in them. I’ve never tried hiking in them though. No blisters, no break in period, no regrets. Quirks: they run really big. I usually wear a US women’s 9.5 for boots and shoes and 10 for running shoes. I bought a 9.5 originally and had to exchange them for 9 and they’re still a bit too big. Not sure they sell them anymore sadly.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
Don't be so quick to dismiss something just because it's too popular and everyone has it. That usually means there's something pretty great about it. I had the same idea about those ubiquitous Longchamp bags. I didn't want one because I thought having a nylon bag was a dumb idea. My mother said if everyone has it then it must be good and she bought me one. Of course she was right. I've been using that same purse for more than ten years now and it's by far the lightest, most comfortable one I have. Ugg boots are still popular and considered stylish after all these years. Members of my family have quite a few different pairs and we are all very happy with the quality. I think it's a perfectly good BIFL purchase. I agree with the suggestion to choose leather over suede for extended longevity.

Hey. Hey. Hey. Wow. I have a pair of Bailey 3-Button Ugg boots that are probably close to *five or six years old* and I'm *still* wearing them. My mother bought them for me as a Christmas gift back in my freshman year of high school (I had to be cool and trendy, ya know?) and she is amazed that I'm still wearing them. I have dragged them through rain, slush, snow, jumping in puddles. Fuckers are warm and awesome. I've sprayed them with weather-proof stuff like, twice, in their entire lifetime and they still look fine. I bet they'd look even better had I weather-proofed them every year, but I'm still happy with them. Picture of them just now: http://i.imgur.com/SORmbZO.jpg If she wants Ugg boots, give her Ugg boots. "I feel like she could do better" is pretty condescending. We got mine at Nordstrom's, which has an excellent return policy should something go wrong with them.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
As I understand it, UGGs -- real UGGs, the actual name-brand, high-end, not-rip-off UGGs -- *are* buy it for life. They're made from real sheepskin (as I recall, the sheep are not raised specifically for bootmaking, as some animal rights activists (*cough* PETA *cough* have claimed) but sheep raised for other purposes -- such as food or wool, etc, and when they were killed or died of natural causes, they were skinned and the skins sent UGG, so it's maximizing the existing supply line). Then I believe UGG is one of the boot companies that stitches the upper to the sole, instead of gluing. So it's actually a BIFL type boot, and worth the cost. Plus, they're sold through Nordstrom, which has a great return policy. I mean ... they're pretty BIFL as-is. I feel like you can't really get a better BIFL alternative. The rip-offs are just that: Rip-offs. edit/ I'm not an UGG owner or fan -- an acquaintance of a FB friend posted a PETA warning about UGGs animal-unfriendly practices, which showed up in my feed. I watched the video attached to her PETA warning, and, ironically, the video actually contradicted the text of her warning (that UGG raises and tortures sheep solely for cheap boots) by talking about UGGs production practices and where they sourced their sheepskin from. That's how I know anything at all about UGG. It was pretty interesting. They seem like a cool company. I don't like the look of the boots, but they actually seem BIFL.

Honestly, I think UGGs are BIFL. You don't have to get the traditional ugg boot you see flocks of high school and college girls running around in. I just got a really nice pair of uggs that don't look anything like the original and you can hardly see the logo. I have reynauds and it's really important that I'm able to keep my feet as warm as possible in the cold weather. I've yet to find any other pair that keeps me as warm as uggs do. Check out their website they have so many more designes than what you expect.

If she wants the Uggs, I would recommend buying the Uggs. I railed and railed against Uggs for several years. Why would anybody buy those? They're ugly and you're a labelwhore." And then I wore a friend's pair going out one night because I hadn't brought any warm winter boots with me. Wearing them changed my mind completely. They are CRAZY warm inside. They're soft, and they last. I've had [this pair](http://www.uggaustralia.com/women-sale/bailey-button-triplet/737872071516.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiAkIWzBRDK1ayo-Yjt38wBEiQAi7NnPwWFAVSkPo0J9RELhrx4lDfplnzlihmUrO70A9Sk1uIaApbL8P8HAQ&kpid=1873-CHE-07&source=shoppingsite_PLA_1873-CHE-07) for a few years now. I was very anti-Ugg (and I still hate the way they look) but they *are* warm and they *are* worth it.

Ugg has replaced my boots once because of a loose seam that was a wear and tear problem, they are a very helpful company in that respect. After a few years the insole may be worn down so you can actually buy replacements on their website which makes your boots feel new. I treat them with Ugg stain and water repellant maybe twice a year. My boots look great, feel great and show no signs of retiring.

GF wants to by Ugg boots. I feel like she could do better. What are some BIFL alternatives to ugg boots?
Get her uggs. They're relatively high quality and relatively high priced. You're buying slipper boots. So they won't last for life, but if you want to make them last longer follow the advice an uggs rep gave me. Fit them for use without socks. The shearling acts as a heat and moisture wick surrounding the foot. Makes sense when you find out they were originally surfer boots from Australia. Socks can trap too much heat and sweat that can cause the interior to wear out faster and smell bad. Speaking of which if they start smelling DO NOT WASH THEM. Get a big sealable storage bag and pop them in the freezer.

My friend has had the same pair of Ugg Brooks for the last 13 years. She is about to replace them with another pair. She loves them!

Encourage her to get what she really wants and what shes going to be happiest with long term. If you don't chances are she'll be shopping again for what she wanted all along in the future. Not to mention underlying resentment. I don't expect my wife to weigh in when I buy tools...etc. Ugg is a good brand and they make some good boots. Sorel and Hunter are other brands that make good boots that are also stylish. My wife owns an assortment of ugg, sorel, and hunter. The sorels are her favorite.

Legit the most generic "Ugg" you can think of. https://www.ausboots.com.au/images/W/Short%20American%20Boots%20Sand%20Pic%201.jpg Mine are suede with http://www.amazon.com/Kiwi-Suede-Protector-4-25-Oz/dp/B00GT2U5IK sprayed on them when I remember (maybe once every 2 years?) I haven't done anything special, just bought a good pair of Uggs and... I dunno..?

Yep, I got my Ugg Ultras in the late 90s and despite getting a ton of wear, they're still going strong. I've never really done anything to care for them, but they're in great shape. Hell, I haven't even replaced the insole, though I really ought to now that I'm thinking about it. That said, I just checked and mine say they were made in New Zealand, so I don't know about the current ones made in China. Also it looks like they've discontinued the Ultras and now I feel bad about not buying another pair. Boooo. :(

I used to wear the suede ones in high school. They lasted a pretty long time, but I wasn't walking through the snow piles in them or wearing them in the rain either. I have a friend who bought a pair of leather Uggs a couple of years ago, and they're still in great condition. Obviously it's not like it's a goodyear welt or something, but it fits the purpose and can sustain quite a few wears. I second your recommendation.

Uggs are BIFL. I've had mine for 8 years now and they've been through 2' snow in Canada & Japan - Get a good sealer to put on the outside. If you don't want to wear through the soles you can buy Ugg inserts that are *much* cheaper to replace than the whole boot.

Honestly UGG has great customer service. I had a pair I wore for 2 years straight, treated with waterproofing and cleaned regularly. I live in a very snowy area and wore them in light snow, for deeper snow I wore specific snow boots (Sorel). The UGGs developed a crack in the side near the sole and water would leak in. Contacted customer service, explained the problem. They sent me a brand new pair no questions asked. UGGs are comfy and warm, I don't really care how they look for "fashion". I mostly care about staying warm. So my suggestion is to buy her UGGs. You can find them on sale at Nordstrom or Zulily often. You can also find them at Marshalls.

Some models of Uggs are actually pretty good quality. Don't get the suede ones that all girls have, those are basically slippers and will wear out quickly. Get the ones with proper soles and that are at least part leather. Edit: My dad has had his pair of Uggs for over 10 years, they're still pretty much the same as when he got them. My mom got a pair at the same time, she lost them a couple of years ago but they were still in very good condition as well. [These are sort of like the ones she had.](http://www.uggaustralia.com/women-footwear/sequoia/1007711.html?dwvar_1007711_color=BLK#prefn1=shoeType&prefv1=winter-boots&start=2&cgid=women-boots) TL;DR Basically they're actually good quality as long as you get the good ones.

I've had a few pair of Uggs, and even though I wore my first pair all the time they were great. Worn evenly, no rips, holes or sole issues. Buy them at Nordstroms, because in the unlikely event something goes wrong with the boot the return policy is amazing.
