  If you started your wardrobe over from scratch, what would you buy? (US)

  I’m still wearing athletic clothes I got from under armour in 2008. I would assume their quality has tanked since then, but these particular things from back then are holding up amazingly well. I don’t have Lululemon stuff from back then but I know that everyone raved about their quality. I do have some Lululemon from the past few years and imo it’s kind of mid. The running shorts I got look awful (the fabric is pilling in a weird way and has stains that won’t come out) - they’re what I wear when I’m doing something messy and I don’t want to ruin my good athletic clothes. I have a lulu shirt I wear when I’m biking and it has become really discoloured, and I have a pair of leggings that seem to be holding up ok so far, but there are a few minor issues like loose threads.

  Something you didn’t expect to be BIFL but outlasted your expectations?

  Don’t know the model name but my Under Armour backpack. Bought it in 2015, have been using it literally every day for the last 10 years. Goes to work with me, goes on every vacation, hikes, camping, international trips. I’ve over stuffed it with heavy stuff so many times - but it lasts. I’m kinda surprised how much it’s maintaining well. I think this might be an item that eventually I would get tired of and replace, but that day isn’t anytime soon. Going strong. 💪

  Yep, bought some sweatpants, fruit of loom brand from amazon and they ripped within a few weeks. I have some under armour swear pants that are still going strong for almost 5 year. Sometimes buying better name brands works out better.

  I really really enjoy my underarmour performance tech 3” boxerjock. I buy enough so I have atleast 14 pairs. They are comfortable, moisture wicking, and good quality. I tend to replace my underwear every year or every other year just because I don’t think of underwear as a lifetime purchase. However, I’ve had SEVERAL underwear products for 5+ years and they’ve held up very very well with daily use. It’s $42 USD for a 3 pack so not the cheapest, but for what I use them for they are perfect. For reference I wear them for my daily underwear as well as my Muay Thai underwear when I am training as well as when I wear a cup with jockstrap. I wear them when I skateboard, when I run, jump rope, and all of my other random activities I partake in. They have served me well.

  Under armor boxer briefs are very close. I have some that have to be 15 years old. Maybe more. I have one pair where the elastic rolled/bunched. Duluth felt good but haven’t held up nearly as well.

  The key is wash in cold and hang dry. I just threw away my Calvin Klein underwear I bought in 2005. All my underwear basically looks new - lots of under armour to be honest. People love just throwing their laundry in their speed queen with the agitator that’s rough af on their clothes - I’ve used a front load Bosch then a Miele for the last 20 years and I RARELY throw out clothes. Wash in cold, no agitator, hang dry.

  Yeah, for years my wife was buying backpacks for my daughter for elementary school and they would barely make it to the end of the year. Last year she finally got my daughter an Under Armor backpack and it survived the year and she is using it this year too. First time a backpack has survived multiple years with my kid.

  Not from dakotas but I have a shearling jacket that is insanely warm and has kept me toasty on trips to the Midwest and Canada….they last for tens of years with care, but are not inexpensive. As a snowboarder I have to say base layer is often the most important, under armor cold gear or a something merino from a reputable brand will work wonders for quick trips outside in the winter, but you’ll need something more heavy duty if you’re going to be sitting around in cold for extended periods of time. Down is a great option too as it’s lightweight but can be expensive for decent quality and it loses its insulating properties if it gets wet.

  I haven’t lived there but I did visit for a week long hunting trip (-30 windchill). It was cold but not miserable. It’s a dry cold which helps, while it gets colder than the Great Lakes region does it didn’t feel as bad as the Great Lakes can. If you’re going from car to building you won’t be too bad with thick socks, pants, shirt, sweater, coat. If you plan to spend more than 10 min outside bundle up big. A heavy thermal layer is worth its weight in gold. Under armor and smart wool make great ones. Your standard long sleeve shirt and pants work fine as a mid-layer works better if you wear fleece lined pants and a sweater. Outer/shell layer should be a nice wind proof jacket with some hearty insulation, long coat if you don’t want to wear a shell layer over your bottoms. I personally like bibs/coveralls/overalls but I know most people can wear them all the time

  Very very surprised to not see more recs for under armor. After a particularly sweaty motorcycle trip gave me a horrible rash using cotton boxer briefs, I started trying different brands using more moisture wicking materials. Many stretched out, rode down or up my legs, and were generally meh - but the under armor were great. I've now had about 20 pair for somewhere between 10-15 years and haven't worn out a single one. I'm a big guy (6'2" 280#) and work outside in industry in the SE Louisiana heat, so I really put them through their paces. I gave a few pair to friends as gifts and every one told me they were life changing. Yes they're expensive, but I have zero complaints given their longevity.

  I've been an Under Armor adherent when it comes to socks for like 17 years now. I don't know if that's a lil too common-folky for what you were looking for, but I have found that a pair of Under Armor socks lasts me 5 years.... provided that I own around 15 pair at a time. None of that just wearing one pair every day, I don't think that would work out.

  Check out Krakatoa. Expensive, but the best boxer briefs I have tried. If you want cheaper, get the three pack Under Armour off Amazon. I use these daily and love them. They are thin so you have to baby them - never dry them in the machine.

  If you can afford them: the best pair of boxer briefs I have ever worn is made by a company called Krakatoa. Fantastic quality, has a pouch in the front, and a vertical pocket to easily access your part! I would order a size down - the ones I have tend to ride up because they are too large. I don't wear them often which is a shame... I'd order more, but I am cheap. They feel like you have a cloud wrapped around your crotch all day. For a budget option, the next best option is get the Under Armour Tech-9s from Amazon. They are really thin and feel great. These are my daily under garments. Be careful washing them - I always put my underwear in a mesh bag and air dry or else the machines will tear them apart. I have a pair that has a small rip in it, but I attribute that to user error. Been wearing the same 6 pairs for a few years now with no wear apart from that small rip. And most importantly the waist band stays elastic.

  Best shoes for standing all day?

  Been lurking on diff subreddits here for a while and I’ve noticed a lot of folks in your situation end up going with either cushioned running shoes or those really soft slip-on walkers. Running shoes are great for absorbing all that impact (under armour has good shoes in that space), while the slip-ons are nice for when you want to give your feet a breather. In more humid or wet settings, the better option are quick-dry mesh styles (like the dlgjp ones), this way you’re not stuck in sweaty, heavy shoes all day. One thing I’d add from my own trial-and-error, rotating between a couple of pairs can seriously help. Shoes break in differently and it keeps the same spots on your feet from getting sore. Toss in a solid insole and maybe compression socks, and you’ll feel a big difference by the end of the shift.

  I have been really happy with my MeUndies boxer briefs. I have not had to buy a pair in 4 years now. They are great for everyday but are not my favorite for serious hiking adventures.. My Under Armor Heat Gear Compression shorts are great for hiking.. I've had the ExOfficio 's and they were never comfortable for me. They just didn't fit right. I am probably an outlier with them cuz a lot of people here seem to really like them

  I dont know that there are any BIFL underwear. All the comfy ones are thin, breathable, and synthetic and last 5 years maybe (in my experience) that said ive had great luck with 32 degrees. I like under armour better because they have a better fit and feel but theyre so expensive.

  13 years in the car biz, and fully endorse the idea that you have to take care of your feet! Under Armour. Little pricey, the Pumas mentioned below are good too, but I'll lose the UA socks to the dryer goblins before the comfort goes. I habe not thrown one away yet. The Pumas didn't seem to hold comfort and padding as long, been a bit though (12 year UA convert). And the UA fit my wide Fred Flintstone feet like a glove that is also a silky cloud. NOT a fan of the shoes though, they go fast. Probably due more to heated asphalt all day.

  If you got the money to spend then 'Darn Tough' is going to be the absolute best. But they are very expensive. Under Armour Performance Tech is the best value socks I have found that I don't have to spend a fortune on. I've found them to be much more durable then Nike and Adidas.

  Looking for a good pair of slip-on shoes for daily wear

  I really like under armour slip speeds. The heel is collapsible and there’s a boa lace system. I like I can wear it to run errands or work out in. The grip on my sole has been worn down after two years of heavy use though.

  I’ve been going to Ross for over a year every couple of months and try to pick up their Under Armour gear. I love their shirts and you can swipe one for $12-15 each. Super comfortable. They also have a couple other decent athletic gear items. You can build a week long gym closet for $100 or so which is awesome compared to what you spend typically ($25+ for a shirt, $25+ for a pair of shorts).

  I've had white Adidas sneakers for years now. I agree with all the comments about rotating though! Another trick to get more life out of shoe is to replace the laces and the inserts. You can get memory foam ones on Amazon for like $10! As for other quality shoe brands, I love my Tao sandals and leather sneakers (they are only made for women though, which is interesting), SAS, Sorel, and Naot. All of them are on the pricier side, but they are worth it for the comfort and craftsmanship! My most recent work shoes are Under Armour from their outlet, and they've actually held up incredibly well for the last year or so (I'm a nurse, so they get a lot of wear!) If you are looking for shoes made in the US d/t the cost of tariffs right now, Pikilinos are made here.

  I find Under Armour in general to be so underrated. Most of my sportswear is from there, including sports bras and leggings that go through the wash after every wear. I've had some for 3+ years which is BIFLongTime when it comes to sports bras lol

  Sorry to pile onto an old thread, but when I did wrestling in school I wore under armor compression shorts for every practice and competition. Didn't ride up, didn't turn see through (I had black shorts) when the fabric stretched, and was comfortable and held up regardless of how things went on the mat. It's been over 10 years since I got them in high school and I only got rid of them about a year ago because I finally stopped being underweight and they no longer fit. Can't speak to the quality of Under Armor now, but mine would've kept going had I outgrown them.

  Under armor . Nike. Adidas. Tech fit m/golf shirt stuff. I’ve had most for 9 years and show no signs of fading. Washed 2-3 times a month.

  Izod, under armor, adidas all make nice dri-fit polos. I’ve had all 3 brands for years, washed tons of times, and they still look nice and new.

  What do I need to start repairing my own clothing?

  socks is one of the things i splurge on since i hate those huge bulgey seams. i get underarmor left right seamless. but they also last much longer than any other sock i've ever had. still got some from over 10 years ago. my hoodie has been patched a few times using socks. my pants usually get the iron-on patches with a bit of stitching for reinforcement. how do you patch a shirt with a small tear and not have the fabric pulled, causing creases and discomfort?

  UA cold gear is magnificent and I’m a sweater, so it wicks quickly and dries quickly. 15-25 I use the cold gear2.0. 15-0 I like 3.0 and for below zero or negative windchills I like the tactical. These base layers with a fleece and or wool mid layer is usually all I need unless it’s also wet then I add shells.

  Winter joggers for women

  I have a pair of under Armour men's sweatpants that I've had for 20 years, and I'm hard on sweats. The women's suck. I really can't wear them out of the house anymore as I've torn the bottoms up by not hemming them, but they are extremely warm and comfortable. Imo, nike isn't the same as it used to be, but I do have several pairs that are at least 20 years old.
