What product would you seriously stockpile if you found out they weren't going to sell it anymore?
What are your favorites? My current one is the uniball 207 ultra micro.

Here's a link for OP: https://www.jetpens.com/Zebra-Sarasa-Grand-Gel-Pen-0.5-mm-Vintage-Color-Dark-Gray/pd/28895 I like this pen a lot. The stock refill is pretty good, and I like Energel and Uni Jetstream ballpoint as well

Non-expert pen nerd here. BIFL would be fountain pen, I love my Sailor with fine nib, I guess you can get ink for left-handed writers. But probably not a good choice for EDC pen that you just throw in a bag. Of course it has refillable ink cartridge, but the prefilled cartridges of Sailor are proprietary, so more future-proof may be another brand that uses standard ones. I also like MUJIs, I have a large collection of them including refills from many years ago. The red ones seem to dry out quicker than other colors though and I'm wondering how many years will the refills remain usable. They seem to stick to the design for a long time, so that's good. But to be honest, there are more ergonomic alternatives that don't necessarily follow the minimalist style and unsure about how available the refills will be: I'm currently using uni-ball Signo DX 0.38 (says "ultrafine waterproof" on it), for a long time my favorite pen was Pilot Synergy Point. Of course I used G1, G2, Sharpie S-Gel, PaperMate InkJoy and many others - all fine and more-less the same, the only issue I have with those is that click pens with rubberized grip don't go well with notebook pen loop. I thought the Fisher Space Pen would be my EDC one, but it sits on a shelf as a curiosity. If I want to be sure a "tactically placed" writing instrument will work in possibly more distant future when needed, I choose \[mechanical\] pencil. If the question is availability of refills in future, just intuitively I'd choose something like G-2.

i’ve loved the uniball signo .38s since high school and the bodies are still going strong ten years later! they have metal body options, I love using the jet pens website because you can buy as many refills as you want!

In absolutely love my Uni jetstream ballpoint if you need a ballpoint. Their uniball one like is great if you like gel. Then there’s the obvious rabbit hole of fountain pens. The Pilot Kakuno is an excellent starter pen. Just get a converter and some ink (vs the cartridges) and you are set. I order most of my stuff from Jetpens.com

Fellow lefty--Uni ball vision elite purple 0.8mm has been my pen for at least 10 years now, if not more. Also a fan of Rhodia Reverse Book notebooks because I can put the spiral at the top and it doesn't get in my way. I think I've been using the notebooks for almost 20 years...

What are your favorite niche BIFL items that are currently available?
Even *righty’s* are missing out! A great pen, or mechanical pencil, is a life changing experience! IMO, the Japanese brands do. not. disappoint. And, they last forever. For me, it’s the Uni Kuru Toga Roulette (0.5mm) mechanical pencil. But I also have a 0.5mm gel pen that has *green-black* ink that makes me swoon whenever I use it. Writing implements are niche AF, but oh what a fun BIFL niche it is!

Try the Uni Jetstream from Japan, if you've only used the ones sold in the US. They are better. https://www.jetpens.com/blog/Uni-Jetstream-A-Comprehensive-Guide/pt/758

Unpopular opinion: AliExpress is great ... for some products, like simple metal items.
Second, third and fourth the uniball eye. If I'm not writing in a fountain pen, the nano and micro are the only pens I use.

Where Does "Buy It for Life" Not Make Sense?
Correct. Even before I started buying fountain pens, I’d keep my unibal vision elite pens with me till they were empty. They lasted about a month in law school. My fountain pens have never been misplaced
