  What's your budget for this? Assuming it's somewhere around $500 or $600, you can get the Desky Dual Laminate Sit Stand Desk for around $580. This one has two motors and doesn’t feel flimsy like the cheaper Amazon desks. Uplift is also great long term. Their bamboo tops and frames are still going strong after 6 to 7 years, and the warranty is easy to deal with. If you don’t mind used, Steelcase Airtouch or Mayline from resellers are built like tanks and usually much cheaper.

  What's are home office purchases you've made that have more than paid for themselves?

  A huge wooden 80in long Uplift sit to stand desk with hidden cable management, Razer keyboards and mouse, Herman Miller Embody chair, a 43 in Dell 5K monitor paired with a 36in 4K monitor connected to a docking station. The best purchase however was the Ubiquiti Dream Machine SE with scream U7 Pro XGS APs throughout the house so Teams calls don't get dropped when I roam from one end of the house to another.

  I have two uplift desks I have enjoyed for a few years now, not sure how they are viewed on this sub but they have been solid and I like raising and lowering it to get my legs moving a few times a day.

  What's the current best bang for buck standing desk that WFH folks love the most?

  Have had my uplift for years. It’s absolutely marked up foreign made material but it works well and stays sturdy. I have the 80” wide commercial model. I would consider it BIFL. The leg system is very stout and even if the motors stop working you can find replacement parts all over the internet. Worst case you end up with a standard desk. The desk tops come in many different flavors. I went for the standard and it has held up very well. I use an X-Large mouse pad under my mouse and keyboard though. You can find the same setup elsewhere for cheaper but UpLift makes it easy. I grabbed mine during COVID. They had stock during the run on WFH equipment so I snagged my setup. My wife has a cheap no-name Amazon setup and hers is also doing okay. I will say her desk top doesn’t appear to be as durable but that’s any easy thing to replace down the road.

  Uplift is great, had mine for a little over a year with no issues and it’s very sturdy. No wobbles when bumping it, even at max height with 2 monitors attached

  What's the current best bang for buck standing desk that WFH folks love the most?

  I had a cheap one I got on Amazon for like $150 and it was fine. I recently upgraded to an Uplift with an ikea countertop as the work surface. The uplift is much quieter when I adjust it and more stable. Was it with 3x as much? Not sure.

  What's the current best bang for buck standing desk that WFH folks love the most?

  I bought an Uplift a few weeks ago and could not be happier. It's sturdy as heck, looks great, and I love the PC tower holder accessory. I tested some desks out at an office supply store and wasn't really impressed with any of them, the materials just felt cheap. I'm optimistic about the longevity of Uplift based on feel alone.

  https://a.co/d/5NskkE7 I got one of these to try out a standing desk before I dropped money on an uplift, which is what I'll have eventually. But for 140 it's been awesome honestly. But I've only read good things about the uplift desks, so if you've got the budget just go with one of them.

  To be honest, the cable management part is on you no matter which desk you choose. I guess uplift has the most "plug and play" type options for cable management trays and hooks and whatnot, but none of that is required by any means.

  Looking for L-shaped standing desk to upgrade my space

  I've had an Uplift desk for over 5 years now and it has been excellent. Everything is pre-drilled and the instructions are clear. I'd recommend waiting for a sale, they usually do ones for major holidays. You probably won't get much of a discount but sometimes they offer free upgrades and accessories. You can also scour the internet for discount codes. Skip over the laminate options and splurge on one of their solid wood or butcher block desktops. Laminate never holds up, regardless of how well they glue it down. The bamboo and rubberwood are both pretty cheap. I have the dark rubberwood and it looks great. The legs and metal parts are all steel and they use dual motors to reduce stress on the components and improve lifting capacity. They also make some nice looking accessories. It is a bit over your $1k budget for an L desk but from my experience they are worth the price.

  should we spend $800 on a wood standing desk surface?

  Depends on the person/family/intent. I view it as a panel that could easily last forever, be repurposed as needed, etc. I'm sitting on a couch from the 1700s next to a grandfather clock from the 1600s, and in a few minutes I'll go eat dinner at a table from the 1800s. A solid panel that gets damaged can be glued back together, if a big chunk got taken out it could be patched, if it gets wet it can be dried out and sanded smooth and refinished. Dropping anything significant on these composite panels dents or cracks the veneer. Repair will be difficult - maybe fill with epoxy? I'm not sure how I'll approach when it happens. I have no expectation that my grandkids will sit at these new desks. Someone is going to have to cut down another tree, spend another $150 and a week finishing another panel, or figure out another desk. So to OP, I vote hardwood if it's from a lumber source.

  Really you’re asking if you should spend $200 on a solid wood desk. MDF will not last and is a false economy. HDF is much more sturdy and will last, but damage can’t be repaired in the same way it can be with a solid desk. If you’re careful to avoid physical damage then the HFD top will be fine for many many years. But if you really are going to use it regularly year after year, that extra $200 for a real wood top that looks better, and is able to be completely refurbished from almost any damage makes perfect sense to me.

  I have an uplift v2 and it’s been very solid. I got the acacia chevron top and have no complaints about it’s quality. I got the four legged version and it as stable as can be. I do have an issue with the small computer that controls the legs. Every now and then it will get an “overheated” error code that requires me to unplug and replug it to get it funtional again. It’s supposed to only happen when the desk is moving 10%+ of the time, but it’ll happen first thing in the morning for me. I tried to warranty it but they wanted a ton of video evidence, and collecting that was more of a hassle than just powering down the desk every now and then

  This is what I did. Got the Uplift L-shaped frame I wanted, then went to a local lumber shop and got them to get me two counter-depth butcher blocks. Had them sand it, did some stain myself to get it to match my office deco, and bolted it to the frame. Little bit cheaper, little more elbow grease, but it's *exactly* the right size and color I want.

  I have an uplift add on for my desk and my so has an uplift desk with the solid wood. Both are incredibly well made and the wood top on his is gorgeous. This is one of those things where if you are trying to buy it to last, I think it makes sense to go with solid wood. Fwiw, I tried some other brands to add a standing surface before uplift and none were even close to the quality. It's expensive, but worth it imo.

  I have an uplift with their cheapest laminated top. Been waiting two years for my husband to make me a real wood top for it. The laminated top, though, is no joke. Very well made, no issues. Pretty sure I only paid about five hundred total for it.

  Yep - I would worry a lot more about the mechanism than the surface. The surface is replaceable and ultimately doesn't matter hugely unless you care about aesthetics. That said, I have the Uplift - bought in the very early stages of the pandemic - and it's been a workhorse. Super solid, super stable, no notes.

  I just splurged on two solid wood tops and commercial V2 frames from Uplift for our home office. My wife and I chose the wide plank walnut tops. As a hobbyist woodworker, I can confirm that the tops are top notch quality and very well made. I have no regrets, but these Uplift solid tops are so nice that I’m almost afraid to mess them up or put too many holes in the bottom for custom components and configurations. I feel like maybe we should have saved $$ on the tops and invested that money into other things for our office like better chairs, storage, etc since are building out this office from scratch. In hindsight, I would probably still choose Uplift frames but maybe with the faux wood tops instead. Also: the warranty for Uplift are some of the longest I’ve seen: 15 years included and a very affordable optional warranty for an additional 10 years.

  I have an uplift bamboo top and wish I would’ve upgraded to the solid wood. If I were replacing it, I’d go custom rather than buying through them. Wouldn’t be a tough build for someone with a bit of experience and the right tools.

  I started with an uplift frame I bought, then used a solid door slab I cut down (picked up out of trash). Currently I’m using a glass top I bought from the oops pile. Be creative- use anything flat

  Love both of the Uplift Desks in our house. Pro tip: If you are near a brick and mortar Uplift store, (there's one in Austin, not sure about elsewhere), they probably still offer their scratch & dent deal. They had a selection of like 15 different size/style desktops that had barely noticeable damages, dents, scratches, or chips, but were sold for just the price of the leg bases, which at the time was 450. I got a 60" and my husband got an 84" desk - each the same price. I think we had to take the desktops home with us then - at the time they didn't offer that deal to be shipped.

  I love my Uplift desk with MDF top. 5 years of ownership with no problems. My son and I both had one and mine was bigger. When I moved into a smaller apartment we swapped the tops and there was no issue. (I didn't like the color of the legs on his.) However, he has kids and his was a just little beat up. Mine was perfect (the kids are teens now so maybe it's still perfect). If you are the kind of person who takes care of your things then I don't think you'll go wrong with MDF from Uplift. Even so I find it extremely durable. However, if it was just an aesthetic thing I would prefer the wood tops. I have lots of solid wood furniture but all antiques. Solid wood is hard to get at any kind of economical price point for a new item. So I compromised on the mdf for my desk. There have been no more issues with my son's desktop since I've owned it.
