  What Are the Best Travel Shoes That Are Actually Worth It?

  The travel shoe struggle is something I spent way too much time overthinking. Used to pack 3 pairs minimum because I couldn't find anything that worked for both walking miles through cities and looking presentable at dinner. The athletic ones made me look like a tourist everywhere, and the "travel" dress shoes fell apart after one trip. What changed everything for me was getting custom fitted shoes from IAMBIC. Yeah they're pricey but hear me out - I can walk 20,000+ steps through airports, cobblestone streets, whatever, and my feet feel fine. Plus they look professional enough that I don't stick out at business dinners or nicer restaurants. The app fitting process seemed weird at first but the shoes fit better than anything I've owned. I've put mine through hell - Singapore humidity, NYC winters, hiking through Patagonia between meetings - and they still look great. For more budget friendly options, I've heard good things about the Salomon X Ultra for pure comfort if you don't care about looks. My colleague swears by his Veja V-10s for that sweet spot of comfort and style but I haven't tried them myself. The Ecco Soft 7s are decent too if you need something more formal looking. But honestly after dealing with foot pain for years during travel, investing in proper footwear was worth every penny for me.

  Going to Europe, suggestions for comfortable, not-ugly walking shoes that will last?

  For London or Paris, I’d go with a simple leather sneaker like Ecc⁤o Soft 7, Vejas, or Adid⁤as Stan Smiths. Maybe add a pair of nicer Chelsea boots if that’s your style. Both work well with jeans or slightly dressier pants and don’t make you stand out as a tourist. The most important thing is having decent insoles and shoes that are already broken in before you go. The cobblestones will destroy your feet otherwise. When I did a similar trip, I rented a couple of nicer outfits from Ren⁤t the Runway so I could pack lighter and focus my suitcase space (and budget) on one solid pair of shoes I could walk in all day. Dark socks and avoiding big white running shoes also help a lot with blending in.

  Btw great recommendation. I had not looked at Veja for a while the V-10 had caught my eye, but just not my style. I am impressed with the variety they have now. The Volley is what I am looking at from them. Also super good to know GAT is the style of sneaker I like. I never knew.

For that low profile leather vibe, check out: * Veja V-10 or Esplar - sustainable, well-made, different aesthetic * Common Projects Achilles - minimal, premium leather, lasts forever * Maison Margiela GATs - basically elevated Sambas with better materials * Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 - retro vibes, solid construction For finding unique brands, honestly just browse End Clothing, Mr Porter, or Norse Store - they carry tons of smaller European sneaker brands you won't see everywhere. Also try searching "German Army Trainers" or "court shoe alternatives" - you'll find brands like Reproduction of Found, Shoes Like Pottery, etc. What's your budget? That'll help narrow down recommendations.

  VEJA shoes: bad quality?

  I have a pair of the Veja V-10s in white leather. Mine have stood the test of time fairly well. I've had them for 2 years now, but not for everyday wear. My overall opinion after 2 years. They are fairly comfortable out of the box, but do need a break-in to be extremely comfortable. The included insoles are not the greatest. I bought custom inserts and the shoe was much more comfortable and fit a lot better. I found that the shoe was much taller than my foot, so the insoles helped fill the shoe more and stopped the slipping. I imagine the heel slipping might be whats causing the padding in the shoe to wear on yours. Inserts may fix the fit and solve that. Veja are questionably worth the money. There are better white sneakers out there that I feel are better quality, offer more comfort and durability. Besides the V-10s, I've tried the V-12s, Campos and Urca. The V-12s were too narrow for me, but they did feel a little less clunky than the V-10s. They might be good for someone with a narrower foot. The Campo and Urca were both horrible. While they look nice, they killed my feet, because they offer no support or cushion.

  What brand of shoes that lasts?

  I’ve had the best luck with Salomon, ASICS and VEJA. On have a great warranty but don’t last as long as those three.
