  What is the best ice maker machine to buy?

  Opal does not make nugget ice. It makes solid ice in the shape of nuggets. It only kinda looks like nugget ice, but it absolutely is not. If you can get past the resentment that they are advertising nugget ice when they aren't delivering nugget ice, it's still too much money for not that great of a product. Any of the $2-300 Vevors would be better because they make clear ice. Here's a brief primer on ice machines: Ice from your freezer in your fridge has lots of sediment and air trapped in it. It comes out white and frosty and is usually crescent shaped. It's mediocre ice at best. Drop some refrigerator ice in your coke and watch it foam over as the trapped air releases. Even with filtered water, it tends to have a metallic or plastic taste to it. Some refrigerators have "craft ice" now, but that's more of a gimmick for a party than an everyday thing. And if you want perfectly clear sphere ice, there are lots of kits to make them including an electric copper device that carves it for you in front of guests. Most countertop icemakers use the same technology as your fridge. Clear ice makers, however, come in one of two flavors: the bell shaped ice or the cubes.. With the bell-shaped units, a jet of water is pushed up against a metal bell that has refrigerant running through it. While the water hits the freezing bell, some of it accumulates as ice and eventually the ice builds up. After a good 10 minutes, the entire bell is filled with ice and the unit reverses the pressure on the refrigerant causing the ice bells to melt around the edges and drop into a bucket. Then it starts again. If you like bell shaped ice, these are great. They are clear ice because all of the heavy sediment and crap falls from the bell when the jet hits it. The icebells come out perfectly clear. The other flavor of clear ice is made by running water continuously over a freezing plate. Like the bell ice maker, all of the sediment and crap gets washed away with the water that doesn't freeze. Only pure water freezes onto this sheet. When it gets a certain thickness, the machine reverses pressure heating the plate of ice and causing it to slide forward onto a cutter grid. The grid melts a grid pattern into the sheet until cubes pop out the bottom. They are all perfectly clear and taste great. But the pinnacle of ice makers is the nugget ice maker. This works in a similar way to the clear ice cube maker except instead of a bell or a plate, it uses a cone that is always spinning. This filters all the crud out of the water and creates a sheet of ice in a cone shape. However, unlike the others, this cone just keeps rotating and when it gets thick enough it runs into a blade that continually shaves off the clear ice and catches the shavings in a channel. As the shaving move down the channel, they rotate and eventually make a small cylinder of shaved ice. Then a fan blade at the end cuts this cylinder into tiny pellets of God's loving grace. When you put the ice in your mouth, it's not hard or crunchy (I'm lookin at you Opal), it's completely soft and delicious. That's probably more info than you need but there you go. You'll pay more for clear ice and you'll pay a lot for nugget ice. Nugget ice only comes in commercial devices--the residential claims of nugget ice are completely false--don't believe them.

  VEVOR is quickly becoming Anker in my house. Solid stuff. If I get the non-VEVOR stuff its usually worse somehow. Also, Harbor Freight gives exclusively and massively to Dems so I get everything I can there. Big Blue and Big Orange and most the others are big Trumpers.

  Home water distiller for humidifier use - advice please

  The same unit is sold under the brand name Vevor. I bought mine for $60 from home depot, but a lot of vendors sell them. The units are the same so you can do a search and buy it from any reliable vendor. They produce 1 quart per hour. They throw off a lot of heat, so if you have a garage, it may be a good choice to run them in the garage during the summer if you can to avoid heating the house.. They produce about 1 quart per hour. I have timed how long it takes to run and turn it off before it runs out so I dont have to descale the unit - this probably wastes some energy.

  Best humidifier in 2025?

  I use a cheap humidifier from Walmart as well, but I fill it with distilled water. Haven't had a problem, and there's really no cleaning. I use the distilled water for my CPAP, too.
