Looking for a full outdoor winter clothes system.
Trekking gear. I like Climacool as base layer, Polartec mid layer, Gore-Tex hard shell. If it's really cold a thin wool inner layer can be great. You can include a shirt to dress it up a little. But there's many alternatives. High quality Gore-Tex and Vibram hiking/trekking boots are super important, and don't forget about your socks, there's probably better but something with wool is fine, yet with really good boots you can wear pretty much anything really. I wouldn't recommend actual mountaineering boots because they're too specialised, rigid and expensive. I didn't say a word about pants, that's very personal, pick whatever you like best/need for the job.

Has anyone actually found a pair of shoes that truly last a lifetime?
Get some leather boots with vibram green dot soles. Extremely durable and hard rubber. The soles will wear out eventually but it will take a long time. Then you can resole them.

Asolo is garbage and their customer service sucks donkey d!ck; what's my next boot brand?
Dave Page, Cobbler in Seattle, WA, is going to be the best bet stateside. He can put the same Asolo sole on your boots, or he can put a Vibram Bifida sole on, depending upon the boot. The Bifida sole lasts ages, and it isn't susceptible to hydrolysis. I've never tried it, though. I've just heard great things about it. Aside from Dave Page, shipping them to Asolo in Italy is probably the best option. I mostly recommend a resole if you have a leather model, like the TPS 520/535 or Power Matic, because they last so long. With the synthetics, I don't see as much of a point in it since a new pair would break in so quickly.

Prolonging the life of shoe soles
Maybe not the cheapest option in the short term but could pay for itself eventually, but see a podiatrist and have some inner soles made to balance the pressure areas of your foot better and you'll have more even sole wear (and a more comfortable feet/knees/back). Or look for shoes/boots that can be resoled, you could look at the replacement soles Vibram does sell and then work back through the shoes that use them to find something you like.

Another thing to look for if you don't wanna commit to the whole leather boot thing (though I recommend it) is just making sure whatever you get has Vibram outsoles. Vibram is the gold standard as far as I'm aware, and no one's going to put Vibram soles on cheap boots. They'll put them on boots that aren't necessarily BIFL, but you'll avoid the worst by looking for Vibram.

mine were destroyed after 1 week camping in ozarks. get vibram sole. sells in a sheet and contact cement. use heat gun on sole peel off with pliers. scuff up new sole after cutting it slightly larger clean with alcohol. apply glue to both. let dry heat up both with heatgun press together. leave brick (i had a kettlebell) on it for a bit cut excess sand even and done. i did it in a semi cab on downtime.

In my city, I just got new footbeds on 2 pair. I think it was normally $95, but I chose to get vibram soles on the cork because I’m a heavy person and I thought they’d last me longer so that was $110 but to replace the shoes is up to $160 now I think? I wear my shoes out like yours, the heels and then into the cork…. The cobbler I went to told me to bring them back when the sole is worn but the cork is still on good shape and he can just replace the heel part or the sole.

The sole is pretty soft on these sandals. I’d get them resoled with vibram. It will last twice as long if not more.

I think the outsole on birks is pretty soft which means it is more comfortable but less durable. I think vibram makes a more durable outsole for birks and you could see if your local cobbler has them.

I have the exact same wear pattern and I replace mine about once a year. It is from dragging your feet and it’s a hard habit to change in my instance. Resolving with Vibram before they get to the point of cork on ground will help a lot

Very sad to say Blundstones are no longer BIFL. I had a pair in my youth that lasted me a decade. Now after a few short months the soles of this pair has literally turned to dust!
Take them to a cobbler and get new soles. Vibram will last you a long time

Yeah the newer blundstones can be had with two styles of soles. The Vibram soles are decent enough, but the standard soles are cheaply made injection molded trash which has no place on a boot of this price level. The standard soles on these are absolutely garbage.

Some shoes have a polyurethane soles. It needs moisture in it and wearing the shoes works ambient moisture into the material. It's called hydrolysis and essentially ends in the PU disintegrating. I suspect maybe your winter stowing may have severely deteriorated the integrity, but not enough to outright fall apart until now. A vibram sole won't do that since it's rubber not Polyurethane. It's going to be less comfortable but I imagine it'll last longer since you're getting your mileage on them. Leather looks used but not neglected or even out of band for so many miles that you've said you're walking every day. (Good for you btw)

I have a pair of Carolina Birch comp to which have the vibram lug sole. The are 12 days shy of 2 years old. I can stick my fingers into the boots because the stitching is tore everywhere but the vibram soles still look amazing

Gait, weight, shoe size, shoe, all impact wear. You can buy some boots with vibram soles, but if you have other underlying reasons, new boots are going to help you only so much.

Vibram work boot soling is very durable stuff. If you want more fashionable boots with thinner soles those are not going to wear as hard as lugged Vibram work boot soles.

I have Tourette’s Syndrome. Help me find a BIFL shoe or boot?
Might be worth trying to find something with a vibram sole, as they can be resoled. Perhaps purchase a couple pair so one can go in the shop while you’re wearing the other. The alternative would be to ask the repair shops what they recommend, as they would know which shoes/boots are easily repaired.
