I have an accidental BIFL. I bought a container of Vicks VapoRub in 2005. It’s still around. It has an expiration date of 9/2008. I swear it has become stronger after all these years and you only need a small amount.

I’d recommend looking into ultrasonic humidifiers, as they tend to be quieter and require less maintenance than traditional models. Some brands, like Honeywell, Levoit, or Vicks, offer good options that are highly rated for both performance and ease of cleaning.

Best humidifier in 2025?
I second the Vicks humidifier. We had an old one for decades and just recently replaced it with a newer (more advanced) model. It has two settings to choose from, and you’ll definitely get plenty of steam either way.

Best Evaporative Humidifier?
I ended up buying a 20 dollar Vicks humidifier and a 9 dollar hydrometer. The combo seems to work about as well as the 100 dollar unit it replaced.
