If you want to buy for life find yourself a use Waring (Waring, Waring pro, Waring commercial) you can find those used on eBay online or on thrift stores. These are 10-20 year old machines but they do not make em like they used to that's for sure. If you can't find a cheap Waring cause all of them are being sold by scalpers try finding a Cuisinart of the same vintage, those are a kept secret in the waffle world cause they are basically rebranded waring's

What is the best kitchen gadget under $100 that you own?
Under $100 - digital scale for precise measurements, vacuum sealer for marinating and for bulk purchases. Over $100 - a high quality blender. Bought a Waring commercial blender for $350 years ago. Bulletproof. It was made to make margaritas and such every day. We will never wear it out, blends fully and flawlessly, and you can make tomato soup from scratch on it.

What’s a kitchen item you bought once and never had to replace?
Kinda depends on what you cook, we're a mixed west/east cooking house so the list reflects that. And these have been collected across a 35 year span and frequent trips to both western and eastern restaurant supply shops, not all at once: Tatung steamer/rice cookers, Ohaus valor 3000 xtreme scale, vintage high carbon knives (mostly French), good Chinese cleaver (Master Wu Artillery Steel), Benriner mandoline slicer (blades are replaceable), carbon steel woks in two sizes, EZ Wok outdoor wok burner cart, cast iron and carbon steel pans, Vigor induction ready sauce pans in a variety of sizes, Russell Hobbs kettle and toaster when they were made in the UK, solid wood (olive, beech & bamboo) utensils (spoons, spatulas), Nordic Naturals muffin and cake tins, Vollrath half and quarter sheet pans, Vollrath heavy duty stainless bowels in a variety of sizes, heavy duty stainless steel measure cups and spoons, PYREX volumetric measuring cuts, Waring all metal commercial grade immersion blender (2 speeds, replaceable blades), Braun Universal Mixer, Vitamix blender (I honestly wouldn't buy this if I had it to do over, it's our most rarely used gadget). The food processor has been replaced (killed beyond repair a Cuisinart, bought a used Magimix, had just for year) and the KitchenAid Professional (HA) had to be repaired twice so we gave up and switched to the Braun for bread doughs and barely use it now. #

Immersion Blender: Ninja Vs Vitamix
Rtings is good for TVs and monitors but I wouldn't put any faith in their view of cooking equipment. Including ice crushing in the test of immersion blenders is like scoring TVs based on their usefulness as a table, and giving anything from Ninja an 8/10 score for "professional use" is a pretty clear indication the testers don't know what they're talking about. Between your two options I'd go with Vitamix but realistically your best option for a BIFL immersion blender are: 1) whatever brand is stocked at your local restaurant supply shop, probably Robot Coupe, Waring or Dynamix 2) Bamix

1959(?) [Waring Blendor](https://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object/nmah_324295) (that's how they spelled it back then) that belonged to my Grandparents. My Grandma used to make me milkshakes with it when I would visit. I used it almost daily (to make shakes and malts). The one in the link is listed as a 'two-speed'. Mine is only single-speed, so perhaps even older? Or maybe it was repaired with a single-speed switch at some point.

Oddly specific, but Waring blenders. I found one at a thrift store for $10. I've never made a purchase so fast. It needed a really good clean and the gasket replaced, but I've had no issues from it. It's a beast of a machine. Thrifting it saved me a couple hundred

Buy Once Cry Once items?
I got a Waring Commercial blender, as in it’s made for restaurant use and I bought it from a commercial kitchen supplier. It is a very good competitor to Vitamix. About the same price but rated at 3.5 horsepower vs. Vitamix at 2.2 horsepower. Now companies pull all kinds of shenanigans with advertised specs, so I don’t take that at face value. But I’ll put it this way, Vitamix comes with that plunger thing built into the lid so you can help jam stuff towards the blades. The Waring doesn’t have that and in 10 years I’ve never needed it. The blades crest enough suction and circulation that anything in there gets pulled down on its own. Also when I’m brave enough (and have hearing protection) to use the pulse button, it turns a pitcher of ice into fluffy snow in 2 seconds flat. Didn’t mean to rant, just saying that while Vitamix is very good, they are not on an island on their own except when it comes to marketing.

WAFFLEMAKER PLEASE MINE DIED
Most are going to have a non-stick coating and be electrical so they arent going to be "buy it for life" but the ease of use makes it worth it. Waring Commerical is what you want. If you want something bullet proof, stove top cast iron waffle maker.
