Work boots in the 150 USD range, with and without toe protection
Red Wing boots are garbage compared to what they used to be. It used to be almost a no brainer that Red Wing was the gold standard. Now they are merely "standard". And the majority of their models these days are direct attach, which for anybody looking for something with actual quality is a no go because they are mostly all garbage regardless of brand and are unlikely to last more than a year regardless of what brand or model you buy. Especially Keen. I wouldn't take a pair of those if you gave them to me for free. I'd have recommended sticking to the higher end models by Georgia boot, Timberland Pro, Chippewa, and only stitched models, no direct attach, or if you want an ACTUAL very high quality boot, then look at White's boots which are hand made and a lot more of a BIFL boot than pretty much anything else out there.

Revere Ware set of pots from the late 50s or early 60s that were passed down to me from my grandmother. She used them pretty much every day from the time she bought them. I have been using them since 2007. Starter brand gym bag that I got in 1993 that I still use. It’s in remarkably good shape. The Kentucky Wild Cats logo has partially worn off but it still functions. White’s Semi Dress boots. They were an impulse purchase in 2009. They are still holding strong. They need another resole soon. Tag Heuer Classic 2000 watch. I was gifted the watch in 1998 and still wear it often.

New buy it for life shoes or hiking shoes
Cemented shoes are only good for a couple years. For $65 with your discount, just keep buying them if you like them and the price is your deal-breaker. If you want something that will literally last decades and decades (with resoles and rebuilds) look at PNW bootmakers. White’s, Nick’s, and pretty much any other single name apostrophes will make you something that will be far better in the long run, but you will pay $500-$800 dollars.

Men's safety toe work boots
Frank’s boots , white’s boots and Nick’s boots all make fantastic boots but expect to pay for it they are pricey and most are made to order so they take some time keep an eye out for Black Friday deals I believe Nicks has a 10% off on some models now. Those would be the most bifl as far as boots go.

Best shoes (sneakers & boots) for high instep?
I went through this exact same struggle for years. High instep plus wide forefoot is brutal for finding anything that fits right. After trying everything from Allen Edmonds to custom orthotics, I finally bit the bullet and got fitted through IAMBIC's app - they do custom dress shoes based on 3D foot scans. Complete difference from anything off the shelf. For sneakers though, New Balance 990v5 in wide has been solid, and for boots check out Nicks or White's - they do custom lasts if you need it. The break-in period is rough but once they're broken in they last forever.

I have a pair of White's that is 30 years old. They are used outdoors in punishing environments. By buddy was a firefighter for 30 years and he wore his Dad's Whites the whole time.

Good leather boots reccomendations?
If you want a pair of boots that are built for life, it’s tough to look much further that the Pacific Northwest boot-makers. Nick’s, White’s, Frank’s, and JK all make some seriously tough boots that will last for decades with proper care. But they are also not cheap. So you get what you pay for. If PNW boots are too pricey for you, consider Red Wing or Jim Green. Both are well made. I think of Jim Green as PNW light. The leathers aren’t the same but still well made for a fair price, and many are double lasted. And a lot of first responders seem to like Redbacks if you’re okay with a slip on Chelsea style. I didn’t think I would ever like a Chelsea boot. But I now own 3 pairs because they’re just so comfortable. Waterproof can be a quirky thing. Most waterproof boots have a waterproof liner. Those make your feet sweat and stink. And once you get a hole in them, and you eventually will, all waterproofing is out the window. In fact it’s worse because any water that gets in at that point is trapped and makes a nice swamp in your boot. I would rather have a double lasted boot, leather outside and leather lined. And treated with a good waterproof conditioner like Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP or Huberd’s Shoe Grease.

Best shoes for walking/standing all day?
Depends a lot on what you're doing. In general I'd recommend a wedge sole and avoid things that are waterproof. Water resistant will be much more comfortable and keep the vast majority of people perfectly dry. Thorogood, Keen, Red Wing, Danner and Carolina are good choices. Nick's and White's are great choices. For casual/dress boots I'd check out Thursday Boot Company, Red Wing Iron Rangers, and Grant Stone.

Best hiking boots for men - Suggestions needed.
If you're looking for true BIFL, think resolable high-quality leather construction, such as White's or Nick's. That's what wildland firefighters wear, for example, because they can take a tremendous amount of punishment. For less expensive versions of the same philosophy, take a look at Jim Green. If you're looking for durable and good for hiking, but not resolable, take a look at Salewa hiking shoes. The last pair I had were well-constructed and used a hard rubber sole that lasts a lot longer than the soft rubber used in a lot of trail running shoes. If you're looking for the best hiking experience and aren't actually worried about BIFL, check out Altra Lone Peaks. No trail runners are BIFL since they use foams and rubbers that degrade pretty quickly, but there's a reason they're popular with through hikers. They're the most comfortable and nimble.

Schott Perfecto leather jacket This thing could stop a fucking bullet. I call it “pre-vintage” because I bought it brand new but it’ll get passed on to my grandkids. They have other models too but the Perfecto is *the* biker jacket, worn by The Ramones, James Dean, Marlon Brando etc. Also a pair of PNW leather boots, White’s, Nick’s, Wesco’s Frank’s, etc. These are handmade for loggers and woodland firefighter and have been around for generations, they will last forever if you take care of them. /r/pnwbootmakers

Best shoes to buy???
I would get some merino socks for starters. Smartwool, Darn Tough, Icebreaker, etc. Then I would get a pair of moc toe boots with a wedge sole. Danner Bull Run, White's Perry Select, Red Wing, Thorogood, etc. The Danners and Thorogoods feel great from the get-go, the others will take a week or two to break-in. I might consider adding a cushy insole if I felt so inclined. Then After a month or so, I would buy a 2nd pair...maybe something completely different - Lems or Xero, zero-drop maybe? I would rotate them. If they have to have safety-toes, I'd probably get another boot with a wedge sole. I work outside on a golf course year-round. I have a locker full of shoes/boots, with more in my car. Like you, I do a lot of miles on my feet. I have a lot of conditions to contend with, however, I am constantly changing my shoes. If my feet start to hurt or I don't have the right shoes on for what I need to do, I change them. I wear a pair to/from work, and might wear 3 different pair in a day. Again, being on my feet all day, I can't afford to have any issues with my feet/footwear. The only thing worse is just being cold and wet all day, lol.

[White's Perry Moc-Toe Crepe Sole](https://shop.whitesboots.com/lifestyle-boots/perry/) they're not cheap boots, but they're built to last a long time and the sole is replaceable. The vibram crepe soles are really nice on hard/concrete floors and the boot feels really solid. They're not lightweight, and that might be a concern if you're walking that much, but if I had your job, this is the boot I'd wear to work.

I second the recommendation of Nicks. I have multiple pairs and obsessively read the Nicks subreddit. Nicks, White’s, JK, and Frank’s, all based in Spokane, are essentially identical in how they’re made. Even a gently used pair from Ebay would be a good buy.

Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?
I think bifl items save money in some areas but it can be hard to know when actually buying the product. I bought a pair of White’s boots 15 years ago that I still wear a few times a week. They have been fantastic. I was gifted a Tag Heuer watch 27 years ago that is still going strong. It has got to have saved me some money vs buying a new watch every few years. I got my first cast iron skillet 20+ years ago. It has def saved me from purchasing teflon coated pans. The Kitchen Aid stand mixer that we have is going on 19 years old. I think it depends on your spending habits too. If you buy a bifl product to replace something that still works…

Best simple, not overly-engineered shoe for walking 12k steps/day?
Whatever you get, if you want bifl longevity, get two or three pairs Footwear lasts longer if you let it recover after use True bifl footwear is a nice leather shoe or boot - think Allen Edmonds, Viberg, White's, etc that you re-sole every 2-5 years. Leather uppers can easily last decades I feel like you're asking more for sneakers, but people certainly do put high mileage on service boots (especially if you're doing your steps at work and want to look good!) I alternate two pairs of White's during the week, and then wear beat up sneakers or sandals on the weekends. In a year or two I'll save up and get another boot and just live in White's

[BIFL Request] $100 work boots
Stitching blow out here after 5 years. For the price a good pair of boots though. I have two pairs of Chippewas and a pair of Red Wings so I will not need boots for a while. After reading through the White's catalog I will be ordering from them. One problem I had with the Chippewas is that the lining is fabric and tore all up after a couple years. The lining on White's is about the same as the exterior leather of the other boots. The exterior on the White's is much thicker than the other brands. I think that the price difference is justified for around $350 or so for a substantially better build quality.
