  Silicone whisk that won’t fall apart in my roux?

  I got this Williams Sonoma one a few years and it’s super solid (which one would hope for the price, it wasn’t quite as high at the time) and the whisk is actually stiff enough as well. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/williams-sonoma-silicone-french-whisk/ They have balloon, etc style as well. The handles are quite heavy which is the downside to it. If you have a local Williams Sonoma I’d check them out.

  Not Corelle Please! Chip-free dinnerware

  I recommend white porcelain dinnerware. Someone mentioned William Sonoma catering plates. I have them but they are pricey. I would just go to Target or Amazon. I worked at Crate & Barrel in my college years. I learned that porcelain is more durable than stoneware and earthenware. I use white porcelain as my every day dinnerware. I have gifted Corelle to my adult sons who just moved out on their own.

  I love my Williams Sonoma Pantry dinnerware. I have had a bowl break when dropped on really hard floor but that has been maybe one dish in over a decade, and I’m not gentle with it! It still looks new and feels premium. I especially love the soup/pasta bowls, which are AMAZING for salads and the like. If my house burned down on a fire I would buy this exact set again.

  I’ve started caring less about new and more about enough

  I absolutely adore good quality kitchen stuff. In my mid 20s I thought a Williams Sonoma gift registry for my wedding was out of the question because I could never ask anyone in my family to buy anything from that store. Fast forward 20 years later and I’ve bought it all myself. 🤣 And now it’s sad that I have a fully stocked kitchen with really great quality pieces, and I have nothing left to buy. It used to bring me great pleasure to plan a big purchase, save for it, and go get it. But yeah, I’m content with what I have now because I’ve gone through the purchasing phase.

  Recommendations for coffee machine - single serve?

  I own a stainless steel V60, but personally I would buy a stainless Kalita wave or even a 185 cone for more consistent results if you don’t want to mess around with grind too much. I find it a bit odd your last machines have been K-cup machines but then you say the most important thing is no plastic. To me that just seems super weird.  If you want a more automatic experience, Moccamaster makes a little dinky “single serve” version of its excellent machines and they are most definitely BIFL.   BIFL Quality Knives that Last

  What’s something you’ve had so long it feels like it’s legally part of your family

  I inherited 3 pieces of the 1970s Corningware bakeware (with the original glass lids) that my mom had collected. I don't know how she still had the lids after all those years, but those dishes get used at least weekly at my house. They sit beside my Le Creuset casserole dishes and my Williams-Sonoma pie dishes, looking good as new. I'll pass them along to my step daughter when the time comes, if she's interested.

  i have no idea if they're still manufactured this well, but my mom gave use a bunch of williams sonoma kitchen towels and pot holders like ten years ago. they get washed like twice a week and are still in incredible shape - just a bit faded.

  I should've listened... shopping for flatware is a nightmare.

  When we moved, I found a fork behind my china cabinet! Guess one of our kids put it there. You might find a couple of pieces in your move. Most likely, your kiddos threw out forks when throwing away a paper plate. I've almost done that before. A few years ago, we bought a heavy set of flatware from Williams Sonoma, 16 place settings of [https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/hampstead-flatware-place-setting/](https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/hampstead-flatware-place-setting/) It holds up well to use and going through the dishwasher but is so heavy that it falls off the plate if you are walking to the table with a fork resting on your plate. I'm thinking of using our antique sterling silver as it's lightweight and beautiful. I'll save the heavy WS for when we have company and need extra flatware.

  Hello BiFL! I'm looking for ideas to put on a wedding registry! (Canada)

  Recently got married myself. Some thoughts: Kitchen Stuff: - Le Creuset Dutch oven, frying pan, and anything else, really - Staub Dutch oven, honestly might be longer lasting than the Le Creuset. I own both and the Staub is much heavier duty. - Wüsthof chef knives, go for the Ikon Classic line, best feel and bang for buck. - Schott Zwiesel wine glasses, omfg buy these yourself if you must, the “Pure” collection is basically indestructible, have had multiple of them fall off of counters/coffee tables and miraculously not break. Also their DOF and other bar glasses are great. - Mannkitchen Pepper Cannon, my most-used kitchen tool, indestructible and absolutely BIFL - ThermoWorks, instant thermometer is a 10/10 VIGL product, also their RFX wireless thermometer if you like to grill or braise stuff for long cooks. - Stainless steel and teak wood utensils. All clad and Williams Sonoma make great stuff - Marcato Otello pasta roller machine, this thing will be the most legit vintage looking tool in your kitchen, will produce the best pasta you’ve ever had, will impress every guest, and make you look like an influencer on the socials Other Tools: - Leatherman multi-tool. I’ve had mine for a decade now. - Stihl products, chainsaw, leaf blowers, trimmers, etc - Weber products, grills mainly House: - get a head start on quality picture frames you will ultimately need for your wedding photos. People don’t think about this, but after the wedding you’re probably going to have to spend another thousand on prints and frames for the photos. - quality hardware like candelabras, etc - pretty plants that will last a lifetime, big monsteras, citrus trees, fancy orchids, etc.

  Looking for an extremely sharp chef's knife?

  The only real answer is to sharpen your knives. Get a couple stones or a sharpening tool and in 15 minutes you will have the sharpest knife in town. It gets easier with practice. If you really don't want to put in any effort just buy a 200 dollar electric sharpener and your good to go. Chefs choice pro has been recommended in many subs. I bought one used and rarely use it to its full capability as I don't want any family members to lose a finger when doing knife work.

  Do you think BIFL is actually cost effective?

  If you use it everyday day I think it does save money in the long run. For example I have Williams Sonoma coffee cups that I use every day. After 25 years one of the six cups has a chipped handle so I only have 5 in circulation. They were well worth the extra dollars. Tools I buy middle of the road because I am a DIYer and don’t really stress them.

  Unpopular Opinion: "BIFL" as an excuse for overspending

  Aw. That sucks! Well if it makes you feel better my rule of thumb is if the item in question is something I gotta look at alot that justifies higher expense. I spent $20-$30 *per* Williams Sonoma serving utensil and Idk if they'll even last forever (welded wire handle, discontinued so had hunt a few down via resale sites and paid exorbitant shipping). I coveted them and knew I'd spend forever buying others that I would end up being replaced. And I would be displeased every time I washed or used them. These give me peace and happiness when I look at them. By contrast the measuring cups and spoons are an el cheapo brand that has similar handle.  Imo you can have what you want, if you can afford it and it brings joy.
