A good pair of stainless steel general purpose scissors can last a lifetime.
I have the Wiss scissors (and Pinking Sheers) bought for my grandma when she was taking sewing in high school.

A good pair of stainless steel general purpose scissors can last a lifetime.
In case it helps anyone, I did a deep dive on scissors last week because I wanted a nice pair for Christmas. The list of brands I ended up with was: * Ernest Wright * Gingher (acquired by Fiskars) * Kai * Fiskars * Wiss

A good pair of stainless steel general purpose scissors can last a lifetime.
I have a pair of Wiss scissors that I bought used about 10 years ago. They are phenomenal and still cut better than newer pairs I've gotten and I've never sharpened them or anything.

Looking to replace every single item we own
> For scissors, go with Fiskars Fiskars is a good brand from Finland, but the last BIFL scissors I bought were traditional type Wiss (nickel-plated I think) and [these](https://www.amazon.com/Cucina-Napoli-Kitchen-Multi-Purpose-Stainless/dp/B0DBR7TRXY). Previous to that, Buck shears, not the traditional scissor pattern but the kid that come apart into two pieces for cleaning. I gave a set of these as a gift, and the recipient thought they "came apart" and threw out a brand new pair, so I only gift the kind with a traditional screw connection. Cutco makes a pair similar to the Bucks, but the list price is frankly insulting for a pair made of 440 steel. I'd buy a set at 80% off, though.

What’s one thing you bought once and it’s still going strong years later?
I bought a pair of wiss Taylor's shears from the late 1800s when I was 13, and I'm still using today at 42. They are almost the same

ISO the Best Buy for life fabric scissors!
You do need to get your scissors sharpened even if they are great. I like classic gingers and have a set of wiss from my mother. But I've bought 16$ livingo steel ones off Amazon I like just as much.

ISO the Best Buy for life fabric scissors!
Wiss Scissors (US or Italy made) or anything made in Germany. You can buy vintage Wiss shears and sharpen them and they’ll still be better than almost anything you’d buy new.
