Looking for a pepper grinder that doesn’t leave a mess (and won’t fall apart in a year)
I have 3 spice mills made by WMF in Germany. They work extremely well and stand with the grinder on top. They also have a lid. Here's an Amazon link. Source: Amazon.com https://share.google/PzjfZCwdHk0e3F8cn

What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
Pepper Mill. I bought a nice WMF many years ago when I was a student. It's lived in all the countries I've been in since and I love it. Smooth and efficient

What's the best brand to get some pots and pans set from
I have no idea but after my last coated pans went bad I got stainless steel cookware by wmf. Too recent to call it BIFL, but they feel like quality and the price was reasonable.

Electric stainless steel kettle?
Which market? European kettles are really nice but if you want to use one in North America you would need a 240V circuit, which you may already have, but is a factor. I have a WMF 3kW kettle I really like. German market model, running on a NEMA 6-20 outlet in the US.

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
My WMF pressure cooker is used every day (both as a pan and as a pressure cooker). Occasionally I have had to buy a replacement seal but still great.

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
Agreed that WMF makes decent cutlery, as well as some utensils, but besides those, they're not BIFL. Zwilling does it (far) better imo. It's not very obvious for the average consumer that DeMeyere is part of Zwilling, so I pointed it out specifically. SEB also owns WMF, Tefal, and Krups, just to name a few. Tefal and Krups are definitely not BIFL I think. I just eplied to your comment because it listed WMF and so did the OP. Don't worry about it, we're all here to learn and share our experiences! It's nothing personal :)

A list of BIFL not made in the USA
WMF does everything, not just pans. and I kind of have Demeyere covered, as it is part of the Zwilling group (like Staub). Mostly though: feel free to add it to the thread in a nice, constructive way. Most of us are posting brand names in between doing other, more important things in our lives. There will be small errors, and missing foot notes.

Toaster-like small appliance recommendations?
Wmf have "kitchen minis" I find that our toaster from that collection is quite stylish. With it being ablong, it permits also slices from bigger loads of bread, as well as handling relatively thick slices of bagels (but it has it's limits) It has a Defrost mode, a single side mode, and you can adjust the heat. The only mode I don't approve of is the "heater", which is designed for you to put something on top of the toaster. It runs so short, nothing ever gets hot. We've had ours now for 5 years, which ofc makes no promises of true longevity, but it functions as new still.
