  I bought some $10 Wrangler's from Walmart a few years ago on BF sales. I was surprised at the cut and they fit me well and I went back and bought two more pair. Of course, that was probably 2-3 years ago, so life might have changed. Great for every day wear. All I ever wear is jeans except when I go out for a hike I have some Columbia light weight hiking pants.

  Just found out wrangler sells raw denim jeans for $15 bucks at walmart.com  Currently on sale for $12  Also I concur with the wool statements and I'd just research into older textiles and why they were popular back then because they are just as useful in the modern day as they were 100 years ago  Leather boots are another great investment and go well with many outfits

  Jeans that don't fall apart after a year or two? Been wearing these Wranglers and the quality is cheap sweatshop level. Is there a specific type of denim or another material I should look for if I want something long lasting?

  Idk about anyone else here, but let me say, I had bought the 13mwzs for awhile, would always give out after a few months especially in the crotch. I bought 10 of the carpenter riggs jeans from wrangler while they had a sale, that was 5 years ago, I just recently had 2 of them rip on me. so if you're looking for a good pair of work jeans on the cheaper side buy those. recently branched out and bought some cinch and ariat rebars just because i like the fit better as the riggs are advanced comfort and relaxed fit and all that jazz.

  Diaper Bag Recommendations

  A couple of donts first: -no cross body tiny bags: you’ll have a heavy bag, especially in the first few months. A backpack style is way easier on your back. -Don’t go for the overly cute designer ones: most of them fall apart or are impossible to clean. -Avoid ones with a stiff zipper or magnetic flap Now there are a couple of brands that people around me rave about that also adjust these reqs, babbleroo is probably the top one and wrangler might be a close second. Both have held up well for friends who’ve used them long term. So the final choice kinda just depends on which look you like better.   Came here to comment this. If you live near a city, go to a good will. Waiting for my moving pod to be delivered and I started a new job this past week- I bought a pair or wranglers and George pants for a combined total of $50. On like my second day of work I stopped by a local goodwill on a whim and found the *exact* same pair of George pants for $5. Can find some good brand shirts too for $5 or $6 as well. A few years back I found a Mango brand button up that was like $90 for $5.

  Wife wants a high quality leather purse for Christmas (NOT “luxury” brands)

  Wrangler actually has a line of leather purses now. Its not a flashy name, but my wife has three, and really likes them. They are very well made for the price I feel. We live in the Midwest so that might play into it aswell.

  Madewell jeans - not a bifl!

  Quite frankly, currently, buying jeans new is shooting yourself in the foot. The only good reason to buy new at all is if you need a rare size (if you're plus-size or very small, namely). Otherwise, you're overpaying for undermade garments. There are good brands out there, but they are few and far between, and overpriced regardless because they appeal to that denimhead market, not "people looking for durable jeans". Just buy vintage Levi's or Wrangler, something like that. Won't break the bank and will last you long enough.

  Because they closed their American factories and moved production overseas but kept their prices at the same level in the name of greed. Haven't bought a pair of Levi's since they did it. Rather get some Wranglers from Target or Old Navy jeans and replace them every 5 years or more.

  Bombas Socks have really let me down. Any recommendations welcome!

  I just started wearing wranglers new brand of socks from Walmart called wrangler workware or something to that effect. I bought some and after a month I went and bought 3 more bags. Obviously they aren't going to be as good as some specialty brands but I absolutely love them and you can get them at any Walmart. I walk around 30,000 steps a day for my job and will wear holes in normal socks very quickly. These have held up great and they are extremely comfortable and not too hot.

  Been buying wranglers the last 8 years and even the ones with elastane hold at least 1 to 2 years. Usually the pocket seam goes first. Never had a blowout at the bottom.

  I have vintage Wrangler jeans that feel bulletproof. Stiff, thick. The label recommends drying on high heat and I feel like with these jeans, it's probably a good idea. Every other jean would probably fall apart.

  Best value quality ive found is Wranglers. The 13MWZ cowboy cut jeans are quite heavy fabric with an even color that wears in pretty attractively if you're working in them. These dont have any stretch, but the fit is pretty nice and accommodating imo. Even their cheaper stretch waist ones seem to hold up better than other cheap jeans in my experience, but I can tell they will give up sooner or later. I'm 2 or 3 years in on mine with the stretch ones with probably 2 or 3 wears a week. My cowboy cuts are a little over 1 year old with much less frequent wears because theyre my "nice jeans" but feel much the same as my old ones I had working at a state park for a few summers splitting wood, cutting trees, digging, etc. The old pairs took all their lickings and kept on ticking, I just got too fat to keep them lol.

  Clothing and footwear brands that hold up over time

  I tried levis but they wear so easily, it makes them comfy from the get go but that's not a priority for me as a good pair will wear in. I now buy wrangler Texas jeans and they rock. Really good quality denim. I also bought a heavy canvas jack for a company called "&sons" in the UK and it's an amazing jacket, synonymous with me now. Shirts are mostly thick cotton, I don't really get stuck on brands but if you see a farmer wearing it, it'll probably last. A pure wool jumper is great, if you can withstand the scratchiness until you acclimatise. Boots are the bane of my existence, I spent years wearing German para trooper boots which are amazingly hard-wearing but they are so thick and heavy, they're just not suitable other than hiking these days. My punk angst is no more. I have had success with Ariat though, not as hard wearing but I've had my pair for 4 years now and they still look great. Some tips for looking at outwear, look for double stitching, solid buttons and zip, robust eyelets, no glue anywhere and avoid anything that says breathable, if it a natural fabric it'll be breathable Quality clothes wear in, not out.

  So I’m in the Wrangler Camp. Love those jeans. You can get them raw. So I have found ways to keep them lasting longer. Even with heavy use. One. NEVER WASH THEM. This isn’t a joke. I’m serious. I’ll put them out in the sun, I’ll steam them. Stuff like that. If you absolutely must wash them, handwashing, hang dry. Also, buy two at once alternate them every other day. They will last three times longer easy. Same with work boots.

  Longer-Lasting Wrangler jeans alternatives

  Fitted Underground Dean fit: These are 99% cotton, 1% elastane, I have them in gun metal and they are fantastic. Medium rise, slight taper, high back pockets. Also, Mister Freedom Lot 64 have a similar fit. These two are going to be SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than the Wrangler 13 and 47MWZ (which are my favorite jeans ever, especially for the price). Keep in mind that with most selvedge jeans, you are getting raw or Sanforized and the weight is going to be dependent on what you get (the two examples are, IIRC 13/14 ounce denim and Sanforized). The examples I gave will last about as long as the Wranglers for 5-6x the price. My advice is to stick with the wranglers and get used to patching and repairing to have them last even longer. I’ve made some fun repairs on mine, but jeans are not BIFL, especially if you wear them daily and/or work in them.

  How to identify good quality clothing (so you don’t waste your $$$)

  100% nylon pants last ten times longer than jeans including the heavyweight cotton duck canvas Carhartts. The material slides and as a result, doesn't wear like cotton does. It is oil and water resistant, so you can sweat in them all day long and they won't get bacteria growing in them. Cotton does, which causes it to stink. If you are on the taller side, or just generally bigger, you put fabric under more stress than a typically sized person does. It tends to wear out faster, as a result, in areas where you bend or flex causing it to stretch the most. Knees, crotch, around pockets, etc. 100% nylon won't wear out in those areas. I used to go through several pairs of good quality jeans a year before stumbling upon inexpensive Wrangler Authentics 100% nylon pants which cost half ghe price or less, dependin on if I could get them on sale or not. I have pairs that are fifteen years old, only been worn in sun, high heat, extreme cold, muddy, sandy, nasty outdoor conditions that look as good now (if slightly faded) as they did the day I got them. They also tend to be super easy to clean. I have to wash clothes in pretty hard water that is high in dissolved mineral content. Just washing a pair of jeans alone in that water causes them to fade and wear, *in the washing machine*. The nylon pants don't do that. And they don't stain easily in general. Blood, grass, oil all just wash off. Don't even need speacial stain removing cleaners. Warm or cold water and soap is all you need. Unfortunately they aren't made anymore and when you get them, you generally need to get them tailored to fit (which is easy enough to do as they were made baggy originally, and it doesn't cost much to do if you can find a tailor, seamstress, or can DiY it). I absolutely believe the pants will last me the rest of my life. And I am not going out of my way to "care for them properly". In fact quite the opposite, I will wear them to paint, do yardwork, go hiking, etc. Anywhere where there's a good chance any pants I wear could get ripped, torn, stained or damaged beyond repair (for a reasonable price), aka anywhere where I need a throwaway/dispossable pair of pants, I wear them. And they've survived the worst with not signs of any kind of wear or damage. Nylon is the synthetic version of silk and silk has many of the same properties, but it can be stained more easily (nylon has to be colored when it is made, dye can't be easily added after it is made, silk can be dyed). The next best for durability is wool (believe it or not) but wool is more susseptable to wear and tear and insect demage whereas heavgweight nylon is not. And nylon is what parachutes are made out of. It's durability is insane. People prefer polyester (which produces more plastic fiber waste when wearing) because of the feel or stretch nylon though and the elastic in that wears out super fast. The fabric is also thinner and, while it looks okay, it tends to wear out much faster than 100% nylon alone. Other manufacturers do still make non-stretch, 100% nylon pants but they are expensive. Mine cost a max of $25 US. Theirs tend to start at $125 and go up from there. Most are for first responders, commercial fisherman, etc. though, so they have added fire protection as well as being generally just heavier. Some are for hikers and hunters who need the ability to stay clean and stink free in the backcountry, far from the nearest faucet, lake or river, let alone washing machine and to be able to deal with thorn bushes aka brambles.

  There are no bifl jeans. Imo there are no better value jeans on earth than Wrangler 13MWZ/936 Cowboy cuts but isn’t a popular style for everyone. Probably especially if you’re buying in British pounds lol I have a pair of selvedge Filson Rail Splitters that are heavy weight and have really held up well for a high end pair of jeans.

Cheap enough that you can work in em without feeling bad, but decent enough that they are presentable if you haven’t covered them in oil, grease, or dirt. lol If you want to show off a little bit…get some Japanese Selvedge from somewhere like Ironheart… I have a couple pair I’m lusting after…but I don’t have other expenses I gotta make before I can pull that trigger.

  Get denim that is all cotton. The stretch that youre talking about is 2-5% elastine added to the fibers. Also, find your price point. You can spend $50 of $500 on a pair of jeans. As for brands, below is a small list: Levis, Wrangler, Lee, Naked and Famous, Ciano Farmer, Momotaro, Oni, Kapital etc.

I have 4 pairs of Frye boots. I think I either purchased them secondhand or was gifted all of them. I’ve also had 3 or 4 pairs of their shoes. Granted I don’t work outside but they’re generally handy for any yard work, painting, boating in the cold, etc. * My Girlfriend Collective products have held up really well over the years. I’ve heard some of the reviews were less good recently (so frustrating) but everything I’ve gotten has been good. I have 2 sports bras, a onesie/leotard/wrassling suit, a tennis dress, and a pair of leggings. I prolong the use of my stuff with mending and fixing it when I can. I haven’t had to mend the pants or girlfriend collective stuff.

  If u want looser selvedge i think naked and famous strong guy fit is pretty loose fitting Not selvedge but u can get a pair of raw relaxed denim from prisonblues for like 50-60 I usually just get dickies or wranglers and make sure i get the 100% denim, regular models

  Work is paying for me to get snakeproof/waterproof boots, what wont immediately fall apart?

  TLDR: LaCrosse Grange and Rattler brand snake gaiters for water/muck less than 18 inches deep. Probably looking at US$180 for the combo. No boots will be waterproof if it's deeper than that. Then you use waders unless it's hot. If it's hot it's better to just wear synthetic blend (quicker drying, non-cotton) pants, merino wool socks, and non-waterproof boots you don't mind messing up. Longform for anyone who may be in the same situation, or looking for more long-term solutions: For almost 20 years I have worked year-round in Texas swamp, desert, rocky slope, Piney woods, and everything in-between, kicking a shovel the whole time. I wear a combination of boots and snake gaiters. My gaiters are Rattler brand, and I'm usually wearing them just for thorny brush or vines. I don't wear them when it gets above 95° F. I only ever wear two types of boots: Zamberlans (really expensive) and La Crosse Grange 18 ($100). I can hike all day in either, and both are waterproof; Zamberlans are Gore-tex and breathable and LaCrosse are rubber and NOT breathable. Zamberlans are about as BIFL as waterproof work-hiking boots can get. I'm on about 3.5 years on my current pair and they're still waterproof and bombproof as they were day 1. Similar quality brands are Alico, Meindl, La Sportiva, Danner, and Lowa. Asolo may fit in there somewhere, but they've fallen apart on me before. The LaCrosse are gonna be like 1/4 the price of the Zamberlans, but they're just rubber boots with a shank (this is VERY important to have in whatever boot you get). They'll last a good long while and are super comfortable for rubber boots, but eventually their tread wears down, they get holes, and the material will break down, probably after a year of frequent use. If you're gonna be in legitimate swamp, where it's over 18-inch deep water, then snake gaiters and waterproof boots ain't gonna do shit for you anyway. They'll just weigh you down, which is more dangerous than snakebites. If you're in hot weather, I don't recommend thigh, hip, or chest waders, either. It's a recipe for heat stroke, which is also far more common and far more frequently deadly than snakebites. Better to just wear all quick-dry clothing (I wear Duluth Flex Firehose if vegetation is thick...otherwise I wear Wrangler ATG quick-dry pants) and boots that you won't mind messing up each day. To help take care of your feet, wear merino wool socks. Any merino wool blend will be better than cotton. They'll be more important than your boots if you'll be wet all day.

  My boyfriend wears Levi's to work (manufacturing) and rips through a pair about every 3 months. They don't last but he won't switch - Wrangler's have never let me down!

  I have a pair of slimmer cut very dark indigo, wrangler rustlers that I wear as my dressier jeans. I agree with the others, though, a slightly different belt, shoes, and shirt can totally dress up any pair of jeans.

  Get Hanes beefy shirt, solid color, I prefer black ones that are made of 100% Cotton. Other colors sometimes use elastic materials. They are sub 10 dollars on Amazon. Not buy it for life but I have ones from 5 years ago, they still feel like new. Wrangler jeans are pretty good, often enough they are 50% of the cost of Levi's. For polos, shirt, and pants. I recommend find a friend to take you to Costco. Their garments are amazing with cost to quality ratio.

  I just went through this same issue. 100% cotton seems to be the pick. I switched to all cotton 505’s and wrangler 47mwz’s. It is a switch going to a straight leg from a slim but I do feel more comfortable overall. The cotton feels better. We’ll see how long these all last.

  I’m 6’2 235 lbs (washed up athletic build) in my mid 30s and switched over from Levi’s to Wrangler 13MWZ last year. I love them. I wear original because I have huge legs but they also have skinnier fits including an active line with 2% spandex.

  Lightweight full zip jacket/fleece for remote work

  I would look at linen or something like that, maybe a chambray type work shirt It's button up, fancy enough to wear for work, good to wear for actual blue collar or work, et cetera. The Wrangler one that I have is about as heavy as, say, a calamia sun shirt button up, but actually looks like a fancier shirt.

  Wranglers are good and cheap. Levis are trash these days. Old stuff is good but you won't find it. Kirkland signature is unironically one of the best for the money out there if you have a Costco membership. I have been using Carhartt rugged flex for a while now and have no complaints. A tiny bit of elasticity in them feels nice. I wear loose fit and actually wear them around my waist like I'm supposed to. You clearly aren't doing that if you have the crotch go. Your inseam is too low on your body and when you spread your legs via squatting down etc you are over stressing the inseam because of where it is. If it was higher up closer to your berries it wouldn't have to be pulled on like that and would never rip. Wear your pants higher up around your waist like you're supposed to OR buy jeans that specifically fit to hug your hips. Kirkland/Wrangler/Carhartt are good brands. True BIFL jeans are several hundred dollars a pair. It doesn't make sense to buy them that way. Cheaper to buy 10 pairs of wranglers and get 3 or so years out of each of them than it is to buy a new pair of BIFL jeans for 300$ every 15 years.

  Question about jeans

  There are work pants with double knees and builtin kneepads out there. I believe Duluth and 5.11 Tactical have some of these.  And there are some brands like Wrangler that try to have tougher seems holding the crotch together because they are designed for riding horses.

  Underwhelming 1620 Pants

  Wrangler Riggs have been great for me. I bit the bullet and got a pair of 1620 for work but I hated the fit. When it comes to work pants i like a truly relaxed fit all around but presentable. Hated the front rise in 1620, very uncomfortable. I get the vibe 1620 is like yoga pants for the working man.

  Jeans! I Need Help Badly.

  I've always been rough on my work clothes, and I spent a few years working in outdoor equipment sales, including a lot of workwear. I like the Wrangler Riggs in canvas, but my one pair of jeans ended catching on something and tearing. That was several years ago, and they may be better made now. As far as Carhartt jeans, the fit doesn't work with my build- I like a higher cut waist. I've been wearing the Tractor Supply "Ridgecut" house brand, which have a gussetted crotch, reinforced seams, and a dedicated cell phone pocket behind the right hip pocket. Not much for options in color or fits, but they really hold up great. Best of luck!

  WRANGLER ATG pants!! On their website they run 40-50ish a pair. BUT target and Walmart have cheaper versions of those same expensive pairs for about 25-30. Super stretchy and comfy and pretty durable for me working in a warehouse for a manufacturing company as well.

  All kinds of stuff if you don’t buy cheap. Danner work boots help me make my living. They’ve lasted for years with some basic care. My dad bought them for me, and wear them too. You can find a myriad of quality tools. Axes and saws can be well made, but they’re not the cheapest. Most tools fall into this. Kitchen knives are easier than ever to find high quality stuff, with greater variety. Pocket knives too, heck I can get all kinds of specialty knives that’ll likely outlive me. Firearms I suppose are also in this category. As far as clothing, you can still find high quality clothes if you know how to shop for them. I still have wrangler pants that are going on several years now, their original cowboy cut denim is still reliable. I also love the wrangler Riggs work pants. Could probably continue but if you want to spend some money you’ll find plenty of great products.
