What’s the BIFL item that you love but everyone around you thinks is ridiculous?
Zojirushi water bottle 0.95l capacity. 15+ years now, daily use. Full of stickers on the outside. Wife laughed at it, MIL jokes at it, they all want me to get new one. X-acto pen blade. 20+ years now, daily use. For anything that need cutting. Crafts, 3d prints, boxes, even good for small surgeries. What not to like, easy to use, built like a tank, just replace the tip when dull. And yes, already used up maybe close to 100 tips after 20+ years.

Electric pencil sharpener
For a first grade classroom, look for a heavy duty model like a staples or X-acto classroom sharpener. They're built for frequent use and tend to last longer than basic home models.

What is the longest lasting item you've bought?
That *I* bought ... that would probably be my X-Acto carving set I bought when I was a kid in the early '70s ... one of my earliest purchases. However, I didn't buy, and still very regularly use, my grandmother's 1917 knife (high carbon steel blade, solid cast aluminum handle).
