  Longest lasting video game controllers?

  The current regular xbox controllers are good and it’s a real plus that they have replaceable batteries. I also recommend the 8bitdo ultimate 2 as an alternative. It feels great, has Hall effect sticks, and the charging dock is great. Controller turns on as soon as you pick it up and the dock has the wireless receiver inside it.

  My 2010 Xbox 360 controllers are still running strong, though the left analog stick on one is literally starting to disintegrate. 15 years.

  Longest lasting video game controllers?

  I've never had a stock Xbox controller die, ever I got an Elite Series 2 and the left bumper died after about 200 hours of playtime. I got a SCUF Instinct Pro and the left bumper died after about 600 hours of playtime. I have another SCUF Instinct Pro with about 1000 hours of playtime and its still going strong.

  I have a first gen xbox elite that is going strong, I just spend \~$10 USD every couple years for new rubber grips that just snap on.

  Anything with that level of moving parts is that is used often is going to fail. Best to use regular maintenance and to do self-repair.   Elite series 2 core wireless wxbox controller feels nice and seems sturdy. I just replaced my old controller i wore out due to mhw when i bought wilds.  It had many thousands of hours on it.

  BIFL, but also BISecondhand. What are some things that everyone should keep an eye out for, but can commonly be found for cheap when preowned.

  Shit, I buy most big ticket stuff used, I'll do a quick list of the things that comes to mind: **Electronics:** * Laptop - refurb Dell Precision * Desktop - used HP Z2 G4 plus RX 5700XT * Terra master NAS and surplus HGST hard drives * Xbox controllers * Camera - Canon 5D MkII + Tamron 28-75mm f2 * Watch - Pebble Time **Household stuff:** * Kenmore laundry center * Frigidaire dehumidifier * Panasonic microwave * Swing-a-way can openers * Cuisinart food processors * KitchenAid mixers * pots and pans * bakeware * Clothes, mostly Eddie Bauer, Chacos, LL bean **Tools:** * Toro lawnmower (from the side of the road) * Used spare parts for lawnmower * Bosch jigsaw * DeWalt router * Milwaukee weedeater * Pole saw attachment * Sawzall * Impact wrench * JBC soldering station * HP oscilloscope * Tektronix power supplies * Kikusui DC loads * REED LCR meter * surplus RF cables and connectors Most of these didn't require any fixing beyond some light cleaning, and in most cases I would say that I got a good deal. Even paying the upper end of market value for the used market, you still get a much nicer product than what the same money would buy new, and you get to help keep more unnecessary stuff from being produced Its a bit intimidating to start buying expensive stuff online, but once you get a feel for how sellers in a particular niche tend to advertise and document things, you can get a very good idea of how the things will function.

  Gaming consoles. I think the introduction of 3D printing has done a fantastic job of being able to do a DIY refurbish on something like an Xbox, a Gameboy, etc. Unfortunately sometimes buying a whole new refurbished console from Gamestop is sometimes cheaper than doing a repair (e.g., my Gamecube laser disc reader assembly) but for some things like a Gameboy it's great that the console itself prevents my game cartridges from becoming e-waste.

  Xbox One S vs Series X/S controllers- so disappointed

  Yeah that does suck. This is probably just anecdotal but my Xbox 360 controllers have lasted me like over 15 years
