  Water Bottles - but with a straw that is easy to clean

  This is an older thread but I had a yeti 26oz screw top. After maybe a year or so of having it the extruded thread on the handle part became weak and no longer lined up with the grooves in the spout part. One day at work I was carrying the bottle with the handle when the whole body fell off of the screw top handle because there was nothing to grip in the thread because it was basically warped and flat I then switched to the straw lid which I hate with a passion. It leaks. All. The. Damn. Time. Drinking from it? It leaks. Put it on its side? It leaks. It's also nasty. Sooo hard to clean. The section where the mouth piece pivots and connects to the actual lid is so gross and impossible to clean. But other people love them? I loved it at first because they seem really good quality and they do keep ice solid for a very long time. So don't get one imo. It's what brought me here looking for a new option.

  My husband got be a Yeti water bottle and a pair of Glerups slippers and I am surprised by the difference those items have made in my quality of life. I was going through crappy water bottles constantly, and my slippers were garbage.

  I see a lot of Contigo travel mugs like this at the thrift store. Just popularity or are they problematic?

  Contigo used to be good.   But they seem to suck now. That's why they're at the thrift stores and stuff.   I purchased three of these for Christmas gifts. Filled them full of fun stuff and have got the report that all three of them leak.    Looked it up on another post here and apparently that's not uncommon.   Never had any problems in my Yeti cups other than the price.   Yeti cups don't seal as well but they keep stuff warmer longer and these continue cups are leaking out from the collar so it's almost undrinkable with the lid on which kind of defeats the point.

  Water bottle for my girlfriend

  8 years ago I grabbed an RTIC water bottle and (here is the key) FOUR SPARE LIDS. I am on my second lid and the brand has changed lid designs at least once. Any stainless water bottle will be around forever. The plastic components, springs, straws and so on will be what fails. RTIC, KLEAN KANTEEN, YETI will all serve you well as long as you buy spares of the parts that can fail.

  Had a similar experience with a Yeti tumbler from a client meeting - thing's been through hell and still keeps my coffee hot for hours. The logo's barely visible now but I still think about that company when I use it Crazy how a $30 cup can build more brand loyalty than a whole marketing campaign lol

  Gift received: high quality hoodie from Equals, a SaaS company, for being an early user. I wear this thing all the time. It’s about 5 years old now and it can only be described as the high quality of the item you are referring to when you say “they don’t make them like they used to”. They made this one like they used to. Gift given: been on the operations and logistics side of this several times. Best one I still use is an Away suitcase. We got them for our whole team (did a credit to Away and gave out codes so people good pick what they wanted and put it towards a bigger case). Honorable mentions: Maui Jim sunglasses, Yeti items with a very small and out of the way branding.

  I'm the graphic designer for a company, and the selection of these items usually falls to me. I go for quality over quantity. My favorite picks have been: Patagonia outer apparel, YETI ramblers, and promotional socks from Sock Labs. Multiple thread colors can create really janky fits in socks, but not these - they're seamless. Incredible work. I haven't gotten one of our Nalgenes yet, but I know they're also popular.

  Not quite what you are asking but just adding. . . I worked for a company that did high quality name brand stuff then branded it in a removable way. For example a nice yeti or hard cooler with a company sticker they applied instead of engraved. Some people removed it right away, almost all kept it. The stickers maybe lasted 3-4years then they would start peeling unless you were careful but every 6 months or so at events or just part of random treats they would also include more stickers so you could replace add to them if you wanted. It was kind of cool too because some of the long term people would take care of there's and have a bunch of the stickers from different years. One lady had one of the first ones they did (I think it was an old CamelBak bottle) and she had it badged with stickers from every year for like 15 or 20 years or something. I still have that yeti from when I was there and it works awesome. I also don't work for the company anymore so it's probably better I don't have company merch permeantly. The stickers eventually started coming off so I removed it. The company was also acquired so the name isn't applicable anymore but I still have an awesome yeti that goes on every road trip.

  I work with truck drivers, and their boss puts a lot of thought into gifts. My personal favorites are: Yeti coffee mug, that's 4 years old and is stained on the inside, but otherwise perfect 2 different Stanley water bottles. They're not my dailies anymore because we got a bigger off brand water bottle that I prefer. Carhart winter coat. 2-3 years old and seriously the best thing I've gotten. RTIC lunch box. This is getting dirty but other than that, looks good for almost a year of near daily use. This isn't branded because boss didnt order in time for that, but still free

  I just checked their reccs for French Press coffee makers and - stay with me here - the Yeti 32 oz French Press is the best I’ve ever used. They don’t even mention it. It keeps the coffee hot - but even better, the plunger is one way. So once you plunge your coffee it has no contact with the grounds. and stays hot. A little coffee stays with the grounds, so you can swirl the pot to pour out the grounds and the pot goes in the dishwasher easy. I was doing a cup at a time with an Aeropress and it got lost while I was moving. I drink a couple of cups every morning wfh and after reading reviews - decided to try it.

  In my opinion, good options are the RTIC 64-ounce vacuum bottle or the YETI Rambler 64-ounce bottle (usually closer to $100). The main thing is that the wider the neck, the easier it is to put ice cubes in, so look for models with a wide neck.

  What water bottle is the best for Anti mold?

  if you are the type of person who doesn't wash their water bottle after every use (not making a judgment), do not let your mouth touch the bottle. drink by pouring into your mouth. it gets less nasty that way. the first thing to smell kinda moldy is the silicone ring that provides the seal on most bottle lids. if that happens, you can gently remove it and soak it in vinegar; make sure you don't damage it with something sharp, because you'll create cuts and holes for more mold and bacteria to grow. after that, any dishwasher-safe steel bottle will fit your needs. kleen kanteen, yeti, etc.

  I am new to this sub so haven’t seen the hubbub BUT my partner has a preference for metal water bottles that fit in his back pocket. He also likes to flip them sometimes and inevitably he’ll miss and get dented. The cap getting dented it the end of it. We went to a Metallica concert and got a yeti coffee/water bottle from it. Doesn’t fit in his pocket and not the right size for flipping. Perfect condition lmao.

  Yeah, if she wants the “throw it in a bag and it won’t leak” then you’re looking at the classic Stanley mug linked above. If she wants the easy to sip lid, then Yeti has a couple options. If she wants “fits in a cup holder in the car” then I think the classic Stanley one is out but some of the 16oz yetis will work and you have your choice of colors. Both brands will stay hot (or cold) for quite a few hours.

  Yeti. As far as I can tell they're indestructible. Lids are interchangeable which means my family doesn't need to worry about whose parts are whose when we wash them. Plus all of the gasket bits are removable which makes it easy to thoroughly clean them.

  Yeti Ramblers. I have their 12oz(*drink on way to work*), 18oz(*home use*), and 36/46oz(*work winter/summer*) bottles, plus a Yonder for extra water in the summer. The Ramblers all have modified HotShot caps to basically add a carry ring. Also one of their mugs for water(*lid keeps cat from sticking her face in it...*) Though they can fuck off with the new thing of all their <20oz mugs/cups having a ceramic lining. If I had wanted a ceramic cup, I would have bought a ceramic cup, not a steel one I can beat up and not worry about it shattering.

  Ya I got a 20 oz and 30 oz Yeti probably sometime around 2018 maybe 2020? And I have used each one at least 5 days a week. Take my coffee to work in the 20 oz and have my water in the 30 oz. Fits in all my cupholders and the lids are great. Can take the gasket off, the mouth piece, and put all of it in dishwasher. They still look pretty good too. Wife follows the trends more with the whole cup thing but these have worked for me throughout the stanley, brumate, owala stuff coming out.

  My 40oz Hydroflask is about ten years old. I use it with a "Wide Flex Chug Cap" when mobile so I can drink out of it without spilling [in the car]. I use the standard top for air travel because it reduces the height by an inch or so. I use a 30oz Yeti Rambler around the house as my water/tea glass. My whole family has older (~8-10yr) Kleen Kanteen 20oz bottles with a sort of sippy lid they don't make anymore that we use for hot tea/coffee when hiking/camping/sports. The only bottles we've purchased recently are smaller Rambler tumblers for my wife & daughters and a large Rambler tumbler with handle for my son, and my older daughter has been using an Owala bottle as her daily (that she received as a birthday present from a school friend). I see no reason any of these bottles won't last arbitrarily long assuming none are physically destroyed. Overall, we're very happy with both Hydroflask & Yeti (and Owala if you like straw bottles) -- both are a cut above Kleen Kanteen in quality.

  Swear by my Hydroflask and Yeti water bottles. Hydroflask has gone with me all across the world for nearly ten years (including war zones) and is dented to hell but still great. The Yetis I’ve had for a couple of years, only because I needed something bigger than the Hydroflask. They’re all insulated and have handles and are sturdy AF. I can’t see changing brands!

  For home use, I have to have a gallon, non-opaque water bottle with a straw, and preferably also a chug cap. I've only found HydroPal ones so far that fit all of this, though they're certainly unlikely to last more than a couple years of daily use. Out of the house, I just use a 40 Oz Yeti tumbler because they hold up well and fit in a cup holder

  Still using a 21oz hydroflask from 2016 almost daily I’ve dropped it so many times. It’s even fallen off my car roof about 3 times and it still has many years left. Surprisingly it only has a handful of dents and the paint is still near perfect except for the bottom. I recently purchased a Yeti 20 coffee mug and it’s even more sturdy (albeit, significantly heavier) than my hydro flask, I’ve been using it for coffee/tea daily. It has a small chip but no dents. If you care about dents and less about weight go with yeti. If you want a lighter bottle and you’re ok with dents I would get a hydro flask, just know that it WILL get dented fairly easily/quickly.

I basically swap between it, a larger version I got from Steel Beast, and a 48oz Nalgene for backpacking. Given the mold growth Ive found in Nalgenes before, Im really more partial to the steel.   Yeti is my favorite too. I found out that if you have a custom engraved one.. initials, logo, etc.. they will replace it if it’s damaged. You just have to leave the QR code on the bottom intact. Truly a lifetime warranty.

  I have different ones I’ve picked-up over the years, each has a specific purpose; especially the coffee cups. I learned years ago to not cross contaminate between coffee and non-coffee receptacles. * Water cup: 30oz Yeti tumbler (free à la work) * Coffee cup: 20oz Otterbox tumbler (free à la a buddy who used to own my local outfitter). My backup is a 14oz freebie traveler mug from an activity I’ve been helping run since 2014 (cup is from 2015). * Ice tea cup: 20oz insulated Bubba tumbler * Water bottle: Nalgene (I cycle two — 2002 Philmont one, “normal” one I picked-up before hiking Sandia Peak in 2018) and a Guyot Designs 24oz stainless water bottle (gotten around 2012)

  Through various needs and gifts, I have acquired RTIC, Yeti, Hydroflask, Nalgene, Owala, and Hydrojug. Honestly all have been great. They each have their pros, design wise. I kind of avoid the Nalgene now because of microplastics, but keep it due to the memories with it. I’d say Hydroflask does straw top best, Yeti does chug cap best, RTIC is a ‘cheaper’ brand that works just as well, and the Owala is great because it’s both chug and straw, both completely covered by the secure cap. I have the Hydrojug stainless shaker and it has seemed to show its beatings the most. I’d say purchase based on cap style and color you like the most, I think most of these brands will last a very long time.

  Many don’t know yeti come with a generous warranty. I’ve have two brand new replacement tumblers because they were no longer staying cold. Also warrantied a $300 soft side cooler because the zipper broke, they sent me a brand new one.

  I have a yeti 40 and hyraflas 32 or 36, can't remember. Both seem to perform equally well as far as I am concerned. I just didn't think about it until after that the 40 is too big for cup holders and a lot of other things. And that didn't seem like that big of a deal until I remembered that this includes a lot of backpacks with sleev cup holders, door storage compartments, etc.

  I got a knock off yeti in 2019 and it's gotten well worn. It's had 3 different lids and stickers that come and go. It's gotta to the point where you can see the sun bleaching around where the old stickers used to be. An owalla sounds nice for the built in straw/pour feature, but the economy sucks and all my upgrade money is going to insurance.

  i have a yeti thing that i bought when i was on vacation and didnt have a water bottle. its metal with a strong af thick plastic cap that screws on that you drink out of, with another screw on lid that closes the thing. its built like a tank and ill likely have that until i die, but my daily bottle is some random thick ass glass bottle with a rubber 'sleeve' over it and a hinged lid that makes a satisfying 'pop' sound every time i open it to take a drink. im not sure what the brand is. i got it like 10 years ago at either target or the container store. glass is the way.

  I graduated highschool in 2013 and remember being one of the only kids with a water bottle I carried all day. We didn't even have working water fountains when I was there and the school didn't install water bubblers until a few years after I graduated, so if you wanted more water you basically had to pack it all yourself 😭 My go tos are usually a 32oz Nalgene and my Hydroflask if I want something insulated. I have nerve issues in my hands and drop & knock over my big hydroflask all the time and it works just fine. Has lasted me 2 baseball seasons being lugged around in my car and baseball bag and occasionally getting knocked over onto concrete in the dugout and still works perfectly. I think Yeti makes great water bottles too if you want insulated. Yeti cups are indestructible and if you register your products on their site they'll send you free stickers which I just think is neat. I tend to buy mine at TJ Maxx. I always find Yeti cups and Hydroflasks there for cheaper than retail. Also starting to see Stanley cups there now that the trend has died down a bit. I don't own one, I think those giant stanleys just look ridiculous and you can't fit them in a regular water bottle pocket of a backpack. But I did put a Stanley 8oz flask and their french press coffee maker on my Xmas list this year. And I have a Stanley thermos which is notorious for being BIFL.

  Not true. My Nalgene I had since the early 2000’s dropped on pavement and burst into numerous plastic shards. Now I use one of those YETI tumblers that someone gifted me 7 years ago or so and yes it’s def dented on the exterior but the interior has held up well and still keeps my water super cold. I do still have a backup Nalgene that I’ll use on mountain hikes to reduce the weight.

  What do you need the newest and greatest for? Just be a few generations behind and replace it if it breaks with the next thing. I'm still using my Bodum travel mug from like 2012 for warm drinks and my Nalgene for water, and when that breaks it's on to Hydroflask, and then Yeti mugs, and then those goofy Stanley cups, and if I'm still alive then I've no doubt they'll have made many exciting new products I can buy.

  Yeti - It’s definitely tougher than Hydroflask and Klean Kanteen, and the insulation is first rate. But truly, much of the reason for sticking with Yeti is the little aftermarket plastic mesh screens that fit inside of the Yeti chug caps. No more small ice cubes clogging up your chug when you’re at your most thirsty. Absolute life savers.

  The chug lids are screw tops and spill proof, provided you screw it on all the way. My husband and I both have the Yeti chug bottles. We like em because they’re dishwasher safe and essentially indestructible. My husband also uses one of the older model Yeti coffee cups with the slide lids at work. He left it on someone’s tailgate and they drove away with it there. He found it in the median with a few dings and scratches, but it was otherwise totally intact and still usable. Even the thin plastic lid was fine.

  Longest? I have Nalgenes I bought in the 1980s still. They are yellowed but work. But I don't use them much anymore. My favorites now are all Yeti, Hydroflask, RTIC, and Kleen Kanteen. Every one was thrifted, so cost my $6 or less. All are basically the same insulated stainless construction; the only meaningful differences are the tops. They work great. I have a bunch since I keep them at home, at work, in the truck, and we're using them with the entire family. That said, I have a dozen or more that need to go to Goodwill, mostly plastic ones I'll never use again. Most of those were gimmes from work or conferences.

I own a total of 3 bottles/cups (a straw cup, a spill proof bottle and a coffee mug) and I use them every day. They were a great investment for me and wash really well.

  Lovesac sectional sofa, my Wustoff kitchen knives, my Yeti rambler. Every day. Sofa shows zero wear after 5 years. Knives are like new after 35 years, and that Yeti is perfect for smoothies, and cold or hot beverages.

  Are you guys on well or city water? I didn't get the "water tastes bad" until I lived on a farm with well water for a year and tried to drink filtered city water. As for water bottles, we like Yeti and Stanley. I regularly carry a 35oz yeti with the plastic straw and it has minimal plastic taste. Nice thing is the bottle i carry now does fit in a cup holder.

  Glass is really what you are looking for to avoid the plastic taste. Unfortunately for me, I’m clumsy and have broken two glass water bottles. So, plastic or metal it is for me. I can usually taste the plastic in water bottles so several have ended up in the donate box after one or two uses, but I’m currently quite happy with the Yeti Yonder. I have the 25oz one which meets all of your requirements besides being 32oz. They sell a 32oz version, but I’m unsure if it fits into standard car cup holders.

  I absolutely love the Yeti Rambler. the clear lid lets you see through (although the sides are an insulated metal wall), and it's trivial to clean with the wide open top, and dishwasher safe.   Water Bottle. There are some flashy ones, some with fun designs. But a good one, like a Yeti will survive for years when treated poorly and still just function. Things like lids can be replaced, and if you are willing to commit to hand washing, can always cover up nicks and such with a nice sticker.

  I have a Yeti and 90's Stanley. The Stanley wins for heat retention. I have a 2020's 1/2 gallon Stanley that's better than both of them by a lot. I think a larger thermos holds better than a smaller one even if made the same.

  The thing is, my family's Zojirushi bottles haven't needed any replacements for anything... I like that the Yeti is heavy duty, but unfortunately for me, that was a double edged sword because of the weight, so I opted for the lighter Zojirushi. It's nice the caps are replaceable, but I'm also not planning to replace anything on the bottle for as long as possible. Hopefully mine will follow the family bottle and never need a replacement for anything.

  I think they are definitely big enough to be very durable. They are deep enough you shouldnt have to worry about them wearing out by getting too think and they have a wide gap between each one.   Yeti IS overpriced, but it’s absolutely BIFL. Thick steel, thick plastic, replaceable double seals. Hydroflask is good but the carrying band can rip, I have an Owala that I love but the lid hinge is flimsy and will break eventually. If you hate Yeti you haven’t tried one or you can’t afford it.

  I bought a Zojirushi because it was highly recommended on subreddits, reviews, videos, etc. I hated it. It just collects dust in my cabinet. 1. One small drop and the thing was dented... badly. 2. There are so many small parts and pieces. I almost immediately lost one of the lid pieces while cleaning and it's been unusable ever since. 3. There are so many nooks and crannies to collect coffee spots that are hard to clean. 4. It's so damn small. It barely fits any liquid. I got my first Yeti Rambler 26 oz. through work. I've since received a second Yeti Rambler 26 oz. and a Yeti Yonder 34 oz. as gifts, and absolutely love them. They're even personalized, so that's cool. My first Rambler has a lid that leaks water into it when tipped over, spilling out when I take off the lid, so they aren't without their issues. I couldn't get a warranty replacement for the lid, because I didn't have a receipt. I'll probably buy one of their new lids. But they are simple, nearly indestructible, and keep beverages hot or cold for literal days. I've dropped the stainless Rambler from 5'+ multiple times and can't even find a scratch.

It has a simple old system that shouldn’t ever fail and it has survived quite a few drops onto concrete. Owala is making my favorite day to day but the lid will 100% eventually fail.   The old green Stanley has been the measure of this for decades. The one note, if you really want your beverage to stay warm fill the thermos with hot water 10 or 15 minutes before your beverage is ready. Then replace the hot water with your beverage. Preheating the thermos will keep it hot much longer. The same is true for coolers. Put ice in your cooler the night before you go out. A pre-chilled cooler will hold ice much longer. Apparently Yeti makes a thermos too but I'm sure you pay for the privilege...

  I suspect that there are other brands that hold up to a lot, but I know for certain that Yeti is extremely durable. Mine has fallen from a decent height (while full and therefore HEAVY) onto concrete and survived with a tiny scuff. My youngest takes it to school now and I swear he TRIES to destroy things and though the paint is scuffed up, I have no doubts about the integrity of the bottle. Ours is an 18 oz chug bottle.

  I have Yeti, RTIC, BruMate, Members Mark, and CamelBak.  .The most insulative has been Members Mark and RTIC.  . The longest lasting exterior coaking has been CamelBak.  . The least staining inside has been Yeti and RTIC. I'd definitely get a wide mouthed style for dishwasher cleaning, and the uncoated outside, just because that gives out first, but will lose a bit of insulation.

  A lot of cheaper ones don’t hold up in the dishwasher because they’re sealed with melted glass rather than welded shut, and the vibration of the dishwasher causes the glass to crack and the vacuum to fail. The pricier models (Yeti, etc.) weld the vacuum chamber shut and those hold up. A brushed stainless finish will also hold up better against dishwashing.

  I second yeti. Yes it has some plastic parts but they are minimal for the purpose of easily disassembling for a dishwasher or hand-wash.   Yeti Rambler with chug cap. No tight crevices so easy to clean and basically indestructible. Have had my 36oz one for about 4 years now and no issues after multiple high impact drops

  Most stainless steel ones will be good. I'd recommend a relatively popular brand such that it's easy to get new lids or seals down the line if you ever need. Mine are IronFlask and I like them, but HydroFlask, Klean Kanteen, Yeti (I actually work down the street from their HQ!) are also all good. I'm sure there are others that are also good! You'll need to clean them occasionally regardless of brand. Not doing so will make them stink, but if they do stink they can all be cleaned of that easily. If you get mold, a little bleach can clean it. Just don't let it sit since it's caustic. Denture cleaning tablets are very good at cleaning them in general. For a mild clean, just soap and water.

  Not a bottle per se but my little boy has had his yeti rambler tumbler for 2 years now. This is a kid that was breaking a plastic equivalent every month. It's been dropped quite possibly a million times at this point including a drop down the stairs and is still good not even a broken plastic lid or straw.

  Just get the Yeti rambler. Don’t worry about the people who will always say they’re overpriced, there’re much better bottles for the price….and on and on it goes. I tried at least 6-8 other bottles before giving the Yeti 46oz rambler a chance and I’ll never go back. I remove the gaskets and clean them regularly and there’s no smell at all. I can’t say the same for other stainless steel bottles I’ve owned. Same cleaning procedures followed, yet many of them still somehow developed a smell overtime. I use mine every day, on multiple construction sites, to the gym and hiking. It’s my only water bottle.

  I like my Yeti Rambler. It has a plastic "chug cap", similar to a regular water bottle top, so no silicone mouth pieces that get all nasty. I had to throw out other water bottles because the silicone parts just never got clean enough.  And, unlike a Stanley, this bottle doesn't leak and it came with a handle but in the lid so it's easy to carry. Even if my hands are full I can just slip my fingers through the handle part.

  I'm not trying to be a bandwagoner. And I was so against Yeti for ages but received one as a gift 7 years ago. I use it daily, have it banging around in a work truck and boat regularly. Have dropped it a few times. The finish hardly has any scratches whatsoever and theyre way easier to clean than a contigo. If any thermos is BIFL it's Yeti.

  A $5 Brooks Brother beach type bag that I got probably 10 years ago that serves as my lunch bag. 12 oz Yeti tumbler that I got for making a $50 donation to an Alma Mater. Great size for coffee. Stainless steel cookware. Paid more than $50 for everything, but you can get decent pieces for that amount. Durable and cooks well. Shoe cabinet in the entryway. Probably paid $50ish. Keeps shoes in wear regularly organized and can keep my keys/bag/miscellany stuff in a tray on the top.

  The Yeti 6oz stackable insulated mug with the little handle. After 2 years of daily use it's exactly the same as when I bought it - it fits perfectly under my espresso machine and is wide enough for both sides to pour straight into it. So I brew my espresso directly into it, and the espresso stays warm and sippable for an hour or two. It's $35, a 2-pack so you can occasionally be lazy cleaning it, I use it every single day, and it changed my life because I bought a $100 espresso machine and stopped spending thousands of dollars a year on coffee.

  A few things I basically always have on me that I'd recommend. Merino Wool hiking socks. I haven't had athletes foot in years since I switched to these. I got the Costco brand people here like Darn Tough Socks 46oz Yeti hermos. Keeps stuff cool for long and it's survived many falls including one down the side of a mountain. They regularly go on sale for under $50. Canary Box Cutter. I cut boxes open all day for my job and this knife is my goto. It's a serrated safety knife and it fantastic at its job.

  Aren’t vacuum sealed cups like Yeti hand wash only? From my understanding the heat of a dishwasher can compromise the vacuum seal and cause water to build up inside the lining of the cup. I’ve had a powder coated Yeti for 10 years that I take literally everywhere with me… and minus some very small dents on the bottom, it still looks like the day I got it because I hand wash only.

  I have a few of these mugs. I love that they seal up tight, and they keep stuff warm for a relatively long time. I have two main issues with them though... The lids are fussy to clean, and the plastic that the lid is made of over time starts to hold onto flavors and make your beverages taste weird. I find it is an issue with when you put the lids in the dishwasher (they are dishwasher safe), the lids quickly end up tasting like dishwasher soap. A third minor issue is that the paint tends to peel off pretty easily. I've replaced mine with Yeti mugs which I find to be much better other than they don't seal up as tight as the Contigo mugs.

  > The one drawback is keeping the Autoseal lid clean. This is the *principal problem*, and it's why I swapped (back) to a basic Yeti tumbler with a magnetic slide latch. Easy-peasy to clean with nothing but a sponge, and it does the insulation/spill prevention well enough.

  I ditched mine when they wouldn't sell me a new o-ring for the lid. They would go through warranty but wanted me to submit photos and request a new one. Forget all that for a 2cent piece. I switched to Yeti and can buy the replacements lids now. Autoseal is better at sealing for any leaks but contigo was just a pain to deal with.

  Same. I've tried them all - Yeti's plan stainless steel is the best. Their powder coated ones aren't bad - but won't last a lifetime of dishwasher washes. Heat & chemical exposure will degrade all powder coatings over time. Or - there are a lot of borosilicate glass ones if flavor is the priority that have silicone sleeves for drop prevention. Replace the $0.05 lid and seal and you can have sets which last forever (until dropped) and are much cheaper. Or, Fellow has some amazing looking ceramic coated travel mugs (I think it's their 'carter' line, but they have a few styles now) *if* and only if you'll always hand wash them every single time. They *will* fail in the dishwasher, and their powder coating is nowhere near as good as Yeti, rtic, Stanley, etc.

  My favorite travel mugs hands down are Planetary Design and Yeti. Both have survived repeated runs through the dishwasher and also the lids are simple so there's no nooks and crannies for ick to build up, which is the real problem with Contigo.

  We have a large Yeti tumbler that has a wide mouth but also a screw cap that turns it into a bottle with a smaller sip hole, and an additional screw cap that closes it completely. I remove the caps, fill halfway with water, and let it freeze overnight. The next morning, I top it off with water, and it stays cold and icy for 12+ hours, even if I add more water during the day. Crazy thing is, we've had it for a couple of years, but I just discovered how great it is. I often use 32oz Nalgene bottles, but the condensation just pours off the bottle as the ice melts, soaking my entire bag, desk, etc. The outside of the Yeti stays dry.

  Since all modern refrigerators suck, what features would a BIFL fridge have?

  Temperature sensing, door-ajar sensing are legitimate features. They just need to be simple and modular, not some piece of already-obsolete corner-cut tech shoved in there permanently. One option for modularity is not to put in any sensors at all, just a [screw-in insulated plug or two, like a cooler drain plug](https://www.yeti.com/coolers/coolers-accessories/23010000000.html). Buyers would probably want this in a hidden place, along with the power cord. If the plug was standard, then the user could pick a sensor package that could use whatever protocols they wanted, or just a simple one with a [tiny alarm](https://mspindy.com/) and flashing light. This could potentially deprive the refrigerator maker of vertical integration and monitoring-subscription fees, but this modularity is going to happen sooner or later so they might as well be an innovator and not a [laughingstock](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_refrigerator#History).

  I’m sorry but my husband has been gifted *more than one* personalized flask when he’s served as a groomsman at friends weddings, and they just get shoved in the cabinet and then years later, sold at yard sales or donated to goodwill. Do people really use flasks? And this is for a dude who does drink. If you want to do a yeti or something, pocket knife, whatever- that’s cool but I wouldn’t go the personalized route and I DEFINITELY wouldn’t have it say “groomsman” on it. 🙄 The best way to personalize something is to pick something different for each of them based on their individual interests- not get them all the same item with their name or wedding title on it.

  Looking for Water Bottle that will be BIFL.

  Hate to be that guy, but I have a 12 year old yeti that, although has seen better days, is still hands down the best waterbottle I’ve ever used. It’s been showered with welding and torch cutting sparks (I’m an ironworker), it’s spent time rolling around the bed of a pickup for hours on end. Dropped from two stories up multiple times. Fallen off of moving vehicles both on and off road. Literally cannot break the damn thing. It’s misshapen, scarred, beaten and bruised, but that damn thing still keeps shit hot and cold for a day or two. So much so that I bought the whole family their own as well.

  I haven’t found a BIFL cooler that I like having on the kayak or the raft outside of my yeti. I don’t rely on the latches though, I use NRS cam straps to secure it closed if I think we might flip.   I like my yeti 8 qt cooler it's great but apparently not many are actually waterproof since they leave a gap to let hot steam escape. Yeti has been great otherwise

  Where do you go camping. When i am in oklahoma or Texas in the summer I might have to add ice to the drink cooler more than once a day. With my yeti style cooler I can can go about 2 days in the food cooler. 9 hours on the boat in the sun and my igloo is struggling.

  I have a small Yeti that I got as a gift and it's my favorite cooler simply because of how long it keeps ice. It's best to "pre-chill" these types of coolers by either placing it in the fridge/freezer overnight or using a sacrificial bag of ice. If you do that then ice will hold for well over 24 hours. My little cooler kept ice for nearly a whole weekend keeping things like milk and eggs quite chilled for my entire trip. It was great, so I'd say well worth it.

  If you’re car camping, get the nice cooler and deal with the weight. You don’t need as much ice, it stays cool much longer. If your ice is almost melted by morning, that’s a food safety issue if you have anything perishable. For comparison, I have an older yeti that would keep a large ice block solid for probably 3-4 days, at least.

  Beach Chair Suggestions?

  I got the Yeti Trailhead (I think?) and it was expensive, but I was working a 1099 and could write it off for my security job in a parking lot (and I also used the IDme discount). It’s super comfortable and I think they have a 5 year warranty. The mesh is kind of springy and it just feels good. I have tried multiple collapsible chairs and hate them all. The Yeti has nice backpack straps on the carrying case also, so that’s a plus.

  100%. I have both a soft and hard sided Yeti. The hard is amazing, soft is basically useless after a couple of hours. As has been mentioned, pre-cooling the hard cooler is key.

  Klean Kanteen, Hydroflask or Yeti. Yeti: I love the chug cap on Yetis, but they are heavier, don't hold as much volume for the size, and IMO don't hold temp as well (very marginal difference). They do seem more durable than Hydroflask or Klean Kanteen. Did i mention how much i love the chug cap. If hydroflask or Klean Kanteen had a similiar cap, i'd switch. Hydroflask: they come with a lifetime warranty (or at least they used to so double check), super light, but not as durable IMO. Klean Kanteen: more durable than Hydroflask and insulates super well. They are also a Certified B Corp if that matters to you.

  Short answer is yes. Longer answer is that you don't need to sped Yeti money to get the performance of the Yeti. Any rotomolded cooler will suffice. RTIC performs as well and cost less, for example. Also, if you want the best performance, pre-chill the cooler 24 hours before you stuff drinks in it and make sure the drinks are pre-chilled as well. With everything pre-chilled, you should get at least 4 days out of block ice (depending on the size of the blocks).

  If you want to avoid plastic completely, go for stainless steel inside and out. The Owala FreeSip stainless (not the plastic version) is solid, but if you want something more minimal, look at Klean Kanteen or the YETI Rambler bottles. Both are tough, insulated, and no plastic touching the water. Just double check the lid, some have small silicone or plastic seals, but no plastic contact with the water itself.

  Which bags (for men) do you recommend when going to the beach?

  I have an orange yeti tote that is awesome. It has inside zipper pockets one both sides and pop-in side pocket I can fit a thermos in and it stands on its own. It’s high enough that it keeps sand out pretty well and it is waterproof. Spoiler: I got it for mother’s day and our 1yo and 3yo could fit in it standing up. Definitely not a girly bag though, just a bag.

  Depends on what you need to carry but I’ve enjoyed the RTIC waterproof tote so far. It’s pretty hefty quality and has a waterproof pouch for smaller devices. It’s very simple but is big enough for towels, drinks/snacks, etc for multiple people and easy to clean out afterward. Alternative would be an RTIC or Yeti portable-style cooler (“softer” models with a shoulder strap, not the hard coolers)

  I didn’t downvote you, but happy to point out why I think you are. In reference to the post, the fact stainless steel isn’t immune to rust is irrelevant, since it’s not the reason it looks like it does. The poor quality of the steel used and poor quality finish are. With regard to the mistake being having boiled tap water, also irrelevant. A competent water bottle wouldn’t have this problem. Like I said; been using boiled tap water for almost ten years on my zojirushi, Yeti, Doppler and other thermos bottles and none of them have this issue, after literal daily use with boiling tap water. You might feel like you’re contributing technically correct statements, but they’re not relevant to why this bottle is of poor quality.

  They were Yeti clones for cheap and I'm not sure if they make identical ones anymore but they do still make the Yeti ramblers. I kind of assumed the same overseas factory made them all. Anyway the double walked vacuum all stainless steel with the only seam in the metal being outside of the bottom Yeti clones are super sturdy

  Damn, that’s just… trash metal? I use a lot of yeti products, all perfect after a few years, one of them is for daily hydration and I use Celtic salt and lemon’s every day, no rust. Stanley are RIP in peace. Yeti will eventually be the same, that’s just how companies operate. Be the best and then cut costs.

  Yeti thermos is the worst

  Thank you for the insight, as I wouldn’t have found this information elsewhere unless I have them on hand. Insulation is very important for me, I mostly use these thermos on the beach. I have an off brand insulated bottle from Amazon. Works well, but my Ice is already melted 2-3 hours in. I suspected it may have been the cap, but wasn’t sure. I’ll definitely be buying the old triplehaul caps off eBay for sure now(couldn’t find them on the official website)

  Ice maker, Yeti lunchbox, cast iron cookware, ceiling fans, dual-fuel generator, solar panels. Super firm Otis futon mattress (on a Room & Roard steel frame with no box spring) has saved my husbands’ back. Got a Nest thermostat for free from our gas company back in 2018. Its energy save mode is super helpful.

  Yeti thermos is the worst

  I’ll make it simple for you. Honestly, if you’re the type to finish your water by the end of the day, and refill anyway, you’re fine with the chug cap. It’s arguably easier / nicer to drink from as it prevents the water flow from just going all at once through a big hole as it’s more similar to a regular plastic bottle. However, it lacks insulation unlike the old triplehaul cap (I’m unsure whether or not there is any on the new chug cap, but I believe there’s less at the very least.) It will still keep your water cool for the day, but I find my ice usually has melted, but by that time I’ve usually finished my water anyway and am due for a refill. The triplehaul cap keeps it cooler, I believe due to the thicker insulation and the fact that there’s no plastic bit, unlike the chug cap. Also with the chug cap you do have to keep it clean, as it is plastic and it can develop a smell if you’re not the type to clean it regularly. You can search this on reddit to see others’ experience of this.

  Miele vacuum, yeti ice chest, Matouk towels, wooden hangers, especially ones with rounded shoulder areas. Might seem silly, but “his and hers” Victorinox Swiss Army knives, I use mine almost daily and have gifted many as wedding gifts. You can get them engraved, which is fun. Or, ask for Leathermens, this is another I gift but to couples who are more outdoorsy.

  My kids play travel sports so we live in these chairs. Alpine alps King Kong: Affordable(ish) ~60, but is wide, has a good height, can hold up to 600 lbs I think, good storage, has lasted me 6 years and has been beat to hell Expensive: yetti. Sure, you don't want to spend 300 but that damn chair is amazing. Keeps you cool in the summer bc of the mesh, the end of the seat rolls so it doesn't cut into you, large cup holder, really well built and sturdy

  I bought silicone straws. Not sure they’re BIFL. They do fit into our Yeti and other brand mug lids. I cut the end at an angle to avoid suctioning the straw to the bottom of the mug. Bonus: used straw goes in the sink and I’m off to work with a fresh straw. They’re also flexible and can be folded into a lidded bottle.

  i think you’re spot on that the straw complicates the BIFL aspect; if you’re down to put BIFL first and reconsider straw, [consider the “chug cap” from YETI](https://www.yeti.com/drinkware/hydration/21071507219.html) it doesn’t entirely solve the ice sitch, though i have found it to be better than using an unrestricted wide mouth might be that some combo of “chug cap” and large form ice mold (that will take a long time to melt down to a size that can pass through the chug cap) might be your best way forward if straw is an a must-have, YETI also has a flip-out straw option and the straw itself can be replaced or duplicated (w/ replacements from YETI, CamelBack, or other retailers); for sanitation’s sake, consider getting multiple straws and a straw brush so that you can remove, clean, sanitize, and rotate out / replace straws

  My yeti is about three years old. It keeps cold stuff cold but I couldn’t tell you for how long. I fill it about 3/4 full of ice cubes and by the third cold water refill most of the ice is gone. It’s got a straw because I also use it for coffee and the straw means I can keep my eyes on the road easier than tipping up another type to sip. I abuse both regularly, both have a couple of dents (with matching dents in my driveway) from being dropped. They get washed (straw also)on the top rack of my dishwasher. Spare parts are also available, but I’ve been lucky and haven’t needed any YETi (pun intended).

  I kind of look at this like what things would I immediately repurchase if lost or destroyed (not including electronics) and the first that come to mind-- a yeti water bottle and a yeti mug for tea, Birkenstock Arizonas in either black or cognac, Duluth trading no yank tanks, Fantasie side support bras, classic short Uggs (great house shoes/slippers when it's cold.) I'll also never be without either a kindle or a kobo if I have a choice. I'm also stupidly loyal to cetaphil gentle face cleanser, cerave and vanicream moisturizers/lotions, and Aquaphor.

  My Glock17 - I have many other guns and do not want to get into what kind of gun is stupid or better, but this one just keeps on keeping on. Over 20 years of reliability. Benchmade knife - not sure the exact model- another 20ish year old item that blows my mind I haven’t misplaced it. Yeti 1/2 gallon water jug thing - was gifted this after saying I’d never get one due to price and it’s stupid, but dear lord do I put it through a beating. Keeps ice cold forever.   Project Farm recently tested tumblers again, although the Zoji-whatever ones mentioned in comments here wasn't part. In keeping hot only Stanley and Corkcicle got an A+. Contigo and CamelBak an A Milwaukee an A- Yeti and BruMate B+ Other ratings were subjective, corrosion resistance of Stanley worse than Corkcicle as well as spills. Stanley more leak proof though.

  I love my Yeti tumbler. Fill it with hot tea in the morning and it's still warm well after lunchtime. I don't care about it being scalding hot, it needs to be drinkable. There is a point when a product works too well. My dad has an old Stanley thermos that he fills with fresh coffee in the morning and he uses that to refill his Yeti mug. It's funny to watch him carry his two part system around. His Stanley is at least as old as I am. I'll be 40 this year. 😅 I remember as a little kid dad filling that Stanley with coffee first thing in the morning. And stories when I got older of him stopping at the local convenience store to fill it up. The ladies who worked there had it down when he worked and made sure a pot was hot for him. It has so many dents and dings but still works a treat.

  I have a yeti 32 oz rambler with the screw top lid, Ive had it for most of a decade. It’s kept my tea hot to the point of needing to pour it in a separate cup to drink it even overnight, in negative temps through blizzards and nor’easter ice storms while I was homeless for years. Has survived repeated drops on concrete and gravel without any notable scratches. Works just as well for iced drinks. Ive kept straight up ice cubes in there for 3 days without any melting. If you prefer it to have a smaller thermos cup, or a straw lid, or similar, they offer a variety of different lid options, I just recently got a straw lid and it works really well, but I think it insulates slightly less. Also, the rambler is EASY to clean, it has a huge opening, and a super solid handle. The smaller sized ones work just as well, but I haven’t owned them long enough to say BIFL, but they seem the same as the 32oz rambler.

  I use a Yeti for my morning coffee. I generally get my coffee between 6-7 in the morning and there are days where I will take a drink in the afternoon and still have warm. not hot, not even warm hot, but still warm. It also depends on how much I make sure to keep the lid spout closed. When its closed more, it stays hotter longer.

  Yeti.  I have a travel tumbler with a sip top that was gifted to me years ago.  I can leave it in the car during the summer with the last dregs of ice cubes and coffee in it and it will still have ice in it when I come back from a shift.   I also throw it into the dishwasher, it’s very easy to clean the top and it doesn’t look beat up.  My husband (electrician) has one too though he doesn’t use it as often.

  Having owned both the Zojirushi and the Yeti, I’d take the Yeti every time. More robust construction, more colors, and plenty of spare parts available. Also the Zojirushi lid had a lot of nooks and crannies that were hard to clean.

  What is the BIFL Cooler?

  Yeah, got the email. Bumming for sure. Kong never got the cache of Yeti so here we are. My cooler is still bulletproof. Admittedly if I break off the hardware (I legitimately can't see how other than physically abusing it which is not on the manufacturer. More likely to hurt myself than it first) replacements seem much harder to come by. It's still a retention superstar. I've lived off grid for 10 days and still had just over 40 degree temps going from ice purchased at the start. If anyone finds one used, it's a deal and a half these days.

  Yeti 18 oz with the straw lid option. Fits in a backpack bottle holder, the car cupholders, lid unscrews easily, and ice lasts a long time. I had one for years (with stickers!) that I left in a Love’s bathroom somewhere between TX and OR but luckily my husband decided he likes a Stanley better so I took his. Yes they are $$ but if you don’t forget it at a truck stop they last forever!

  Love Yeti. I have water bottle and coffee cup that both fit in my cars cup holders. Both insulated so they remain cold and hot for hours. The water bottle has a cap that doubles as a handle so you can carry it around. Both dishwasher safe.

  what's your ideal water bottle

  18 oz yeti with chug cap. I have RA/PsA and hands are affected. This is small enough I can lift it and the top handle is friendly-ish for people who have trouble opening things for hands and wrists. No leaks. Can take getting beaten up. Fits in all bags and drink holders. Not super heavy like the big ones but still holds as much water as those plastic disposable ones people buy at the store. I have larger ones but they’re less user friendly for me. I’ll often take a larger one and leave in car to use for refilling the smaller one.

  I have a Yeti one I love. Also have a Nalgene, good bottle, but I prefer the smaller mouth of the Yeti. I’m prone to spill with the wide mouth Nalgene lol.

  Water bottle suggestions?

  We’ve somehow ended up with many of them in our family - Hydroflask, Yeti, Kleen Kanteen, Owala, and the Stanley water bottle version. Honestly, they’re all pretty comparable, but I do like that I can refill the Owala without taking the lid off and it seems to hold ice the longest. That said, I’m still most attached to my 40oz Hydroflask, I’ve had it for 8 years and it’s held up great and easy lids to replace.

  G-shock watch, leatherman surge/wave, saddleback leather wallet for over a decade and some size Yeti usually a 36/46oz bottle or a cup in whatever. Hope this helps

  What’s one item you bought that way outperformed its price?

  Yeti camino 35 tote - for the longest time i thought the only Yeti products “worth” buying were the ones that keep things cold (coolers and drinkware). With 3 little kids, our yeti bag gets used any time we leave the house. It stays open when you set it down so we just set it on the floor and tell all the kids to throw their crap in the yeti bag before we leave. Saves us like 10 mins of time whenever we leave the house with the kids

  I left my Yeti full of ice water in a digger bucket in the Australian northern Territory sun for 10 hours, and came back to it still being ice cold. Can't speak highly enough of them. Also had it for nearly 5 years and still going very strong.

  I'm surprised you didn't have luck with the Stanley Ice Flow, I have had one for years and it and my Owala keep ice cold for over 24 hours. I went to an event on a Saturday, left my Ice Flow at the venue and it had ice in it still when I picked it up Monday evening. I also got my kids Yeti 18 oz water bottles with their names on them. I'd almost dare them to lose them now, but they are skilled forgetters.

  I’m late but you want a Yeti Rambler; I prefer the chug cap. I drink a gallon of water a day so my bottle is literally always in reach. Of course there are many similar options but the build quality on the Yeti is easily noticeable in my opinion. Owning both, I think I could use the Yeti bottle to beat up my Hydroflask like it’s an empty soda can

  I got a custom Yeti Rambler 42 oz straw cup for my birthday this year with my name on it lol I love it for around the house! I bought two for the house actually, the other was the clearance mint green one. We have some yeti coffee mugs too. I still use my 64oz insulated Takeya from Target form like a decade ago and it works great but it’s heavy when filled with ice water and long story short I got hit in the head with it and don’t want myself or my toddler getting hurt in the house again so.. Ramblers for the house!

Also a Klean Kanteen my now wife gave me that was already beat up for when I need a container I can toss in a bag.   Reusable coffee cup that fits a boba straw

  I know that's why I want the option to do both. I want to be able to drink cold drinks through the straw and sip hot drinks from the lid. The issue I'm having is that the ones that fit a straw have the hole in the centre so I can't sip from it. I will look into the yeti mugs though because that is high praise :)

  What is your current BIFL item you recommend to everyone?

  My last cooler was an Igloo. It’s nowhere near as good. It’s fine for a day. For camping it’s really bad and won’t last a weekend in Texas. My Yeti was 1/3 off. The warranty is great and although it’s expensive I don’t regret the purchase. It’s a tank.

  You shouldn’t use a metal straw with hot coffee that is asking for injury. Why not just sip through a lid like a normal person? My yeti mug with hot shot cap is the best travel mug ever. I have two so I can wash and rotate. I abuse it horribly and they still look new after years.

  Stainless steel bottles warning - these bottles may contain chromium paint on the inside of the neck which may get scratched by the lid

  Yeti Ramblers are the way to go for stainless steel bottles. Worth every penny. Hands down best water bottle I’ve ever had.

  Backpack for college

  Raven is a great bag. Tom Bihn Synic or Synapse are in the sale line. The Mystery Ranch Urban Assault 24s are very fun bags. You can still find those online. The new version is the Yeti Ranchero, which while nice is almost double the cost.

  Nalgene and yeti makes lightweight ones now too. I have a 48oz nalgene and a 50oz yeti I always bring hiking and to the beach! I also love owala they make smaller bottles that have a straw and I love it. I put all of these in the dishwasher :)

  I have a few hydrapeak 72oz jugs (basically a cheap yeti rambler) I found at TJ Maxx/Marshall's/Sierra(if you're lucky enough to have one by you) $25. Been using them for over 3 years for myself, kid, and dog when we do parks and walks. We have our own steel hand sized bottles filled with ice and water in the morning (kid thermos, yeti, owala) and I refill them from the jug the rest of the day. The spout isn't bad to drink out of at all but the thing is heavy so drinking it while driving isn't an option (same issue with the rambler). I also keep one under my seat at all times full in case of emergency and rotate it out every month or so so the water is fresh. If I put ice in them it and it will last most of the day. Don't know about the lead since all this hype is going around but the bottom is single piece steel with no lead dot. This has been my go to solution for water since I had my baby and I love that I can switch between my yeti/owala depending on the adventure. I haven't had the owala for long so no comment on it being in the sun but my slider lid yeti has gone out to sea with a silicone or metal straw in it an no issues.

  They're great for not adulterating the taste of what you're drinking but not great for travel. If you want a really good keep it for life container get a Yeti. I don't believe they've reduced the quality of them yet, so buy them until they inevitably become a watered down version of themselves like everything else in corporate America.

  I have a Yeti Rambler and it's honestly amazing. My wife got one as a gift a year ago and I insisted I wanted one for my last birthday. The lid has no unreachable parts so it's super easy to clean and the stainless steel internals have held up way better than any previous SS mug we've had. Zero signs of staining or build up. The drinking spout feels good on your mouth, and of course, it keeps coffee hot hot hot.

  Yeti or Stanley is what I’d do. If you want to get into cool physics kids cups have some cool designs Yea basically with like a little rubber flap or cover that kinda burbs air but reseals to hold the water. Kids cups do it where they won’t spill but they can break the seal and get water and air movement when they want it. It just has a rubber flap over the drinking area :)

  I think anything that’s double walled and vacuum sealed will work just fine. Your Yetis and Hydroflasks. I have a Hydroflask and left it in the car once all day. The bottle was hot to the touch but the water was still ice cold, which negates the issue of liquids expanding with heat.

  Used to be a courier with Fedex Express, so I was constantly in and out of my truck in extreme temps year round. Both hot and cold. My daily water source was a yeti rambler gallon jug. Kinda pricey, but it definitely has proved its worth. Its now used for camping/hiking trips instead.

  You can't really fault their business model. They make good quality products, no doubt about that, but they charge them at a price where they can make their money back selling less of them. On the other side is something like rctic where they make basically the same thing, but at lower profit margins and they pull their money back selling more of it. At least Yeti makes good stuff. You can argue about the prices all you want, but they are not living off of nostalgia or the quality they used to have or constantly jacking up Their prices

  Yeti sure will last. Or rtic for basically the same Thing for half the price. That said though, if you drop a double-walled mug enough times or just the right way and break the seal between the two walls, it's useless. If you're careful with it, absolutely the last, but if you drop them the wrong way or enough times, you will be replacing them regardless of what company made them.

  Out of those options zojirushi but brumate or yeti makes better ones that keep drinks hot longer. Switched to brumate tumbler when my takeya lid broke (and it WASN’T leakproof) the lid is actually leakproof, drinks stay hot for hours and they fit in standard cup holders. You can find them at TJMAXX and the like when they discontinue colors. I’ve used the same one daily for the last three years and it looks the same as new (hand wash only).

  Have a dozen Yeti tumblers and cups - never fail, always useful - no clue why I have so many, but I actually do use them all for different things/scenarios. Their sealing chug cap is the best I’ve seen and I use them on both Yeti bottles and RTIC bottles - awesome design. Have a half dozen RTIC tumblers and cups that are honestly just as good as Yeti. Have a Stanley 42 and a Stanley Thermos with lid/cup. Love them both. Had a Takeya 32 that I recently got rid of because it was so beat up. Have a couple Owalas that we like a lot (my wife is big on these). Never saw any appeal of Hydroflask and don’t ask me why because I don’t have an answer. Never have had one and don’t think I ever will. No more insulated drinkware for me 😂.

  My wife has a water bottle addiction. Even though I go through and clear some out on a regular basis we have least 20 on hand at any given time. At the top of my list are Yeti, Owala and the Camelbak Chute. Yeti and the Camelbak are top on the list if you want a simple no straw lid. Owala for flexibility when it comes to the lid. If you want a straw get the Owala. Hydroflask used to my go to and I have a couple bottles that are a decade old but not as impressed with the new stuff.

The Yeti was a replacement for a Hydroflask that dented very quickly, and their water bottles don’t feel heavy at the 18/20 oz sizes.

  I have had my 20oz Hydroflask for 12 years and it is going strong. This one goes everywhere with me. I have had a Yeti 32oz cup for about a decade and it is still fantastic. I keep this one at home and drink out of it in my office. I got a 12 oz Yeti cup that is blue with a handle about 7 years ago that I drink my coffee out of every morning. It has not held up as well. The blue coating has been wearing off.

  Didn't think I'd ever have to submit a warranty claim for a Nalgene

  I bought one years ago. 6 weeks after I bought it, I dropped it from about 3’ and the bottom exploded out of it. Never bought another one after that. I never liked that it wasn’t insulated. I’d put in ice cold water before a hike, by the time I stopped for a drink the water was room temp. Yeti, hydro flask, or rtic equivalent rambler size for me now. My bottles have dents, road rash, chipped paint. I can leave ice cold water In my truck all day in the summer heat, and it’s still cold later in the evening

  I feel one reason for deteriorating quality is the market need to keep prices relatively stable. I’ve been buying the same cable every couple years from Anker. The prices haven’t moved much but the quality has shifted. And that’s fair. 10 bucks in 2010 were very different from 10 bucks now. If they keep quality, the prices won’t be affordable. So I get it. That said: I’ll caveat my answer by saying here’s the brands that do high enough quality for the price they charge. Anker. Nike for socks. Uniqlo for their basic cotton T’s. MacBooks. Yeti.

  Yeti. I have an Owala but it is not the best water bottle. Yeti’s are definitely the best water bottle you will find. They keep ice cold for like 2-3 days, hardly dent (compared to other water bottles like Owalas), come in a wide variety of colors, can come with a sip top if you like the straw, has a few different sizes and has a handle that is sturdier then owalas and so many other water bottles. They are easy to clean and the handle is not wobbly like owalas and other water bottles. Yeti’s are overall the best water bottle you’re gonna find. People say that owalas are the best bc they are trending but honestly they aren’t that good. It was the same with the Stanley’s they leaked so much and the handles weren’t sturdy. My Owala handle broke multiple times and dents when it falls 2 inches off the ground. I give Owala 5/10 just for keeping cold but the handle and water bottle material is terrible. Also you can get a Yeti for the same price as an Owala and its 10 times better I give it a 10/10. Don’t get an Owala get a Yeti if you really want the best water bottle.

  I like my yetis Ik many think they’re overrated and overpriced but imo they’re worth it being they back their products if you mange to destroy it they’ll replace it easily washable well insulated and easily replaceable parts

  Not the only one recommending Yeti water bottles, but they truly are the best I've come across. I've had a 32 oz for 6 years, and a half gallon for 2 or 3 years now. I've influenced my sister, brother in law, and gf to all own Yeti's. The half gallon goes with me everywhere I go, while land scaping it fell off a fence and tumbled 60ish ft down a hillside, maybe lucky as there are no dents other than a small chunk out of the lid from initial impact. Expensive but the brand has never let me down, always stayed cold, and the paint is as durable as you can get. I tell people all the time one of my best purchases is the Yeti Half gallon, I fully plan on owning this water bottle without fault for 10 years minimum.

  I've got several different Yeti drinkware items now, and I love them all. The performance and durability are unmatched, in my opinion. The straw lid has been a game changer for me as well. For budget BIFL, I'd still recommend Nalgene, but if you want something epic that will last forever, Yeti is the way to go.

  Yeti is far superior to hydro flask. I used to be a hydro flask girlie but now I'm all yeti all the time. I destroy any and all other water bottles and I've yet to destroy a yeti. Sure, I've replaced a few kids but they're cheap.

  Yeti! Keeps my water ice cold and can hold up to abuse. I'm never buying another brand again. The yeti with the CHUG cap is the best. My husband has a giant 46oz one and my daily is my 18oz I refill a few times. All my hydro flasks lost their ability to keep stuff cold and is therefore inferior. Sure, I drop em sometimes but I was under the impression they were meant to hold up to this kind of stuff.

  I don’t consider Hydroflask BIFL because of how easily they damage. It’s also well known and easily searched for on Reddit on how easily Hydroflask bottles dent. These dents affect more than cosmetic performance. After my wife dropped her Hydroflask it no longer stands up at all, which is extremely inconvenient. She’s had similar drops on her Yeti Rambler and it has no denting, just cosmetic scratches.

  Klean Kanteen for single wall stainless (so you can boil if you're a survivalist), or Yeti for plastic. My two primary criteria are widemouth and does it fit in the cupholder in my car?

  The lids on my RTIC bottles kept breaking. After several replacement caps, and one ruined bag due to a lid failure, I went with yeti and haven't had any issues. I think it may be a newer design issue as I don't remember my older RTICs having the same problems.

  Yeah I like mine but the top is the biggest flaw in hydro flasks design, they just kinda suck. Yeti definitely improved on it and exceeded my expectations for the lid situation. I’m a fan.

  I've been dailying a 64oz Yeti for around 10 years now. It's got scratches, but no dents. Keeps water cool for over a day (though, I usually drink it all before a full day lapses anyway). Edit: while expensive, Yeti does sell replacement lids.

  In regard to the warranty, I had a stainless steel yeti cup where the coating was pealing off. I had to mail it back to them, but they sent me a brand new one. Their customer service was great.

  Yeti. Specifically I use the 1 gallon jug every day. Work, fishing, hunting it comes with me every where. I’ve dropped it a bunch out of equipment and ran it over. Still keeps going. Probably the only item that I have consistently used and not replaced in the 3 years I’ve had it.

  This is true, but I also look at warranty as well and consider that factored into the price. I’ve only ever bought two yetis for myself, and I’ve had both fully replaced through warranty at no additional cost. One of them I left on the top of my car twice and drove off before realizing it, and I was able to warranty it for a new one. It also had some other issues like a leaking lid. I’d say the same for Darn tough socks. I’ve owned a few pair, the really thin ones that I was overly rough with, that formed a tear. In both cases, I was able to send them back for a brand new pair with no issues. I initially thought there’s no way I’m paying that much for a pair of socks, but I got a pair of a gift and they are well worth it when you factor in the warranty.

  Is it? I was in your camp previously but after owning a few of their drinkware pieces they are generally the ones that maintain their vacuum seal for insulation, color doesn’t flake off, and has a warranty (I haven’t tried to use it so not sure how responsive they are). I have tried various less expensive alternatives.  Store brands (Walmart and Academy), Orca, Grizzly, Contico, and Rtic and most loose their ability to keep liquids at temperature, top begins to leak (Contico) or paint flakes off.  While expensive. I have Yetis that are over 5 years old that still keep coffee hot and water cold for hours. Paint still on them.  They are also dishwasher safe.  I still can’t bring myself to buy a cooler from them. I’m never that far from a store and ice is cheap.

  Yeti Rambler / Water Bottle. Insulation works great and it's very durable. I've got Yeti Tumblers that are 10+ years old at this point that perform like they're brand new. Drops result in scratches, but not dents. People are going to say Hydroflask buy IMO they are not durable enough to call BIFL. They dent incredibly easy, if you dent the bottom they tend to wobble and my wife's won't even stand up straight anymore after a drop where it landed on the bottom.

  I thought YETI Tumblers were BIFL, but what's happening here? The lid keeps sliding/pushing itself up when holding ice + water, rendering it useless. Super frustrating!

  No... the issue was that I washed the parts in the dishwasher. YETI was nice enough to send me a new lid. I hand wash only now, and it works flawlessly. The people in this thread telling me I was using it wrong were sooooo fuckin annoying.

  I have owalla, hydroflask, Stanley as well as a few lesser brands. All of them keep water cold and tea hot. None of them are BIFL technically as the fittings and enamel will eventually break down, but definitely decades of use. If you want sleek, yeti is the best design with the non enameled stainless base. The others need a silicon boot to protect the enamel otherwise they chip and dent and don't stand straight after.

  I have yeti ramblers that have worked well for years. They keep cold things cold and hot things hot really well. But they are not leak proof and the lids are kind of a pain to clean. I recently got an owala water bottle which I like travelling / running errands with more. The owala has a built in straw/chug lid that has a leak proof cover. After I had a random kid sneeze on my yeti I much prefer to have a cover when I'm out and about. I have had my owala floating around in my bag all day with no leaks. The downside is that it doesn't fit in a standard car cupholder.

  Yeti! We have a few tumblers and water bottles in different sizes. I put hot water in one of the big water bottles on a Friday afternoon, go winter camping, and have steaming hot chocolate and coffee for breakfast Saturday morning. Same water bottle will keep ice frozen in your cocktail at the beach all day long. There are different tops for different uses. The screw tops on the water bottles are very secure. The magnetic slider tops for the tumblers are great. He might like the hot shot cap, which is closest to the function you get from a thermos but eliminates the loose cap. It lets you use the big water bottles like a travel mug.

  I have an 18 oz Yeti with chug cap. They are expensive but quite a solid product. The 18 oz is the only size that will fit a cup holder, but many of their bottles will use the same lid.

  My fiance's travel mug needed to be chucked and I wanted to replace it for him. But, he had too many must-haves that I gave up. It had to have a permanent handle, fit in his car cup holder, a disposable coffee cup shaped opening, and a lid release that turns clockwise bc he holds the handle in his right hand and opens the top with his left. 🙄 My point is that people have preferences. Find out how he likes to handle and drink from his thermos, and his ideal capacity. I know he won't be as picky as my Mr. Good Enough. My 17yo has been using a stainless steel vacuum insulated Yeti with chug cap for 4 years. He fills it w ice, adds water and 30 hours later still has ice cubes. If he takes hot drinks, they're undrinkably hot 6 hours later. Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

  Pour over coffee (Hairo, Yeti, Ikea, OXO) with a gooseneck tea kettle French Press depending on the make (Frieling is very BIFL- made for cafe use) Moka Pot is very BIFL as well. Lots of options out there that are not a percolator. If you want a more traditional coffee maker there is Moccamaster.

  I have a yeti I got as a gift, and it's been amazing! You can unscrew the top and have it be a wide mouth I can fit my hands in, plus the top will unscrew further to be more like a bottle. To be fair, I can also fit my hands/wrists into a Pringles can, so do with that information what you will...

  It's a buy it for life subreddit so it's all about buying quality stuff that will last as long as possible. Yeti is top in my book. I don't know much about thermos personally. Contigo is also a pretty affordable brand they I have found to be very good quality so maybe have a look there.

  I have to agree with the other poster. I have a couple of yeti's and they are phenomenal. Very well made and durable. My 26oz is with me everyday for about 5 years now. I wasted money on other brands before and something always broke, like rubber seals and stuff.

  Get a Yeti with the chug cap and buy a hotshot cap for use either hot drinks. It will be a bit better built having thicker walls so more resistance to dents compared to Thermos.
