Why are we allowing posts that are not in the spirit of BIFL?
To add my two cents in kind of agreement: things like socks are going to degrade just by the nature of what they are. Some will last longer than others but still - you're grandchildren will not be wearing them. Things like cast iron will last generations if cared for. But that's more the nature of the material and lesser so the quality in which it is made. I used to think the same about certain brands of hand tools. Simple materials, quality production, and making right when they slip up. But private equity has put their fingers in that pie. Brands like snap-on and craftsman hold less trust than harbor freight to me. Same warranty between the three of them, but snap-on doesn't have a store front I can go to; so Id have to wait a week to see the truck. Craftsman dealers will fight me tooth and nail to not honor their warranty. Harbor freight - no questions asked. Certainly not bifl quality though. The only things I consider bifl quality anymore are cast iron cookware (getting skeptical with le creuset however), and YKK zippers.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore?
North Face comes to mind. Like so many others it's pivoted to being fashion over function, and the quality is shockingly bad for some things. UnderArmour's cold and hot gear used to last me years but the last two pieces I bought fell apart at the seams after fairly light use. Shoes are arguably never BIFL, but Dr. Martens are much shoddier now. Oh, and anyone who moves away from YKK zips.

YKK zippers, it is all I will buy. I also look for ready made clothing with a YKK zipper. I recently paid $15 more for a tie-dye jacket because it had a YKK zipper on it.

Ah yeah they updated the #5 zipper - the one you are looking for is called the 5V, the new one with the 3 points up top is the 5VS. They make a universal version that should fit: https://www.amazon.com/ZipperStop-Distributor-Universal-Molded-Slider/dp/B00CS7GG92
