What is the best application you have purchased with a one-time payment?
YNAB used to be a one time fee application. It switched to a monthly fee about 7 or 8 years ago. You had the option of continuing to just use the old version without paying any additional fees, so I never upgraded. I think you might be able to buy an old YNAB version 4 key off someone second hand, but the company doesn't sell them anymore.

What is the best application you have purchased with a one-time payment?
I only use the desktop version and have been using it for 7+ years. I don't recall the initial setup but it wasn't too complicated. You do need Dropbox in order to run the old desktop version. I honestly don't know if you can still download YNAB 4 anymore, and you'd probably need an activation key from back in the day. I have no experience with the mobile app or subscription model of YNAB. I remember one of the hardest aspects was getting to the point of living on "last month's income." In other words, September's outflows are based on August's inflows. But once I got to that point, everything started to click. And then, once I was in a groove of budgeting that way, I was able to keep my lifestyle steady when raises were given at work. Instead of spending more with each raise, I was able to put those raises straight towards boosting my 401k contributions. Within a few years, I hit my goal of 20% going towards retirement. I wouldn't say I was ever "bad" with money, but YNAB turbo charged everything and I felt like I was in total control even when an unexpected expense popped up. I wish this stuff was taught in school because I think so many people could benefit from it.

What is the best application you have purchased with a one-time payment?
YNAB version 4. Never upgraded to the monthly payment model. I have been using it for over 10 years.
