Should I buy a basic slow cooker or those 11-in-1 type pressure cooker/slow cooker/air fryer etc.
If you eat rice, I would get a high quality rice cooker that can be used as a slow cooker. My YumAsia is the best kitchen purchase I have made in a long time

This is why I've always encouraged people to buy Japan made rice cooker - so satisfying to watch
Yumasia Tsuki. Way cheaper, but has all the bells and whistles including fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic (as funny as it sounds) is the main reason for why you want a rice cooker over an instant pot.

> Also with rice cookers, the inner pot is the weak point if it's nonstick. You have to really baby it and make sure you never leave it in the sink because others in your house will scratch it up. Wash it immediately or just keep the empty pot in the cooker. Yumasia rice cookers come with an enameled clay pot. It is the best pot in my opinion, cause it can't be any more dangerous than a porcelain dish plate... Still very non stick.

Yumasia is similar or better for less. They're made in china. The design is in my opinion better. Hard to speak on longevity but there aren't many mechanical parts to the rice cooker anyway. What makes mine better is that it uses an enameled clay pot inside instead of teflon coated (or bare) stainless steel. The enamel is very non-stick but it's inert like a rock or glass - no questionable health dangers even if it flakes in the food.

Zojirushi appreciation post
For me, it's not so much of a difference for plain rice, but more so for more complex one-pot-cooking. Regular rice cookers are a bit more tricky with it, they need the right amount of water... The more advanced ones with fuzzy logic make it very mindless to make tasty food. I like my Yumasia. It is cheaper than Zojirushi and comes with a ceramic enameled bowl instead of the teflon in Zojirushi. It's very effective.

Zojirushi v.s. Tiger Made in Japan rice cookers
Without getting into Zoji vs Tiger: When I was going to buy a rice cooker (I bought a YumAsia Bamboo in the end, [reviewed here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/comments/td95e3/my_review_on_the_yum_asia_bamboo_ih_and_why_i/)), I quite researched on Zoji made in USA vs made in China. My conclusion was that there was **no evidence** on made in China models being less BIFL than the ones made in Japan. I found lots of comments stating they had a made in Japan "because it was better" but with zero context or explanation why (besides different functions or capabilities). I found a lot of positive comments of people who had a made in China and not a single negative one. So basically a Zojirushi is a Zojirushi, no matter where it was manufactured. I know you didn't bring up the made in China conversation, but it still feels like they're looking at an extra price only for the made in Jap sticker as there's these comments everywhere... So consider the Chinese models. As well give my Bamboo's review a read as I'm still as happy with it today as I was back then.
