Honestly, I think the MacBook Air is cost competitive. Depends on what you mean by light gaming. It’ll probably run something like league or Minecraft fine

What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
I can share my own experience. I had a 2007 hp and it lasted until 2012 because the hardware started falling apart. During its lifetime, I replaced battery twice. The plastic started wearing down. Buttons broke and hinges were breaking. My 2013 MacBook Air still work to this day. Replaced battery once.
