What’s a purchase that’s not fun, not flashy but now you swear by it?
>I'm with you on everything except drop coffee. I can't deal with drip coffee. I need my coffee blazing hot and drip won't do it for me. I was the same way, until I got a Bunn [VP-17](https://www.webstaurantstore.com/bunn-13300-0001-vp17-1-ss-stainless-steel-pourover-coffee-brewer-with-1-lower-warmer-120v/234133000001.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gbraid=0AAAAAD_Dx-s0MMBWGjEh5Sssh_JV661wc&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgpzIBhCOARIsABZm7vHp_2kJbljm0W6sVviSZk3_ApvhukRUwESX2BmqzjfZ8MVFhyfLpaEaApSCEALw_wcB) I found used on eBay for under a Benjamin. 12$ in parts, and it was up and running. 12 years later, at 1 to 2 pots a *day*, and it has never once let me down. It has its own internal hot water tank, like a miniature home water heater, and the thermostat can be adjusted. I get 197° coffee every single time without fail. 😍

Looking for a coffee machine that lasts forever
Sounds like you want a [Bunn VP-17](https://www.webstaurantstore.com/bunn-13300-0001-vp17-1-ss-stainless-steel-pourover-coffee-brewer-with-1-lower-warmer-120v/234133000001.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gbraid=0AAAAAD_Dx-tqs1kdENcAEHyLBwfYvSk7o&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0Y3HBhCxARIsAN7931WqoJmqlLobPzhRmJsznGRoo9kTSK7IM6lHREyoR3SM4XIx55hjn4EaAmY_EALw_wcB). Put coffee in basket. Pour water in machine. In less time than it takes to finish pouring the water, hot coffee is already pouring out. It has *one* button, and that's to turn the hot plate on and off. It will only ever make drip coffee. But I've used mine every day for almost a decade, with zero issues. And I bought mine used. Parts are available directly from [Bunn](https://commercial.bunn.com/parts). There's also [Parts town](https://www.partstown.com/bunn/vp17/parts#id=mdptabmanuals), which has parts, diagrams, and even manuals. It won't do fancy. It will do "here is your plain black coffee". And it will do it every single time.

Best device to make a pot of coffee?
The Bunn VP-17-1SS is simple to operate and an absolute tank. All of its components that touch hot water are stainless steel, so you don't have to worry about microplastics or plastic leaching from the machine. I went from a $100 Cuisinart machine to the VP-17 for approximately $600 all-in (with the stainless steel basket and carafe ordered separately) and my drip coffee has never tasted better. The machine is constantly heating too, so the coffee is made almost immediately after you pour in fresh water; just make sure to keep the recommended reserve amount of water so that it doesn't boil dry (though it may have a mechanism to prevent that, I am not sure) and/or unplug it if you won't be using it for more than a couple of days. All in all, I am completely satisfied with mine. It's a commercial grade machine and it performs like one.
