What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
1. Apple MacBook Pro 2. Lenovo ThinkPad 3. Asus Vivobook. Ranked in order from best (imo) to worst, though that doesn’t mean (in any sense) that the Vivobook is bad. They’re all awesome. Buy any one of them and you’ll be golden.

What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
In 2020 I did a ton of research and landed on a Lenovo Thnnkpad. Flawless and I use it everyday, carry it around in a bag and open it up countless times. Never had an issue.

What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
The only “brand” for long term use these days is Apple. If you don’t want macOS then you need to start looking at models. Every brand will come out with its own problem models each cycle. Generally you want to look for the business class models, dell latitude(whatever it’s called now), thinkpad t or x series, hp elitebook/probook. Generally these models will have longer product cycles and service manuals. I would not buy a laptop that doesn’t have a service manual. There is framework which has some amazing repairability and good product design but is a newer product with some teething issues, higher pricing and more complex support processes. Framework does offer the option to keep your chassis and upgrade your motherboard.

What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
Don't just get any Lenovo, instead get Thinkpad. If price is concerned, consider refurbished or even recycled ie get from companies who recycle tech for other organizations like greencitizens based out in Bay area.. tech companies forces refresh every 2-4 years but those ThinkPads are still good for another 5-10 years

What is the best laptop brand for long term use?
Modern Apple laptops are unrepairable and unupgradeable. TLDR: I'd say buy a Lenovo Thinkpad or Legion(for more gaming power) with replaceable RAM and SSD. The [new Dell laptops](https://youtu.be/fiG2-1GiAso) also look good, though it's hard to predict reliability for a new redesign. Or if you really want to BIFL, buy a Framework 16. Now, if you'd like details on why modern MacBooks are not BIFL, keep reading. I've cited plenty of sources, so you don't need to take my word for it: If you buy a Lenovo and the SSD, RAM, battery, or WiFi card dies, you can easily swap in a replacement. If you run out of storage space, need more RAM, or want faster Wi-Fi, just upgrade it yourself with a screwdriver. Even beyond those simple swaps many of the parts in Lenovo laptops are readily available. For example, if you break the screen Lenovo sells replacements and publishes straightforward repair procedures that are easy to follow. If you buy one of Dell's latest laptops, you can replace all of the typical parts plus even [the ports on the sides](https://youtu.be/fiG2-1GiAso) can be swapped out with a screwdriver. Microsoft sells a large variety of replacement parts for their Surface laptops and tablets both on their own website and though ifixit. Plus, when you open up the device, they have QR codes printed right on the internal components themselves that will take you to the relevant replacement guide for that part. On a MacBook if you damage a port, trash it and buy a new laptop. If the SSD dies, trash it and buy a new laptop. Storage space full? You mean you didn't pay $2200 extra on top of the $3499 base price to get 8TB storage? Trash it and spend between $5699 to $7349 to get a MacBook Pro with 8TB installed. And kick yourself for wasting over $10k on Apple laptops. If you had bought a $500 PC laptop you could have swapped in an 8TB SSD you bought on Newegg for $600, no laptop replacement required. Use that extra $9000 you saved to take your wife out for a nice dinner. Or buy a new PC laptop every year for a decade. Need more RAM, or Memtest starts indicating RAM corruption? You can get more RAM in a new MacBook(for up to a $1200 upcharge). Want to use WiFi 8 a few years from now? New MacBook. Drop it and the screen cracks? The shiny new MacBooks at the Apple store have fully functional screens. [Allow the OS updater to install the latest MacOS update on your 6 year MacBook?](https://www.macrumors.com/2021/11/01/macos-monterey-bricking-older-macs/) Now it's an out-of-warranty fancy aluminum brick. [One spec of dust snuck under your MacBook's super-thin butterfly keyboard and the spacebar stopped working?](https://theoutline.com/post/2402/the-new-macbook-keyboard-is-ruining-my-life?zd=2&zi=yhggo5vn) Replace the busted key; no wait, Apple designed it to make that impossible. You can either use the onscreen keyboard from now on🤣, carry around an external keyboard everywhere you go, pay Apple $700 to replace the keyboard, or buy a new laptop. Want to connect more than 1 external screen? Should've bought the M3 Max; for some reason these premium, expensive ["Pro"](https://youtu.be/BZuvC66rVks) laptops can't output to 3 screens like cheap PC laptops from 10+ years ago can. Well, I suppose we do know the reason; Apple artificially limited their laptop CPUs so they could upsell you to an M3 Max without the arbitrary limitation and [add to their $100 billion+ pile of cash](https://youtu.be/SqA8h0IBRmY). Time to do your part and give them thousands of dollars to add to that pile, in exchange for a new MacBook Pro that is allowed to run more than one screen. https://youtu.be/LiAzrco8wsk https://youtu.be/gdaqPhmZvPE https://youtu.be/7CEQ-ItjtN8 https://youtu.be/LiAzrco8wsk https://youtu.be/SqA8h0IBRmY And if you think the components in a MacBook are higher quality and don't fail, well, check out what the owner of the most famous MacBook repair business in America has to say: https://youtu.be/0qbrLiGY4Cg https://youtu.be/RYG4VMqatEY https://youtu.be/7cNg_ifibCQ https://youtu.be/4KuVvb9DTaU For years Apple forced their part suppliers to never sell the parts used in their laptops to anyone but Apple(so no replacement parts for sale). And Apple is literally forcing used laptop recyclers/resellers to grind the parts of used MacBooks into toxic e-waste dust so they can't be used to fix other people's failing MacBooks. https://www.inverse.com/input/culture/apples-repair-policies-are-utterly-shameful-and-shouldnt-be-allowed-e-waste-recycling-macbooks-t2 https://www.vice.com/en/article/apple-macbook-activation-lock-right-to-repair/ https://www.vice.com/en/article/apple-recycling-iphones-macbooks/ "[Apple] undermines attempts to prolong the lifespan of its products." When I bought my Sager NP8290 laptop back 12 years ago in 2013, it came with 8GB DDR3, a 750GB HDD with spinning platters, Wi-Fi 802.11g and Bluetooth 3.0. Since then I've upgraded the RAM to 32GB, added a big SSD, and connected a few external monitors. I still have 3 empty internal SSD bays if I want to add even more storage, and I could swap out the Wi-Fi card for one that supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5. This laptop cost less than the cheapest MacBook Pro available that year. And no amount of money could have bought a 2013 MacBook Pro with the amount of RAM, storage, or GPU this laptop now contains. This Sager still runs like a champ to this day. If I had bought a MacBook, I would have had to replace it years ago. In fact, one of my close friends bought a new MacBook Pro around 2015. Three years later the trackpad started jerking the mouse pointer around the screen, even when you weren't touching it. On Windows/Linux you might be able to [replace](https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd103999-removal-and-installation-step-for-trackpad-cable-and-trackpad-thinkpad-t460s) the [trackpad](https://www.ifixit.com/products/dell-xps-15-9510-touchpad), or just disable it in Device Manager and use a mouse. Not on a MacBook. After Googling for weeks and trying every potential fix or workaround we could find, she threw it out and bought a Windows laptop. I'd say buy a Lenovo Thinkpad or Legion(for more gaming power) with replaceable RAM and SSD. The [new Dell laptops](https://youtu.be/fiG2-1GiAso) also look good, though it's hard to predict reliability for a new redesign. Or if you really want to BIFL, buy a Framework 16. Here's an ifixit listing of the most repairable laptops, for reference: https://www.ifixit.com/repairability/laptop-repairability-scores
