Men’s pouch underwear that survives gym + running + hiking?
Patagonia Capalene (sp?) Pretty bomb proof; I've washed 'em in a sink, let 'em dry while showering, and steady on - for months.

How do synthetic base layers compare to merino wool base layers?
I wear both merino and synthetic base layers; IMO you're not missing out on much. They're both great, and each is better at some things than the other. Merino is great for odor resistance. There are anti-stank treatments for synthetics that do a decent job, but I'll still choose wool if I need to wear the same shirt for a week without washing it and don't want to smell like a goat. On the other hand, I'll always choose synthetic if I'm going to be sweating a lot. Merino gets wet and stays wet. It still keeps you warm, but I hate that feeling. Synthetics wick moisture much better and dry much faster. Warmth depends more on the thickness of the base layer than what it's made from. Any given thickness of wool will probably be marginally warmer than the same thickness of synthetic material, but you can just wear a slightly thicker base layer to overcome that issue. For me merino's greatest weakness and poly's greatest strength is durability. Merino wears out FAST - it's the opposite of BIFL. On the other hand, I have some Patagonia Capilene long johns that are old enough to vote.

Looking for a full outdoor winter clothes system.
Base layer at least should be wool or synthetic, cotton gets wet with sweat and then gets cold. Patagonia Capilene base layers have a really good reputation and the company is about as BIFL oriented as any out there, with programs for return and repair.

Best high quality performance tee?
Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily. I love these t-shirts and wear them almost every day for both my normal desk job and travel, hiking, etc. Pricey but still look like new after two years of use.

Best high quality performance tee?
I’m a fan of the Patagonia capilene t shirts as far as ‘performance tee’s go. They hold up well to many washes and Patagonia has a great repair service/ warranty. Roark also makes some great t-shirts.
