Cheapest phone that isn't so old I can't download apps? iPhone 7 is causing me problems.
Pixel usually has some cheaper models that have pretty decent longevity. It looks like you can still buy the 8a (new) on amazon for <$300.

I don’t know why this is getting down voted. It’s a valid question. Here’s the answer. The type of apps you mentioned are likely 2FA apps or things otherwise concerned about security. They will absolutely have a moving floor that will be no lower than the oldest version of the operating system that is getting security patches. It may be higher than that for security features or other reasons. The iPhone 12 and 2nd gen se are likely the next to go to the vintage list (partially supported), some 11s have already been posted to the vintage list. A refurb 12 IA’s likely the least cost for iOS that may buy you 2-3 years. May. I know for it enterprise 2FA product, Android is at a floor of 14. Pixel 8 is supposed to get seven years of updates, so should be good for a bit.

Don't get a pixel 6, they are losing their software updates this year. I am moving up to a 10 because I got it on sale for Black Friday. But check out the "a" versions instead, The pixel 9A is almost all of the features of the current gen, but for a much cheaper price

What is the equivalent of "Apple removed 3.5mm jack" of your favorite products ?
I think the pixel 9/10 are finally good scanners as they are sonic so the screen doesn't need to turn on to scan anymore. Once pixels switched to under screen scanners they have been worst in the industry many pixel generations. The old tech has to turn on the screen where the finger goes to scan. It is sometimes blindingly bright and often just doesn't work. So you upgraded at the right time.

Android phones that can last a long time?
Pixel 2 is my favorite phone that I have ever owned. I still have it and it still works. If it weren't it no longer receiving security updates I would still use it.

Android phones that can last a long time?
Further to this I would say my pixel 7a is actually better. There was a software bug that caused the battery to drain insanely fast. As in 100-0 in 4 hours when I first got it the week of release. Now depending on the use I can get a full day out of it. I did very recently have the rear glass over the camera break. But I was able to peel that out and replace with a new one for like £8 of Amazon.

Android phones that can last a long time?
The pixel 2 was a good line, I'm still using mine since launch. Only downside is 64gb is getting hard to use now days. I expect at minimum five years out of a phone, 7 or 8 is better due to things like cellular band changes which can render it obsolete depending on country. Eg GSM, 2g and 3g are all disabled in my country as they move the bands around to make room for newer services. I would've loved a pixel 9, except to me it has the ugliest X-Men cyclops camera bump Ive ever seen thats so sharp it cuts me just looking at it and unfortunately the pixel 10 is the same. I may just ignore it and buy a 10 in the next year as my phone lives in a case anyway. But my 2 still runs fantastically

Android phones that can last a long time?
I'm still on my pixel 7 and it's perfect, still get 2 days out of a battery charger and no glitches. I've had nothing but great experiences with the pixel line except for the 3. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Samsung to the point a bunch of us started calling them Samsuck. Samsung is also awful to deal with for warranty concerns for other stuff. But I've got mostly Samsung household appliances that have been fine for years. Point is, you can get unlucky with all brands.

My Galaxy S10 and S22 still work. They aren't getting anymore updates but I think Samsung phones are great. I have the Pixel 9 now and it's great too. Maybe yours was just a lemon.

Android phones that can last a long time?
My pixel 2 lasted 7 years. Battery finally started to go. Got talked into a Samsung a16. It sucks. Main problem is that it doesn't keep time. It loses time. Was told it can't, but i can't use it for an alarm clock because I ended up late for work twice.

Cell phones - what's the closest brand to a BIFL?
Pixel now offers 7years of oftware support. That's as good as it's gonna get on the android side (as long as you dont switch to the open source version of android). I'd wait for pixel 10, as the current tensor cpu is not really a Powerhouse (however i really love my pixel9)

I had a Pixel 4a for years and planned to keep it for many more, but got a trade in deal I couldn't refuse when switching carriers. I've got a Pixel 8 Pro now and confidently believe it will last many years as well.
